I. ‘Doomsday’ Peering beyond scientific reticence. It is, I promise, worse than you think. If your anxiety about global warming is dominated by fears of sea-level rise, you are barely scratching the surface of what terrors are possible, even within the lifetime of a teenager today. And yet the swelling seas — and the cities they will drown — have so dominated the picture of global warming, and so overwhelmed our capacity for climate panic, that they have occluded our perception of other threats, many much closer at hand. Rising oceans are bad, in fact very bad; but fleeing the

Wow. Just wow. I would urge Ldotters to read this, just get a sense of the extent to which Warmists have descended into their delusional fantasies, over and against the
ever-mounting evidence that anthropogenic warming is utter poppycock. Or perhaps even because of such evidence.

So the North Pole is "baking in temperatures 60 or 70 degrees warmer than normal"?? Say what? I wouldn´t be surprised if he even means "degrees Celsius". In fact, polar temperatures are slightly _lower_ than average this year, and the Summer ice melt is running behind schedule (see https://realclimatescience.com/2017/07/record-summer-cold-continues-at-the-north-pole/).

And everyone who was read the "population bomb" knows how spot on that book was, and they were only trying to predict 30 years out. Utter stupidity, all of it.

FTA: "...and the geological record shows that temperature can shift as much as ten degrees or more in a single decade. "

By drilling more deep wells than the author has brain cells, I´ve gotten a good first-handlook at the geologic record.

Man has only existed on this planet for a mere fraction of the most recent geologic era. Somehow we are to believe that by the magic of wealth transfer from productive societies to the Third World, with mandatory siphoning to the enlightened, jet-setting hypocrites of the First World, such as the author and his patron saint, Al Gore, and in turn, the prophet Mohamed-Obama, that the inexorable rise and fall of the oceans will be halted, if not reversed? Will this magic also halt the multiple pole shifts that are are as prominent in the geologic record as sea-level change? Progressives need pole shifts to support their overarching narrative that what is up is really down and vice versa.

A religious screed preaching to the choir of New York Magazine readers. Religion IS, essentially, belief in the absence of proof.
So WW and his ilk tell us "We don´t need no stinkin´proof!" Why not? Well because they operate on the "Precautionary Principle" such that, IF, IF, IF they are right, it will be SO, SO, SO bad, that they simply MUST ACT NOW despite having no PROOF. "Your honor, the accused is one nasty hombre. He lives in the same town where serial killings have occurred. Our experts have devised a software program which tells them that this guy is the likely perp. We admit that we have no witnesses, and NO PROOF. ANs our software has been wrong MANY times before. But this guy has been deemed to be the perp by the software. We deny him a jury trial and we
DEMAND his execution, based on our experts´ opinions." Now that´s REAL science for ya.

President Donald Trump amped up the energy at the United Nations 72nd General Assembly. At his maiden speech before General Assembly Tuesday, Trump called North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un “Rocket Man.” He threatened “to totally destroy” the hermit kingdom. He told reporters, “I have decided” whether to certify the international nuclear pact with Iran — but he would not reveal what that decision might be, not even to British Prime Minister Theresa May. Kim showed himself game for a verbal food fight. “A frightened dog barks louder,” he wrote in a first-person statement. It ended, the New York Times reports,

We’re eight months into the Trump presidency, and we can now draw one frustrating conclusion: Very few of the voices opposed to the president want to learn anything from their experience in 2016. The media will not slow down and make sure they get the story right as well as getting it first. Does it feel as if the country’s largest news organizations attempted any serious self-reflection about how they covered the 2016 election? Are they attempting to be more fair-minded, more dedicated to accuracy, resisting groupthink and the temptation to become an echo chamber? Hardly. At Politico, journalism professor

Several dozen tradition-minded Roman Catholic theologians, priests and academics have formally accused Pope Francis of spreading heresy with his 2016 opening to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics. In a 25-page letter delivered to Francis last month and provided Saturday to The Associated Press, the 62 signatories issued a "filial correction" to the pope — a measure they said hadn´t been employed since the 14th century. The letter accused Francis of propagating seven heretical positions concerning marriage, moral life and the sacraments with his 2016 document "The Joy of Love" and subsequent "acts, words and omissions." His pre-dawn raid was meant to intimidate Manafort, not just to collect evidence. Robert Mueller’s sprawling special-counsel investigation is playing hardball. It was not enough to get a search warrant to ransack the Virginia home of Paul Manafort, even as the former Trump campaign chairman was cooperating with congressional investigators. Mueller’s bad-asses persuaded a judge to give them permission to pick the door lock. That way, they could break into the premises in the wee hours, while Manafort and his wife were in bed sleeping. They proceeded to secure the premises — of a man they are reportedly investigating for tax and financial crimes, not gang murders and Mafia hits — by drawing their guns on the stunned couple, apparently to check their pajamas for weapons.
