Through Selective Security Clearances,
Unelected Intelligence Agencies Claim
Power To Veto President’s Advisors

The Federalist, by Angelo Codevilla

On July 8 The New York Times reported that President Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner’s application for a security clearance had failed to report his contact with some Russians. The media found this ominous. I do too, but for a different reason. The national security agencies of the executive branch are demanding that the president communicate about national security matters only with advisers to whom they issue clearances. Someone in the FBI had slipped Kushner’s questionnaire to the Times. Publication of the story underlined the threat to withdraw the clearance. Nor is this an idle threat. On February 11,

The American people would love to see the security applications for Valery Jarret and Huma Abedin.

Maybe the FBI can leak those.

And again, the apparatchik will not be found, tried, nor jailed. The inmates are running the asylum, and it´s a serious problem.

Liberals built a welfare state that doesn’t offer upward mobility to Americans trapped in poverty, “Hillbilly Elegy” author J.D. Vance says, and conservatives should step forward and chart “a new direction” in government policy. The best-selling writer, speaking Thursday at The Heritage Foundation for the think tank’s release of its 2017 Index of Culture and Opportunity, said conservatives who better understand “broken homes and broken neighborhoods” will reach solutions that get better results. “We know that we have a crisis of opportunity in the country,” Vance said. Importantly, he said, Heritage’s index charting societal trends recognizes that the cultural disadvantage

California Dems Learn Gun Control

Since the passage of “Gunpocalypse” (June 30, 2016), and Proposition 63 (November 8, 2016), California Democrats have learned that gun control is easy to pass but difficult to implement. The problem for Democrats is that they have already passed so many gun laws that they have now begun trading the real for the theoretical, struggling to find a way to stop the crimes and terrorist attacks that none of their existing gun controls have stopped. In fact, Democrats are fighting for gun control with such fervor that one of their current undertakings is reworking a previous law in order to

Deep State leaked top secret information on Friday to The Washington Post in their continued attempt to destroy the Trump administration. The latest leaks prove the Obama administration was spying on the Trump campaign. President Trump tweeted on Barack Obama’s illegal spying on his political opponents in 2016. POTUS Trump tweeted this in March. (Tweet) Since that time we now know that the FBI was investigating the Trump Tower servers during the election. We also know Susan Rice lied at first but then admitted when she got caught that she was unmasking her political opponents phone calls. Rice blamed racism after

The purpose of a special counsel is to investigate if a federal crime was committed. There has been no charge or allegation that Trump or his campaign workers violated any federal law. The authorization by Assistant Attorney General Rosenstein to Mueller read: (a) Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice. (b) The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confirmed by then-FBI Director James B. Comey in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017, including: (i) any links and/or coordination between the

Special Counsel Robert Mueller relinquished his membership at a golf course owned by President Donald Trump ´without dispute´ six years ago, his office said amid a new effort to muddy the investigator. Mueller´s office is contesting an account floated by the White House that there was some sort of an issue with Mueller, a former member of Trump´s club that hugs the Potomac River near Washington, that could potentially interfere with his inquiry. President Trump himself is said to be nursing a grudge about the issue, which his legal team is grasping as it compiles a list of potential conflicts

The Democrats, and Sen. Chuck Schumer in particular, have engaged in an outrageous set of practices from 1993 to 2017 that have allowed them to steal huge majorities on all the federal circuit courts of appeals. This story needs telling because Senate Republicans, while performing very admirably in replacing Justice Scalia with Justice Gorsuch, have had their pockets picked with the courts of appeals. Federal courts of appeals decide over 60,000 cases a year while the Supreme Court decides only 80. We could have a Supreme Court of nine Justices Gorsuch and still lose 59,020 cases a year. Sean Spicer resigned as White House Press Secretary on Friday. Journalists immediately jumped on this as an example of yet more turmoil and harped on Spicer’s “missteps.” But White House tumult is hardly new, even for Presidents who would go on to serve two terms. ABC should know, considering that the network admitted in 1993 that then-President Bill Clinton “shunted aside” top aide George Stephanopoulos in favor of “grown-up” David Gergen. Stephanopoulos would go on to eventually host Good Morning America on the network. After a string of verbal miscues, Stephanopoulos lost his job as Clinton’s de-facto press secretary. In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate. When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all. The president has not made a secret of the fact that he blames Sessions for the scandal that now engulfs the Trump administration, claiming in

The U.S. special counsel investigating possible ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s election is examining a broad range of transactions involving Trump’s businesses as well as those of his associates, according to a person familiar with the probe. The president told the New York Times on Wednesday that any digging into matters beyond Russia would be out of bounds. Trump’s businesses have involved Russians for years, making the boundaries fuzzy so Special Counsel Robert Mueller appears to be taking a wide-angle approach to his two-month-old probe. Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller has widened the scope of the Russia investigation to include Mr. Trump’s business deals, according to a Bloomberg News report. Today the White House touted the accomplishments of the administration in the first six months, and the list included: “Attorney General Jeff Sessions implemented new charging guidelines to end catch-and-release policies.” Of course, the president’s not so focused on that part of Sessions’ record lately. As noted in the Jolt, Trump declared in an interview with the New York Times, “Sessions should have never recused himself, and if he was going to recuse himself, he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.” Tensions between a president and attorney general aren’t new

We just learned that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is in a battle against brain cancer. Yet, he´s not letting that stop him from still speaking his mind on foreign policy. Reports suggest that President Trump has ended a CIA program to arm and train anti-Assad rebels in Syria. The senator said that is unacceptable and used it to suggest the Trump administration has yet to offer a comprehensive plan on Syria. He also predicted that Russia will be huge fans of this development, since they want to see Bashar al-Assad remain in power.

If Sen. John McCain were to leave the Senate before his term ends in 2022, the governor would decide who fills the vacancy. McCain, who revealed Wednesday that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, made no indication he intends to step away. "Further consultations with Senator McCain´s Mayo Clinic care team will indicate when he will return to the United States Senate,” his office said in a statement. But were circumstances to require that McCain be replaced, that person would have to be a Republican, as McCain is, and would serve until the next general election, which happens every two years
