Senate rejects bipartisan push
for new US war authorization

Associated Press, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 9/13/2017 8:18:57 PM

The Senate on Wednesday rejected a bipartisan push for a new war authorization against the Islamic State and other terrorist groups, electing to let the White House rely on a 16-year-old law passed after the Sept. 11 attacks as the legal basis to send U.S. troops into combat. Senators voted 61-36 scuttle an amendment to the annual defense policy bill by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., that would have allowed war authorizations, created in the wake of al-Qaida´s 9/11 strikes, to lapse after six months. Paul, a leader of the GOP's noninterventionist wing, said Congress would use the time to debate an updated war authority for operations in Iraq,

Comments:
The fact that this was led by Rand Paul should make the GOP wonder, "How can we remove this meddlesome "RINO"? (He needs to be cut from our herd ASAP.) What a true disgrace he continues to be. We now have a "noninterventionist wing"? Bueller?

Sorry Rand, but not in your dreams will this happen. We know you are still sore about the primaries, so hang with Hillary and you two can have a pity party.

1. The Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land, explicitly says only Congress may declare war.

2. Nowhere in the Constitution is Congress allowed to cede its authority to another branch of government.

3. Nowhere in the Constitution is the Executive branch allowed to accept authority offered to it by another branch of government.

Any war not specifically and officially declared by Congress is in violation of the Constitution and is therefore illegal.

Hear, Hear!, #3. No UN interventions. No police actions, no extended military engagements, no Resolution. If Congress doesn´t have the stomach to declare war than troops should not be sent into the grind. They are a bunch of gutless wonders. If it is a matter of national security then declare war. Then the Brass runs the show, otherwise it´s these spineless crooks that runs it. And we know how that turns out. Korea, VN, ME.

The White House says it will not negotiate with the Democrats on immigration until the end of the federal government shutdown. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says in a statement that, “We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands.” She adds, “When Democrats start paying our armed forces and first responders we will reopen negotiations on immigration reform.” The government shut down at midnight after Congress failed to pass a spending deal. The Russian spy ship first spotted near American waters last year is making its way back in the direction of the U.S., Fox News confirmed on Thursday. The Victor Leonov is still in the Caribbean, according to officials, but heading north off the coast of Florida, home to a U.S. Navy base located in North Florida, east of Jacksonville. The ship could be off the Florida coast by Friday if the ship maintains present course and speed, according to officials. There is also a ballistic missile submarine base located in southern Georgia known as Kings Bay, which is another likely destination for the spy ship to loiter and watch U.S. “boomers” —

Interest in a classified House Intelligence Committee memo, which reportedly outlines how the anti-Trump dossier was used by the FBI to justify surveillance against Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, has caused an online frenzy. Late Thursday, WikiLeaks jumped into the proceedings, offering a reward of up to $1 million to anyone who could send them a copy. Meanwhile, reports emerged that the Twitter hashtag calling for the memo’s public release — #ReleaseTheMemo — was receiving a major online push by Russian-linked Twitter accounts. Basketball Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman can’t seem to rid himself of the “bad boy” image. Rodman was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Saturday in Newport Beach, California, after police say he was “driving like a maniac and blaring music,” TMZ reports. The bigger problem for the former Chicago Bulls star, though, is that he is on probation for a July of 2016 hit-and-run incident in which he was driving the wrong way. This latest arrest could revoke Rodman’s three-year probation and force him to serve prison time, TMZ reports. Rodman was reportedly cooperative with police.

The Senate won’t vote on an immigration deal unless it has President Trump’s support, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday, effectively dooming the Gang of Six bill even before a bipartisan group of lawmakers officially introduced it. Mr. McConnell said they are waiting to see exactly what Mr. Trump will sign, but the president has said the bill written by Sens. Lindsey Graham and Richard Durbin was rejected by the White House last week, so it’s not the basis for negotiations. “I’m looking for something that President Trump supports and he has not indicated what measure he is willing to sign,” Mr. McConnell told
