U.S. Navy punishes sailor who hid for
days aboard USS Shiloh

UPI, by Andrew V. Pestano

Original Article

Posted By:BaseballFan, 7/19/2017 9:49:42 PM

The U.S. Navy said it has punished a sailor who went hiding after presumably going missing aboard the USS Shiloh near Japan, which triggered a search-and-rescue mission. The U.S. Navy said Gas Turbine Systems Technician (Mechanical) 3rd Class Peter Mims violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice´s Article 86, abandoning watch, and Article 92, dereliction in the performance of duties. Lt. Paul Newell, a spokesman for the Navy´s 7th Fleet, said the branch would not disclose how Mims was punished but said additional action could be taken. "We are not disclosing any of the punitive actions taken against him," Newell

Comments:
What the heck? Taxpayers don´t have a right to know what the punitive action will be? How about a Bad Conduct Discharge? What the heck is "administrative action", anyway? A letter in his personnel file?

Just being a taxpayer doesn´t give you the right to everything. In fact, it doesn´t give you the right to most information. You can trust that the Navy will not be easy on him. Most likely brig time, I have no idea how much time. I hope he doesn´t get a bcd, it will ruin his life and I´m sure he is a young man. Maybe a general if he is incompatible with military service.

Administrative action is an Article 15 (non-judicial punishment) or lower. I think the navy calls it a "Captain´s Mast". The books say it is a rehabilitative tool but it pretty much washes up a military career.
What it does not do is follow you outside the military like a Court Martial will.

He´ll get the boot. And since most guys enlist as an E-2 or even E-3, as an E-4 he didn´t receive " numerous promotions", UPI. All this said, the guy obviously developed some issues.

#5, perhaps the Navy is different, but...I had an article 15, USAF, and when I transferred to another base, the article 15 disappeared from my records, didn´t hurt me a bit career wise.

Colorado on Wednesday announced that it would join 15 other states and the District of Columbia in a lawsuit against President Trump’s decision to phase out the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-Colo.) called Trump’s decision to end the program “outrageous,” pressing Congress to “immediately” pass the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act and immigration reforms. “President Trump’s decision to end the DACA program is outrageous and risks the futures of more than 17,000 Coloradans. Defense Secretary James Mattis isn’t keeping private any of his feelings about what it means to serve in the U.S. Navy. A new study finds an increase in accident insurance claims in three states that have approved the sale of marijuana for recreational use. According the Highway Loss Data Institute, the number of vehicle collisions reported to insurance companies in Colorado, Oregon and Washington is 3 percent higher than what would have been expected if those states had not made it legal to buy pot. "We´re concerned about what we´re seeing," said Matt Moore, the institute´s senior vice president. Mayor John Cranley did not intentionally issue a proclamation in honor the man who fatally shot Police Officer Sonny Kim - a message he wove into his speech to officers gathered on Fountain Square Friday to honor fallen officers. A day after the proclamation was issued and spotted on Facebook, Cranley apologized to the officers and their family members, saying "I am here to intentionally stand with you." "Yesterday we unintentionally hurt people in this community... I am deeply sorry," he said. Officers, standing shoulder to shoulder in uniform, were solemn as Cranley spoke, showing no reaction to the apology.

Hillary Clinton told CNN on Wednesday that it is time to abolish the Electoral College, part of a sweeping interview where the former Democratic nominee sought to explain why she lost the 2016 election. Clinton, in the interview with CNN´s Anderson Cooper, displayed her animus for fired FBI Director James Comey, reflected on her love for the people -- namely former President Bill Clinton -- who helped her get through the crushing loss and blasted the arcane election body that she believes helped Donald Trump win the presidency. "I think it needs to be eliminated," Clinton said of the Electoral

President Donald Trump on Thursday squashed earlier reports that he agreed to protect so-called “Dreamers” during a dinner meeting with two top Democrats, and said “massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent.” Trump’s Twitter post was in response to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who said in a statement that Trump agreed to protect Dreamers and agreed to terms on border security -- "excluding the wall." Trump tweeted, "The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and

The first lady, 47, wore black and beige Chanel flats as she flew from Washington, DC to Fort Myers, Florida with her husband this morning to meet with citizens impacted by Hurricane Irma. Last month, she caused an uproar when she donned high heels while to visit areas struck by Hurricane Harvey in Texas—but wore similar shoes on a follow-up trip to the disaster-struck state earlier this month. Hillary Clinton’s “What Happened” reads like a therapy session in which the losing presidential candidate works through the five stages of grief in real time. There’s plenty of anger, oodles of denial, bouts of depression, some desperate bargaining and finally a modicum of acceptance. But not before she’s thrown everyone from President Obama to Bernie Sanders under the bus for her loss to Donald Trump. Among her many laments? “I don’t think the press did their job,” as she tells Vox’s Ezra Klein. Expanding on that, she told him the press obsessed over Trump because she was talking policy while he was “good

Facing harsh criticism, a Harvard dean said early Friday morning that he was revoking his invitation to Chelsea Manning, a former United States soldier convicted of leaking classified information, to be a visiting fellow at the university. The sudden turnabout by the Harvard Kennedy School came after a day of intense backlash over the university’s announcement on Wednesday that Ms. Manning would become a visiting fellow at the Institute of Politics this school year. Douglas W. Elmendorf, the dean of the Harvard Kennedy School, said that while the university encourages a diversity of opinions and does not shy from controversy,

After months of denials, the pretext for Susan Rice’s eavesdropping on Trump officials has finally been made public. It had been widely known that Obama’s former National Security Adviser had contrived to unmask the names of top Trump officials who had been spied on by the administration. And the same media that still treats Watergate as the Great American Scandal had claimed that there was nothing “improper” in an Obama loyalist eavesdropping on members of the opposition party. Every time Obama Inc. was caught eavesdropping on opposition politicians, it presented its spin in a carefully packaged “scoop” to a major media

John McCain is joining a bipartisan push to block President Donald Trump from banning transgender people from serving in the military. Mr Trump issued a moratorium last month instructing the military to stop providing gender reassignment surgeries for transgender troops, and to stop plans to recruit those troops. That decision came following an order from his predecessor that instructed the military to begin considering programmes to allow transgender people to serve openly and without worry in the military. Chelsea Manning has been making quite a spectacle of himself out on Twitter, taking Michael Morrell´s and Mike Pompeo´s exit from the school as a welcome new opportunity to call attention to himself. He starts with an emoji-filled cheer at news of Morrell´s resignation from his own Harvard post based on its bad judgment in bringing him into the university to ´mentor´ students, declaring it ´good´ that Morrell has pulled out. Not a thought about how Morrell´s exit might affect Harvard, it´s all about himself and his feelings instead. Note the high emoji count, by the way - an advertisement
