The Catholic Church is a boat “on the verge of capsizing,” said Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in a personal message for the funeral Mass of his close friend, Cardinal Joachim Meisner on Saturday. Given his inability to travel, the usually silent retired Pope delivered the message in writing, and had it read aloud in the Cologne Cathedral by his personal secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, who also serves as Prefect of the Papal Household for Pope Francis. In the text, Benedict said that Cardinal Meisner “found it difficult to leave his post, especially at a time in which the Church stands in particularly
Comments: Article goes on to talk about Meisner’s having been one of four cardinals who submitted a list of questions, “dubia”, to the Pope regarding various doctrinal doubts. They received no reply.
Notably, Cardinal Meisner was one of the four cardinals who presented a series of questions, or “dubia,” to Pope Francis last September, asking him to clarify five serious doctrinal doubts proceeding from his 2016 apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) concerning Holy Communion for the divorced and remarried, the indissolubility of marriage, and the proper role of conscience.
When the Pope failed to respond, the cardinals published their questions.
From the days of the Crusades, the Church had iron teeth to defend against any onslaught by the Islamic hordes up to the Battle of Vienna. Nowadays, it lost its teeth and has only gums. Politically speaking, what use is the Church today? Morally and spiritually? It has little chance to survive, given the ideology of the leftist Argentinian pope.
I quit trying to keep up with the endless changes since the end of having the Latin Mass. These days I quietly pray the Mass from my old Father Stedman Missal. That´s where I started and that´s where I will end. I am not happy with this pope. There is so much infighting at the Vatican that it makes me wonder where the church is headed.
The Catholic Church has been infected by leftist secularist thinking for decades, and now has fully abandoned any interest in eternal truth, replacing it with Marxist pseudo-theology. Traditional Catholics need to put an end to the socialist rot that has overtaken their leadership.
In my diocese, 10 men were ordained this spring. We have 10 more to be ordained next spring. In my parish, our young priest says the Latin Mass weekly. He also faces the altar at the Novus Ordo Mass on Sunday evenings. Our Catholic schools are full and thriving thanks to tithing paying for K-8. Often it is in the trenches that one has to see how well the soldiers are doing, not in some general´s comfy war room.
I am not Catholic, but I have a lot of very devout Catholic friends. They are all gravely concerned about the path the current pope is trying to take their church. The recent attack on conservative Catholics in the US by some Jesuit nutcase really angered them!!!
The Catholic Church is almost 2,000 years old. I don´t think it is going to fail. But it is going to need a serious change of leadership if it isn´t going to shatter into 2 churches (the traditional Catholic Christian Church, and the looney tunes Catholic church of whatever lie-beral lunacy floats your boat)...
Thank you to all the above faithful Catholics in defense of Holy Mother Church. Christ has NEVER, nor will He ever abandon His Church on earth. He promised Peter, and the Apostles that He would remain with His Church until the end of time, and the "Gates of Hell shall not prevail against it." Our Lord doesn´t lie. We just need to keep praying despite the appearance at the Vatican during the reign of the current pontiff. NO, Francis is not the last pope. Amen to that.
Just finished watching "A wolf in Sheep´s Clothing" on EWTN. It´s about Alinsky and how he conned the Church in America, getting millions for his Social Justice Community Organizing. The documentary featured the writings of many Communists, socialists, progressives and an actor portraying Alinsky giving several monologues spouting his twisted ideology. The following describes the testimony of Bella Dodd (an ex-communist who returned to the Church with the guidance of Bishop Sheen):
-Perhaps most frightening of all was her testimony that during her time in the Party, “more than eleven hundred men had been put into the priesthood to destroy the Church from within,” the idea here being that these men would be ordained to the priesthood and progress to positions of influence and authority as monsignors and even bishops. She stated that “right now they are in the highest places in the Church” where they were working to weaken the Church’s effectiveness against Communism. These changes, she declared, would be so drastic that “you will not recognize the Catholic Church.”
How many of those 1100 mentored Jorge Mario Bergoglio?
Interesting observations in #15. The priest always faced the altar, though. What changed in the ´Novus Ordo´ after the Second Vatican Council was the location of the altar in the Sanctuary (from the back wall to the front, where the priest can face both the altar and the assembly at the same time, in the style of the Last Supper).
Raised Catholic. Gotta go with Ann Barnhardt on all of this. My former boss, devout Latin Mass only. Took him as Governor to the 2 places where full Latin Mass was offered. It is down to to one. Novus Ordus crap otherwise.
Ten days after Nick DeKlyen buried his wife, he returned to Georgetown Cemetery in western Michigan to inter the daughter whom his wife had died to save, a tragic coda for a family confronted with a heart-rending decision five months ago when Carrie DeKlyen discovered she had a tumor. She was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer that is seldom cured and has a poor prognosis. With treatment, the median survival rate is between 12 and 18 months, according to the National Institutes of Health. Making a decision that has attracted national attention, DeKlyen, a 37-year-old mother of five, opted
WASHINGTON — Senior American and Russian military leaders met for an unprecedented, face-to-face session somewhere in the Middle East this week to discuss the growing tensions in the competing battles to retake one of the remaining Islamic State strongholds in Syria. Syrian government forces, Russian special forces and U.S.-backed militants are all battling IS around the oil-rich Deir el-Zour province. The talks are aimed at ensuring safety for all the different fighting elements. The meeting, however, also suggests an expanded U.S. and Russian effort to coordinate their efforts, raising questions about how the Pentagon is adhering to an American prohibition against military-to-military
A small earthquake near North Korea´s nuclear test site was probably not man- made, the nuclear proliferation watchdog and a South Korean official said, easing fears Pyongyang had exploded another nuclear bomb just weeks after its last one.Chinese earthquake officials said the magnitude 3.4 quake detected on Saturday was a "suspected explosion" but both the CTBTO, which monitors nuclear tests, and a South Korean meteorological agency official said they believed it was a natural quake. "A key method is to look at the seismic waves or seismic acoustic waves and the latter can be detected in the case of a manmade
The United States has taken the fight to ISIS and other jihadists who have wrought chaos in Syria and Iraq since 2013. In the nine months since Donald Trump took the oath of office, U.S. forces have done a fine job of rolling back ISIS in Iraq. Now the focus is Syria, where for four years civil war has raged between the autocratic, Iranian- and Russian backed Assad regime and a multiplicity of actors, almost all of whom are some species of jihadi. Unlike Barack Obama, whose policy in Syria was some ill-defined brand of regime change, Trump has taken the
President Trump had a reply to Stephen Curry, a basketball player who said he did not want his team to go to the White House to celebrate its NBA championship: Get lost. Trump does not want the Golden State Warriors at the White House. The Warriors can pound salt. Trump tweeted this morning: "Going to the White House is considered a great honor for a championship team. Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!" Curry said he would vote against going to the White House to celebrate the team winning the NBA title last season because he does not like
Will Rogers never met Senator John McCain. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has paid millions to the GOPe to retain Obamacare on behalf of multinational corporations who exploit and erode the U.S. economy. The largest beneficiaries of those payments has long been the decepticons within the senate. McCain’s position is not a surprise. Sarah Palin endorsed Senator John McCain during his 2012 reelection bid.WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Senator John McCain said on Friday he opposes the latest Republican bill to dismantle Obamacare, dealing the measure what could be a fatal blow given the party’s slim Senate majority. With several other Republicans
Melania Trump is known for making a glamorous appearance wherever she goes, but on Friday the first lady got her hands dirty while doing a bit of gardening at the White House - while still refusing to sacrifice her love of high-end fashion. The 47-year-old spent the afternoon getting her hands dirty harvesting vegetables with students from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, D.C. in the White House Kitchen Garden, which was started by former First Lady Michelle Obama, wearing what appeared to be a very casual ensemble of jeans, sneakers, and a fall-appropriate plaid shirt. Ever the dedicated fashion
Days before the expiration of President Trump’s much-contested travel ban, the White House is reviewing a security report that aides say could serve as the basis of a new, and perhaps broader, version. The classified report by the Department of Homeland Security, sent to the White House last week, is a study of the available security and intelligence information in countries worldwide, not just the six Muslim-majority nations subject to Trump’s order banning travel by their citizens to the United States. That order expires on Sunday. Based on the findings, Trump could decide to keep the travel ban in place, or either
Baseball legend Curt Schilling talked to Tucker Carlson about the internal politics at ESPN in an interview on Wednesday´s edition of Tucker Carlson Tonight on the FOX News Channel. (Snip) CURT SCHILLING: Well, let me just say, my friends aside, I still have some friends who work there who I love dearly, this is no surprise. this is a group like -- listen, one thing we know, Tucker, and we´ve come to know, the left is about your race, your sex, your sexual preference, your identity, who you worship, who you don´t worship, who you want to sleep with whether
In recent months, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has taken to scaremongering his audience with well-worn Democratic Party talking points regarding health care insurance policy. Between yuks, he occasionally accuses Republicans of being would-be baby killers, which is treated as an important political development because, well, Jimmy Kimmel is famous. This week, the comedian was back to explain why the new Graham-Cassidy Republican "repeal" bill is bad news. There were only two things wrong with his monologue: Almost everything he said was either completely untrue or highly misleading, and his simplistic emotional appeal was completely disconnected from the real
TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran´s Revolutionary Guard on Friday unveiled its latest ballistic missile capable of reaching much of the Middle East, including Israel, while the country´s president vowed that Tehran would press ahead with its missile program in defiance of U.S. demands to the contrary. The unveiling came during a military parade in Tehran that commemorated the 1980s Iraq-Iran war. The move was a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, who in August signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran´s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. Though Iran has long boasted of
Affirmative action privileges for blacks and (to a lesser extent) Hispanics have been a near-universal feature of college admissions for what is now approaching a half century. What have we learned since the late 1960s? Perhaps the strangest result is that the biggest winners from racial quotas have turned out to be blacks who aren’t descended from victimized American slaves but are instead descended from the slave peddlers, or from whites, or, as in the case of Barack Obama, from both. (Snip)Harvard, the alpha dog of academia, performed numerous quantitative studies during the 1970s about how far it could
Sen. John McCain almost certainly just killed TrumpCare — and gave a boost to managed-care stocks such as UnitedHealth (UNH) and Centene (CNC). The Arizona Republican declared that he couldn´t "in good conscience" vote for the Graham-Cassidy plan to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with block grants to states. John McCain?Verified account @SenJohnMcCain I cannot in good conscience vote for Graham-Cassidy. A bill impacting so many lives deserves a bipartisan approach. The news brought a sudden turnaround in managed-care stocks, though much of that was short-lived. Shares of Centene, whose fortunes are more tied to the ObamaCare exchanges and Medicaid
Former First Lady Michelle Obama has spoken about what life was like for her and her family during her eight years in The White House. Her candid comments came during a moderated discussion at a tech conference in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday evening. ´It´s like being shot out of a cannon while drinking from a fire hydrant blind,´ she explained as she told of how she got used to her new way of living. ´You have to tell The White House what kind of toilet paper you like. You don´t know where your forks are.´ (Photos) Mrs Obama
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he will vote against the latest GOP effort to repeal ObamaCare, potentially dooming the legislation. “I cannot in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal. I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried," he said in a statement, referring to the legislation spearheaded by GOP Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C) and Bill Cassidy (La.). McCain´s announcement leaves GOP leadership with no room for error.
Former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) tweeted that she hopes all NFL players kneel during the national anthem on Sunday in response to President Trump´s remarks attacking Colin Kaepernick. Edwards, who left Congress earlier this year, called Trump a "white supremacist who squats in our White House" in her tweet.
The Senate’s top Democrat offered praise for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after he said he would oppose the latest ObamaCare repeal bill, which narrows the chance that Republicans can get the legislation to President Trump’s desk. “John McCain shows the same courage in Congress that he showed when he was a naval aviator,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said an hour after McCain’s statement. “I have assured Senator McCain that as soon as repeal is off the table, we Democrats are intent on resuming the bipartisan process.” McCain is the second Republican, after Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), to announce
If NFL fans continue to turn away from football, the TV networks could lose as much as $200 million in earnings, according to a new report. After ratings for Week Two crashed, adding to the angst already felt by a poor showing in Week 1, industry insiders and analysts are sounding the alarm. A new report claims that CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC could take a $200 million hit to their estimated $2.5 billion in NFL advertising earnings if fans continue to turn off the TV, the The Hollywood Reporter noted recently. The worries over earnings are not allayed by
GQ host Keith Olbermann wants NFL fans to remain seated during the national anthem to protest President Trump. “This is simple: To defend OUR right to protest we as fans/consumers ALSO must not stand during the National Anthem until Trump’s threat ends,” the former MSNBC host wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon. (Tweet) Trump asserted during a rally on Friday night that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. ) The president doubled down on Twitter Saturday morning. “If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be
His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons. Mueller’s probe more resembles an empire, with 17 prosecutors retained on the public dime. So . . .
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell snapped back at “divisive” comments about the league Saturday, hours after President Trump urged team owners to fire players who won’t stand for the national anthem. At a political rally Friday night in Alabama, Trump griped that players who kneel for “The Star Spangled Banner” disrespect the flag and should lose their jobs. (Snip) Goodell issued a statement via Twitter at 9:16 a.m. Saturday: “Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs
There really ought to be a statute of limitations on how long John McCain can play the tortured war hero card. His war hero status was exhausted with me a decade ago over a single instance. Brad Smith, who as chairman of the Federal Election Commission and law professor dared to criticize the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law on constitutional grounds (later vindicated in several Supreme Court cases culminating in the glorious Citizens United decision), came before a Senate committee one day to testify about campaign finance laws. He had recently had surgery, and had to appear in a wheelchair. Smith wheeled himself
President Donald Trump says NFL owners should fire any players who protest during the national anthem - and called on fans to walk out if they see anyone doing so. Several of the league´s top stars have refused to stand during "The Star-Spangled Banner" to protest the treatment of black people by police in the United States. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who was the first to take a public stance on the issue while playing for the San Francisco 49ers, hasn´t been signed by an NFL team for this season. While he didn´t mention Kaepernick specifically by name Trump indicated he believes any players protesting are disrespecting the flag and deserve
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel used his opening monologue Thursday to once again lambast supporters of the Graham-Cassidy health care bill -- and at one point called a Republican senator from Louisiana an "inbred." The host of ABC´s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” has emerged as a strong celebrity advocate for universal health care since his infant son had to undergo open-heart surgery in April. Kimmel made an announcement about his son during a memorable monologue at the time and has taken up the cause ever since. Part of his goal is for every child in the U.S. to have the same access to
