Gardner says those devices can be used as weapons of mass disruption. “The federal government orders billions of dollars worth of Internet of Things devices each and every year,” says Gardner. “These are things that can be hacked into. Nope, not mine. I worked with computers for 45 years; I certainly don´t need them invading my home-front, thank you very much!

#2. Especially stoves, refrigerators, garage doors, gates, pumps, air conditioners. In fact, any device that moves things or uses significant power.

Picture your cat being crushed by an automatic gate that closed/opened while you were away.

Not to mention the propensity of refrigerators to blow up and catch entire buildings on fire. Perhaps that only happens to British fridges.

Bought a water heater this summer. I didn´t know there was one with WiFi.

For What?

Otherwise I think this is colossally stupid to want the Feds to regulate your appliances even more than they do now: Dish washers, fridges, clothes washers, toilets...electric tooth brushes

Did you know Vacuum cleaners will be regulated to limit their power. Save the earth, ya´ know.

These are part of what is called the "Internet of Things (IoT)". I refer to it as "the Internet of NOT Your Things" because in order for all of these "smart" things to work, they have to e connected to somewhere that you don´t control. Not only do they represent a huge personal privacy and internet security risk, there is also another problem for the consumer. You see, despite the fact you believe that you "own" these things, you really don´t. They belong to those who control the software. Ask those folks who "bought" those fancy "Nest smart thermostats" about what happened when an IT tech made a mistake that resulting in them all shutting down in the middle of winter or what happened after Nest was bought out by Google and Google shut down the Nest servers, and their thermostats.

A pair of new polls on Monday showed Roy Moore beating incumbent Luther Strange by double digits in Tuesdays’s GOP senate runoff in Alabama — despite President Trump’s endorsement of the man he calls “Big Luther.” The first survey, conducted by the Trafalgar Group during the two days after Trump’s raucous rally for Strange on Friday — showed the arch-conservative leading by 16 points, 56 to 40. The second, commissioned by Cygnal, an Alabama-based research firm, was also conducted after Trump’s visit to Huntsville, showed Moore leading 52 to 41.
