U.S. airstrikes in Afghanistan are at
levels not seen since Obama troop surge

Washington Post, by Thomas Gibbons-Neff

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 7/17/2017 4:52:48 PM

The U.S. air war in Afghanistan has returned to a level of intensity not seen since American forces were still fanned out across the country and fighting Taliban militants in daily skirmishes in 2012, according to recently released military data. As of June 30, U.S. and coalition aircraft had dropped or expended 1,634 munitions in Afghanistan so far this year, according to U.S. Air Force numbers. By comparison, in 2015 and 2016, that figure was 298 and 545 respectively. The majority of this year’s strikes have been used to go after the Taliban, said Navy Capt. Bill Salvin, a spokesman for the U.S.-led mission in Afghanistan.

Comments:
This is what happens when you let a "Mad Dog" marine loose to do his job. There is no better a military leader that puts his troops first while going to accomplish their mission. Another feel good story from a source that wanted to imply US airstrike might lead to "collateral damage". Was 0bama´s feet ever put to the fire for his civilian losses in the Middle East? Rhetorical question.

This is exactly what I mean. Ignore the article, cause I am not posting it. Was just making a point. The Washington Post and New York Times are working together and are EVIL people placing these articles together in time for the evening commute and network news cycle .

Let´s ask the Mad Dog how this leads to victory, i.e. a pacified and politically united Afghanistan willing and able to defend itself...or is the US re-committing itself to a policy of perpetual active military presence and airstrikes to keep the Talibani from getting to Kabul while we "train" the Afghans to take on the struggle?

Ultimately this "feel good" stuff will prove expensive insanity as the most likely outcome is multiple military double-downs than any lasting success. After nearly two decades of involvement, payoffs and fighting, the United States is no closer to a stable Afghanistan than when American bombs first dropped on Tora Bora.

The device that shook the mountains over the Punggye-ri test site on Sunday represented a quantum leap for North Korea’s nuclear capability, producing an explosion at least five times greater than the country’s previous tests and easily powerful enough to devastate a large city. (Snip) The feat instantly erased lingering skepticism about Pyongyang’s technical capabilities and brought the prospect of nuclear-tipped North Korean intercontinental ballistic missiles a step closer to reality, U.S. analysts and weapons experts said. Beijing - It was supposed to be Xi Jinping’s moment to bask in global prestige, as the Chinese president hosted the leaders of some of the world’s most dynamic economies at a summit meeting just weeks before a Communist Party leadership conference. But just hours before Mr. Xi was set to address the carefully choreographed summit on Sunday, North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, detonated his sixth nuclear bomb. Mr. Kim has timed his nuclear tests and missile launches with exquisite precision, apparently trying to create maximum embarrassment for China. And on Sunday, gathering in southeast China of leaders

A brush fire in the Verdugo Mountains north of downtown Los Angeles has burned more than 5,000 acres, making it one of the largest fires in the city’s history and one that officials warn could grow larger if erratic weather conditions continue. Hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze overnight and into the morning, and at one point, the flames were spreading in four directions amid intense heat and wild winds. Three homes have burned, but no injuries have been reported, officials said Saturday. Firefighters faced another day of triple-digit temperatures in some inland areas of Southern California as a heat wave that

An Obama-era initiative known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), allows unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the country as children and have clean legal records to get work permits and avoid deportation. Mr Trump has sent mixed signals on his intention for Daca but a threat by Republican attorneys general to sue if Mr Trump does not suspend the program is forcing a decision.

Cleveland safety forces have backed out of a plan to hold a large flag on the field for the opening game. A dozen Browns players created a firestorm during a recent preseason game by not standing during the anthem. They created the largest demonstration in the NFL during the anthem since former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick started his protest more than a year ago.
