Ruling shows I´m right
on Trump and corruption

The Hill, by Alan Dershowitz

The recent reversal of Sheldon Silver’s corruption conviction by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit confirms the point I’ve been making for months about President Trump: his actions, as controversial as they may be, do not fit the definition of “corruption,” as that vague word is used in federal statutes. My critics have argued for an extraordinarily broad definition of corruption capable of being expanded to fit nearly everything Trump has done — from firing FBI Director James Comey, to asking him to consider dropping the investigation of General Michael Flynn, to his son’s meeting with Russian

This really has to do with the SCOTUS overturning the conviction of corruption of a former REbublican governor of Virginia. It doesn´t really have anything to do with the NY Democrat other than the @nd Circus actually followed the SCOTUS ruling. Still, its gonna make it harder of hard core partisan Mueller and his clown act Hitlery followers to dream up BS charges.

Mr. Dershowitz, you may be the last true Democrat standing. I thought that was Zell Miller but you sir rise to that caliber. Bless you, it´s an honor to have you as a political opponent.

Dershowitz is a jewel, and a vanishing breed - a liberal who is actually honest and fair minded.

His comment from H.L. Menken is one I had not previously heard, although I have found that Menken is very good at encapsulating complex topics into short sayings. This one is good:
“The trouble about fighting for human freedom is that you have to spend much of your life defending sons of bitches; for oppressive laws are always aimed at them originally, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.”

Yes, exactly. And free speech is a perfect example.

American search-and-rescue teams are being deployed to Mexico after President Trump offered assistance to Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto following a massive earthquake, the White House announced Wednesday. The president spoke to Mexican President Pena Nieto Wednesday pledged to closely coordinate with the Mexican government’s relief efforts. A huge 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico Tuesday. The quake has led to at least 200 deaths and destroyed at least 44 buildings. Chelsea Manning has been making quite a spectacle of himself out on Twitter, taking Michael Morrell´s and Mike Pompeo´s exit from the school as a welcome new opportunity to call attention to himself. He starts with an emoji-filled cheer at news of Morrell´s resignation from his own Harvard post based on its bad judgment in bringing him into the university to ´mentor´ students, declaring it ´good´ that Morrell has pulled out. Not a thought about how Morrell´s exit might affect Harvard, it´s all about himself and his feelings instead. Note the high emoji count, by the way - an advertisement

Democrats tried attacking Donald Trump as unfit for the presidency. They’ve made the case that he’s ineffective, pointing to his failure to sign a single major piece of legislation into law after eight months in the job. They’ve argued that Trump is using the presidency to enrich himself and that his campaign was in cahoots with Russia. None of it is working. Data from a range of focus groups and internal polls in swing states paint a difficult picture for the Democratic Party heading into the 2018 midterms and 2020 presidential election. It suggests that Democrats are naive if they believe

As airlines pack seats tighter than ever, the tests supposed to show that passengers can get out alive in a crash are woefully out of date. The FAA won’t make the results public, and a court warns there is “a plausible life-and-death safety concern.” For years the airlines have been allowed to steadily shrink the size of coach class seats and the space between seat rows without regulators considering the impact of this on safety. A Daily Beast investigation has found: • The tests carried out to ensure that all the passengers can safely exit a cabin in an emergency are dangerously

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — In a state built on air conditioning, millions of Florida residents now want to know one thing: When will the power be back on? Hurricane Irma’s march across Florida and into the Southeast triggered one of the bigger blackouts in U.S. history, plunging as many as 13 million people into the dark as the storm dragged down power lines and blew out transformers. It also shattered the climate-controlled bubbles that enable people to live here despite the state’s heat, humidity and insects.

In the beginning of the 2016 presidential race, most conservatives like myself, had their own favorites and very few considered Donald Trump as one. Mine was Rick Perry followed by Marco Rubio once Gov. Perry dropped out. As the race proceeded and Trump continued to mow them all down, I was dismayed at how the debates seemed to be fixed by the GOP establishment and the media. Then a strange thing happened. I started listening to what Donald Trump was saying during his campaign. My brother Joe who was battling late stage cancer called me up one night speaking enthusiastically about how

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump Jr. told Senate investigators on Thursday that he set up a June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer because he was intrigued that she might have damaging information about Hillary Clinton, saying it was important to learn about Mrs. Clinton’s “fitness” to be president. But nothing came of the Trump Tower meeting, he said, and he was adamant that he never colluded with the Russian government’s campaign to disrupt last year’s presidential election. During five hours of questioning, investigators for the Senate Judiciary Committee pressed Mr. Trump on numerous topics related to the

The Justice Department announced this week that there was no evidence that Trump Tower was wiretapped, as President Trump alleged. OK, that almost settles the issue. In the most significant escalation yet in the wrangling between Congress and the FBI over the Trump dossier, the House Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed the bureau and the Justice Department for documents relating to the dossier, the FBI´s relationship with dossier author Christopher Steele, and the bureau´s possible role in supporting what began as an opposition research project against candidate Donald Trump in the final months of last year´s presidential campaign. The subpoenas are an indication of growing frustration inside the committee over the FBI and Justice Department´s lack of cooperation in the Trump-Russia investigation.

Rice was unmasking the names of Trump officials a month before leaving office. The targets may have included her own successor, General Flynn, who was forced out of office using leaked surveillance. While Rice’s targets weren’t named, the CNN story listed a meeting with Flynn, Bannon and Kushner. Bannon was Trump’s former campaign chief executive and a senior adviser. In Federalist No. 68, his pseudonymous essay on “The Mode of Electing the President,” Alexander Hamilton wrote that the Electoral College could shield the United States “from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” (Snip) Hamilton and his colleagues never could have envisioned a year like 2016, when an enemy state—Russia—was able to manipulate America’s election process with stunning effectiveness. But it’s clear the national security rationale for the Electoral College is outdated and therefore it should be retired.
