Sen. John McCain wants to revive his preferred method of immigration reform when he returns to Congress after being treated for brain cancer. Before leaving Washington for more treatment, McCain, R-Ariz., told The Arizona Republic that he spoke with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., about tackling immigration reform. (Snip) "Immigration reform is one of the issues I´d like to see resolved," McCain told the Arizona Republic in an interview published Thursday. "I´ve got to talk to him (Schumer) about when would be the best time. I think there are all kinds of deals to be made out there. I really
Comments: Oh joy. That traitor will regroup that evil gang of eight to further attack Trump. I think he is delusional if he thinks he is going to maintain a normal life after his recent diagnosis. He should resign and spend time with his family. After my brother-in-law had surgery for a glioblastoma things went downhill quickly. McCain will NOT be able to function normally both mentally and physically. You have to wonder how much he will withhold from the public (that is not obvious) just so he can stay in power.
McCain just can´t seem to get out of the way of the country´s ability to survive without being over run. I know, I know he is a veteran and a hero and suffered for the country, but does not make it his to destroy.
If your favorite Uncle Eddie (the nicest guy in the world) were to become psychotic and meniacle, he would have to be sidelined before he could hurt someone, yes? Well I think this is the case here.
Pretty obvious McCain has become delusional. Perhaps he has always been , or perhaps it is due to his current malady. Whatever the cause he has totally missed the reality that the whole impetus of the illegal immigration debate has taken a 180 degree turn. Now, the majority of Americans want a wall, those already here deported, and even a reduction in the "entitled" who come to this nation legally. Resign John and etry to enjoy what little time you have left and leave the illegal immigration issue for the grownups to handle.
Trump is more about competence and loyalty than strict ideology. If you are good enough the competence will/should get you to the truth, and that should overcome blind adherence. Be principled(which I think competence covers), and we´ll support you to the end.
#3, I don´t like McCain and hope he is soon gone. But, he did not cause the fire on the Forrestal. A plane on the opposite side of the flight deck did and the rocket hit the plane next to McCain´s. There are plenty of videos and reports that show the actual rocket firing.
I lost a friend years ago to brain cancer. He was fine, we went shooting and flying several times while he was being treated. He was a good pilot and shot well right up until a few weeks before he died.
Not wishing ill on McCain, but this is not likely something that he will get over.
Al Franken appears to be that rarest of senators — one who doesn’t see himself as president. Instead Mr. Franken, a comic-turned-politician, is angling to be a voice of the progressive movement and to ascend the halls of power on the other end of Pennsylvania Ave. at the Capitol. “He isn’t running for president, but he is running to be one of the dominant progressive voices in D.C. — vying with [Sens. Elizabeth] Warren and Bernie [Sanders],” said Lawrence R. Jacobs, head of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance in the Hubert H. Humphrey School and the
NEW YORK — America´s reality TV president has made America face its reality, on TV. Now, civil rights leaders across the country worry what will come from Donald Trump´s equivocation on racism and hatred—and the country’s struggle in the week and a half since Charlottesville to deal with a problem much bigger than a few hundred wannabe Nazis with Tiki torches. (Snip) “We’re in a poisonous atmosphere that is being increased by the president of the United States. It’s like turning on the gas in a room,” Rev. Al Sharpton told me, speaking for the latest episode of POLITICO’s Off Message
"The lesson from Charlottesville is not how dangerous the neo-Nazis are. It is the unmasking of the Republican party leadership," former Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold wrote in a column published Saturday. "In the wake of last weekend´s horror and tragedy, let us finally, finally rip off the veneer that Trump´s affinity for white supremacy is distinct from the Republican agenda of voter suppression, renewed mass incarceration and the expulsion of immigrants." "There is a direct link between Trump´s comments this week and those policies," Feingold continued, "So, where is the outrage about the latter? Where are the Republican leaders
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., defended her decision to keep IT staffer Imran Awan on government payroll after she discovered he was under investigation for bank fraud. Awan and his wife, Hina Alvi, were indicted last week by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia with a total of four charges. "He´s not my staffer. He no longer works for me. And when he was arrested, I terminated him," Wasserman Schultz said during a briefing Tuesday according to the Sun-Sentinel. "I kept him on the payroll during the time that he was not arrested and not charged with anything.
According to a report from college football blog Outkick the Coverage, ESPN pulled college football announcer Robert Lee game between William and Mary and the University of Virginia because they were concerned students and viewers might be offended by his name. Lee, who is Asian-American, and who is likely not named after the Confederate general, Robert E. Lee, is one of ESPNU´s biggest names, and, for the record, did not fight in the American Civil War, because he wasn´t alive in 1861 (though he is nicknamed, "the General"). The story sounds almost too ridiculous to be true. But Outkick the
One of Missouri´s biggest newspapers is calling for Democratic State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal to resign after her controversial Facebook post hoping President Donald Trump will be assassinated. The editorial board of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote Monday that "no clear-thinking public figure" would express hopes for an assassination of the president, no matter how angry she was over his response to the violence in Charlottesville, Va. The Missouri Democratic Party, Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, Democratic Rep. William Lacy Clay, Republican Gov. Eric Greitens, and Republican Lt. Gov. Mike Parson have all called for her resignation, the board noted: Rarely has
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is more supportive of pursuing a single-payer health care system than she’s willing to publicly admit, deputy Democratic National Committee chair and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison said in a video obtained by The Daily Caller. “I believe in — I’m signed onto H.R. 676 which is a single-payer health care act. They call it Medicare for all. Yeah, universal health care. Real single-payer health care. I’m on that. But let me tell you this,” Ellison said at a local party meeting in Minnesota last Wednesday, partial video of which was obtained by TheDC. Ellison asked
It was announced today that a reporter who has been with Fox News since the channel debuted would call it a career with the network. Chief political correspondent Carl Cameron is leaving FNC after starting with Fox News in 1995, a year before it took to the air. In a statement on Cameron’s retirement, President of News Jay Wallace said the following about the departing correspondent: (Snip) Cameron addressed his colleagues in an email, letting them know he will “always be immensely grateful for the relationships, experiences, and many lessons over the last two decades.” He touched on some of the momentous
You’ve heard it out there. You know the story already. USA Today “broke” it in a huge scoop on Monday: “Exclusive: Secret Service depletes funds to pay agents because of Trump’s frequent travel, large family.” That’s yuuuge. Trump is bankrupting America! America, d*mn it! “The Secret Service,” the explosive lead said, “can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission — in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump’s family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.” (Snip) But it turns out the
It was a tough weekend for Al Gore. Not only did “An Inconvenient Sequel” continue its nosedive at the box office, but the climate change documentary also drew a scathing rebuttal from a leading climate scientist. Climatologist Roy W. Spencer, principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, released Saturday an 81-page e-book on Amazon titled “An Inconvenient Deception: How Al Gore Distorts Climate Science and Energy Policy.” “After viewing Gore’s most recent movie, ‘An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,’ and after reading the book version of the movie, I was more than a little astounded,” Mr. Spencer
The relationship between President Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, has disintegrated to the point that they have not spoken to each other in weeks, and Mr. McConnell has privately expressed uncertainty that Mr. Trump will be able to salvage his administration after a series of summer crises. What was once an uneasy governing alliance has curdled into a feud of mutual resentment and sometimes outright hostility, complicated by the position of Mr. McConnell’s wife, Elaine L. Chao, in Mr. Trump’s cabinet, according to more than a dozen people briefed on their imperiled partnership. Angry phone calls and
A chief of staff of Democratic Rep. Yvette Clarke quietly agreed in early 2016 to sign away a $120,000 missing electronics problem on behalf of two former IT aides now suspected of stealing equipment from Congress, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned. Clarke’s chief of staff at the time effectively dismissed the loss and prevented it from coming up in future audits by signing a form removing the missing equipment from a House-wide tracking system after one of the Awan brothers alerted the office the equipment was gone. The Pakistani-born brothers are now at the center of an FBI
Two members of the Kennedy family were arrested for disorderly conduct near the family’s famed compound on Cape Cod, according to police. Max Kennedy, the 52-year-old son of Robert F. Kennedy, was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and a noise violation around 1 a.m. Sunday morning after reports of loud partying, Barnstable Police told the Boston Herald. His daughter Caroline, a 22-year-old California resident, was also arrested at a home a short walk from the main Kennedy compound. (Snip) The arrests come after a brush with the law for another of RFK’s grandchildren, Conor Kennedy, who
“There must always” be a flow low-skilled immigration to the United States, no matter its impact on American workers, according to Republican establishment figure Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ). Flake slammed the idea of potentially cutting legal immigration levels in half to raise the wages of American workers and end the current low-skilled oriented system to make only admit immigrants based on their skills and merit in a New York Times op-ed. Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA) introduced the specific plan, known as the “RAISE Act.” President Donald Trump endorsed the plan and said the legislation “will reduce poverty, increase
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are among a set of White House aides pushing President Trump to allow illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to stay, in an effort to get Democrats to fund the president´s border wall. McClatchy reported that the group of White House officials have suggested using so-called ´Dreamers´ as a bargaining chip, in order to check off some of the president´s campaign promises on immigration, including the wall, additional detention facilities, an E-verify system for employers and cuts to legal immigration. However, such a move would break another campaign promise, as candidate Donald Trump had pledged
Black Lives Matter activist Chanelle Helm released a list of “requests” to white people in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month. Helm, the so-called “cofounder and core organizer of Black Lives Matter Louisville,” explained in an article published at Leoweekly.com the things she says need to “change.” “White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably one that lives in generational poverty,” Helm writes in an article titled “White people, here are 10 requests from a Black Lives Matter leader.” White people are asked, “Give up the
The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday gave a strong endorsement to the movement for removing monuments to leaders of the Confederacy and called for the electoral college to be abolished. Speaking at the Islamic Center of Southern California, Jackson blamed the electoral college system, giving disproportionate influence to less populated states, for the 2000 and 2016 loss of Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Hillary Clinton despite their winning the popular vote. “Today we are looking at a structural problem,” Jackson said. “These monuments must go. Calling for the audience to repeat, he said, “Say the monuments and the flags
WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump´s family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast. Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex´´ Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year. The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it
Thanks to Monday´s solar eclipse, disastrous traffic jams have been taking over the country these last few days. And as folks leave the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse since 1918, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimated that nearly two-thirds of the nation´s resident live withing a day´s drive of the path of totality. And with Oregon being the first to see the eclipse, it and neighboring state Washington are experiencing the worst bouts of the traffic jams. ´This is the biggest transportation event that has ever hit Oregon,´ Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation told AP. Oregon
As the face of CNN, Anderson Cooper makes a very good living as wealthy, privileged white man casting judgments of affiliation upon his political enemies. This includes taking a handful of idiotic white supremacists and declaring they represent millions of Republicans/conservatives, pro-America, Trump supporters, etc. And yet Mr. Cooper himself has a much closer affiliation to slavery than he likely wants his leftist viewers to know. As a descendant of the Vanderbilt family, one of the wealthiest “old money” families in American history, Cooper is a direct descendant of big time slave owners. Cooper’s great-great grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, owned several plantations,
A Texas college campus removed four statues of prominent Confederate figures in an overnight sweep, according to reports. The statues of Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston, Confederate Postmaster General John H. Reagan and former Texas Gov. James Stephen Hogg were each taken down from the campus’ Main Mall in an operation beginning just before midnight and continuing through the early morning, KSAT 12 reported. “Last week, the horrific displays of hatred at the University of Virginia and in Charlottesville shocked and saddened the nation,” University of Texas President Greg Fenves said in a statement. “These events make
The eclipse that occurred over Chicago led thousands to the beaches and streets, where they gasped and cried out as the sun partially disappeared. For WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling, it was an especially awe-inspiring event. The famed meteorologist hugged and high-fived people around him and wept as the eclipse occurred Monday afternoon. "Oh, my word," Skilling said. "Wow. This is amazing. What do you think of this, this?" At another point, he told viewers, "I´ll get my act together, guys." His voice cracking, Skilling apologized for his tears. Skilling´s heartfelt reaction earned him praise from fans:
President Trump’s “America First” base was the biggest loser of Trump’s speech on Afghanistan Monday night, and many quickly expressed their disappointment at the business-as-usual address from the president who had once promised to limit American intervention abroad and focus on nation-building at home. Trump’s speech, in which he pledged to increase the number of troops in the 16-year-war, was the first since the departure of Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had
Students at Howard University, a top-rated historically black college in Washington D.C., took to social media to express their anger over a group of white high school girls wearing pro-Trump clothing who visited the campus on Saturday. Some tweets referring to their visit also suggested the white high school girls should be beaten up. One of the high school guests, in a social media post of her own, said they were simply visiting the school’s cafeteria to get food as part of a larger tour of the nation’s capital, and faced a barrage of insults and aggressive acts, including having
