Jeff Sessions Announces
Justice Department Will
Increase Asset Forfeiture

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the Justice Department will issue new directives to increase the federal govenment´s use of civil asset forfeiture, a controversial practice that allows law enforcement to seize property from suspected criminals without charging them with a crime. Speaking at a National District Attorneys Association conference in Minneapolis Monday, Sessions said state and local law enforcement could expect changes from U.S. Attorneys in several areas: increased prosecution of gun crimes, immigration offenses, gang activity, and prescription drug abuse, as well as increased asset seizure by the federal government.

It´s still armed robbery when the robbers have badges.

Spread the word in the immigrant community that fraudulent accumulation of wealth will not be tolerated and subject to forfeiture. Every penny of value illegals have is a product of fraud, a con that costs the American people billions annually at all levels of government. Find them, take it, and watch the roads south jam with vehicles stacked high with possessions. Build the wall with the proceeds.

Sessions has been a yuge, yuge disappointment.

Leftists have been committing one criminal act after another - - and this guy is focusing on drug addiction and property seizures.

Folks, this is not good. When in Justice, I´m very familiar with Asset Forfeiture. This is very dangerous if not monitored and enforced carefully.

AG Sessions, be very careful because this has created problems for innocent people.

I´m not getting a good feeling about this.

I don´t suppose Washington D.C. has ever heard of the 5th Amendment, which states that no person shall "be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

Where is the due process when you have to spend your time and money to prove that your cash is not guilty of a crime, when no crime was committed? You "could" have been thinking about using that cash to buy drugs.

When money or a car is taken from a citizen and given to a police department, what is that except private property taken for public use? These people are shameless, and corrupt.

Do not agree with this - no due process, absolute give-up with no warning.

Take this scenario: I buy expensive vehicle from investment and retirement funds. I drive said vehicle in whatever state. Suddenly, I am pulled over for driving under some stupid offense..like 40 in a 25 zone, a vehicle bought with retirement or other cash funds from work.

They take said vehicle in lieu of ...what? Never get it back. That has happened to people I know.

The Dutch love their bicycles, if we are to believe what we read in The New York Times. A quarter of all trips are made by bicycle, the paper reports, "and the federal government has been building up the country´s bike infrastructure over the last decade." Here´s what: "The yearly investment of roughly 500 million euros, or about $600 million, pays for itself, proponents say, by reducing health, social and other costs." Mirabile dictu! Over the last two weeks we’ve heard a lot of folderol and bambosh about Republicans, conservatives, Texans — etc. — not “believing” in science because recent hurricanes have been bad and climate change is causing it and blah blah blah. As you can probably tell, I don’t think much of all that. We had a historic lull in hurricanes until the lull was over. Once the hurricanes started back up, so did the claim that climate change caused the hurricanes just as the scientists predicted — the same scientists who didn’t predict the lull. A federal jury has actually convicted a Chicago Police officer of misconduct! He might even go to prison. Officer Marco Proano, 42, was convicted Monday (after just four hours of deliberation) of two felony counts of using excessive force in violation of civil rights. The maximum federal penalty for his conviction is up to 10 years in prison. He will actually serve much less time, given his lack of a criminal record. Despite the drumbeat of stories about horrible behavior by officers in Chicago, actual accountability has been hard to come by. The Chicago Tribune notes that this is, remarkably

Last week the Indiana Court of Appeals ruled that an Indianapolis police officer exceeded the limits imposed by the Fourth Amendment when she reached inside a woman´s underwear to retrieve a blunt during a routine traffic stop. The logic of the decision suggests that victims of even more invasive public pot searches in Texas have a strong case that police violated their constitutional rights along with their privacy and dignity. Intelligent people are more likely to swear and walk around naked at home, according to a new study. Quizzing about 1,000 people on 400 typical behaviours, researchers at the University of Rochester in the US also found that extroverts are prone to telling dirty jokes, while those with agreeable personalities are more likely to sing in the shower. During the study, participants were asked if they performed each of the 400 behaviours, and how often. The results were then compared with their own personalities, with the aim being to identify signature behaviours for each of the main personality types.

It almost never fails. When I’m asked to speak to Evangelical audiences about politics, I can predict the reaction to the speech based almost entirely on the age of the audience. If a Christian is older than me, he’s often angry. If younger, usually grateful. A recent interaction is typical. After being asked in a question-and-answer session about Trump’s use of Twitter, I argued that Christians should be just as concerned about falsehoods and unpresidential behavior as they were during the Obama administration. Donald Trump likes to talk about being tough, though I have argued — and Trump has shown — that his “toughness” is a fiction based in another fiction. He uses the word “nice” with contempt, as when he advised a group of police officers in Long Island “don’t be too nice” to suspects in custody. Abusing a suspect in handcuffs isn’t tough, of course: It is sadism, but this tendency informs Trump’s policy thinking, to the extent that he engages in such a thing: being “rough” with terrorism suspects’ families, “get tough” with China on trade, etc. He even had
