A Vatican Shot Across the Bow
for Hard-Line U.S. Catholics

New York Times, by Jason Horowitz

VATICAN CITY — Two close associates of Pope Francis have accused American Catholic ultraconservatives of making an alliance of “hate” with evangelical Christians to back President Trump, further alienating a group already out of the Vatican’s good graces. The authors, writing in a Vatican-vetted journal, singled out Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trump’s chief strategist, as a “supporter of an apocalyptic geopolitics” that has stymied action against climate change and exploited fears of migrants and Muslims with calls for “walls and purifying deportations.” The article warns that conservative American Catholics have strayed dangerously into the deepening political polarization in the United States. The

Comments:
This is just shocking. I had the TV on mute and saw Laura Ingraham on FNC and they were discussing this. She said there was no way this would been published if it hadn´t been approved by the Pope. I state this because in the article it says they don´t know if this article ´had received the Pope´s blessing.´ Where´s the hatred and contempt for Catholics like Nancy Pelosi and others who support the murdering of babies? I´ve never seen such conduct from the Vatican during my lifetime.

This Pope seems to continue espousing strong leftist views, and anti Trump activities. He is pushing many Catholics away and this type of shots will push many more.

Long past time for American Catholics to become just that, American Catholics, and separate from the Roman pope. The Brits did it. Now America’s turn.

This is very, very wrong.

It saddens me to think that "hard-line" Catholics are "bad."

I´ll stay with EWTN...Their documentary on Saul Alinsky and the infiltration into the Catholic Church...way back when is frightening. It explains much of the turmoil in the ´60´s which bothered my uncle (a Catholic priest) and my parents very much.

It seems that infiltration has reached Rome. Pray for the Bishops who speak up and are willing to take a stand for us. Their lives will not be pleasant.

I´ll never leave the church. And I still love and respect the Pope, who was chosen by the Holy Spirit, and is now for some bizarre reason holed up in some Italian retirement home, while someone else wears his robes and sits in his throne.

Seriously. Why do we have TWO popes and why is this continuously treated like its no big deal? It is a HUGE deal. Blame the American Catholics all you want Rome, but that is what is at the root of all of the division.

Let us keep in mind where this article is coming from - the NYSlimes - an incredible and unreliable news site that will go out of its way to foment trouble and create controversy where one does not exist. I would only refer curious catholics to go to the original article and read it carefully. P. Francis is a centrist if a label must be applied. I don´t believe that he intends harm to conservatives or even to the RC Church. Granted he may not be the conservative that many of us miss in P. Benedict but P. Francis is a holy and gentle man that history will show really did the best he could given his short-comings.

Don´t sweat it. The Church often has dumb politics. It is not what the Church is about. One, holy, catholic and apostolic, she is among other things the world´s foremost defender of the value of human life itself. This would be why the NYT is trying to isolate her. It will not work. in the meantime, for your own peace of mind, please please try to understand that Catholics do not vote the way the Church instructs. That is a zany anti-Catholic meme. What we do, is listen to what she says about faith and morals. All of that is right. Calm down, be happy. She has her area and she manages it perfectly. It is not politics.

The gates of Hell shall not prevail against the Church founded upon Peter the Rock. God is quite capable of guiding and protecting His Church regardless of what men do with or against Her. One pope, two popes or even three popes will not diminish or destroy Her. Catholics are called to seek the truth concerning these opinions stated by the pope concerning politics and economics but they are free to disagree upon examining them.

Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are among a set of White House aides pushing President Trump to allow illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children to stay, in an effort to get Democrats to fund the president´s border wall. McClatchy reported that the group of White House officials have suggested using so-called ´Dreamers´ as a bargaining chip, in order to check off some of the president´s campaign promises on immigration, including the wall, additional detention facilities, an E-verify system for employers and cuts to legal immigration. However, such a move would break another campaign promise, as candidate Donald Trump had pledged

The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday gave a strong endorsement to the movement for removing monuments to leaders of the Confederacy and called for the electoral college to be abolished. Speaking at the Islamic Center of Southern California, Jackson blamed the electoral college system, giving disproportionate influence to less populated states, for the 2000 and 2016 loss of Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Hillary Clinton despite their winning the popular vote. “Today we are looking at a structural problem,” Jackson said. “These monuments must go. Calling for the audience to repeat, he said, “Say the monuments and the flags

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump´s family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast. Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex´´ Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year. The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it

Thanks to Monday´s solar eclipse, disastrous traffic jams have been taking over the country these last few days. And as folks leave the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse since 1918, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimated that nearly two-thirds of the nation´s resident live withing a day´s drive of the path of totality. And with Oregon being the first to see the eclipse, it and neighboring state Washington are experiencing the worst bouts of the traffic jams. ´This is the biggest transportation event that has ever hit Oregon,´ Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation told AP. Black Lives Matter activist Chanelle Helm released a list of “requests” to white people in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month. Helm, the so-called “cofounder and core organizer of Black Lives Matter Louisville,” explained in an article published at Leoweekly.com the things she says need to “change.” “White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably one that lives in generational poverty,” Helm writes in an article titled “White people, here are 10 requests from a Black Lives Matter leader.” White people are asked, “Give up the

As the face of CNN, Anderson Cooper makes a very good living as wealthy, privileged white man casting judgments of affiliation upon his political enemies. This includes taking a handful of idiotic white supremacists and declaring they represent millions of Republicans/conservatives, pro-America, Trump supporters, etc. And yet Mr. Cooper himself has a much closer affiliation to slavery than he likely wants his leftist viewers to know. As a descendant of the Vanderbilt family, one of the wealthiest “old money” families in American history, Cooper is a direct descendant of big time slave owners. Cooper’s great-great grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, owned several plantations,

A Texas college campus removed four statues of prominent Confederate figures in an overnight sweep, according to reports. The statues of Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston, Confederate Postmaster General John H. Reagan and former Texas Gov. James Stephen Hogg were each taken down from the campus’ Main Mall in an operation beginning just before midnight and continuing through the early morning, KSAT 12 reported. “Last week, the horrific displays of hatred at the University of Virginia and in Charlottesville shocked and saddened the nation,” University of Texas President Greg Fenves said in a statement. “These events make

The eclipse that occurred over Chicago led thousands to the beaches and streets, where they gasped and cried out as the sun partially disappeared. For WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling, it was an especially awe-inspiring event. The famed meteorologist hugged and high-fived people around him and wept as the eclipse occurred Monday afternoon. "Oh, my word," Skilling said. "Wow. This is amazing. What do you think of this, this?" At another point, he told viewers, "I´ll get my act together, guys." His voice cracking, Skilling apologized for his tears. Skilling´s heartfelt reaction earned him praise from fans:

President Trump’s “America First” base was the biggest loser of Trump’s speech on Afghanistan Monday night, and many quickly expressed their disappointment at the business-as-usual address from the president who had once promised to limit American intervention abroad and focus on nation-building at home. Trump’s speech, in which he pledged to increase the number of troops in the 16-year-war, was the first since the departure of Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had
