Supreme Court strikes down sex
offender social media ban

Associated Press, by Mark Sherman

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 6/19/2017 1:53:40 PM

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court struck down a North Carolina law Monday that bars convicted sex offenders from Facebook, Twitter and other popular sites. The justices ruled unanimously in favor of North Carolina resident Lester Packingham Jr. His Facebook boast about beating a traffic ticket led to his conviction for violating a 2008 law aimed at keeping sex offenders off internet sites children might use. The court rejected the state’s argument that the law deals with the virtual world in the same way that states keep sex offenders out of playgrounds and other places children visit.

I actually agree with this. The Constitution doesn´t say we forfeit our right to political speech just because we have been convicted of a crime. If the goobernment can limit political speech due to a particular crime, then it can limited political speech with any crime. Sexual predators are despicable to be sure. And we as a society must do all that is possible to protect children. But eliminating rights isn´t the way to do that cause it opens the door to limit all our rights. One can imagine Chicago making it a crime to be on Facebook after being convicted of having obtained an unregistered illegal firearm. Or making it illegal to be on twitter after being arrested at an anti-abortion protest. Limiting free speech is an attack on all our rights to free political speech.

The Supremes are the only group of Judges in America that I know of who don´t always have a clue when it comes to the virtual world of the internet, or to how to protect kids from the deviants of the world.

They really need to get a clue and get up to speed. Free speech is something to protect certainly. But that should not give predators the right to prowl where the young hang out.

Unilateral SCOTUS judicial review of state law is unConstitutional, period. Marbury v Madison is what must be "nullified". SCOTUS can (and should) render its opinion on the matter, but should then remand it back to the state or federal legislature responsible for it.

There is a world of difference between a burglar or a car thief or an embezzler and a sexual predator who uses the internet to find victims.

“It’s a bellwether for what the Democratic Party is going to be about,” Democratic National Committee boss Tom Perez boasted. That was back in March and the Dems had just begun their frantic spending spree in Georgia’s Sixth. By the time it was over, Jon Ossoff, an awkward immature hipster who didn’t even live in the district, had raised $23.6 million and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had burned through another $5 million. Other groups threw in around $2.6 million to achieve absolutely nothing. $31 million had been spent and wasted on history’s most expensive congressional election. And the Dem

Two stories keep circling in my head: the first details how the majority of Donald Trump’s voters still support the president overwhelmingly. The second is how the Democrats keep campaigning against Trump and losing. (Snip)Yet, GOP leadership seems incapable of comprehending this fact. Further, the congressional Republicans, despite having a firm grip on power in both chambers, are content to allow the Democrats to continue challenging the Trump White House at every turn. Trump’s message was simple: make America great again. From that, he built a coalition of conservative voters and former blue-collar Democrats, to overcome the other candidates. More importantly,

A feminist magazine is calling on all white women to “do their part to prevent white supremacy” and abort their white babies. This is sick beyond words. The feminist Medusa Magazine reported: In a progressive society, it is often white families that stand in the way of equality and justice. Systemic white supremacy depends, first and foremost, on the white family unit. When white conquerors forcefully penetrated the indigenous, egalitarian homeland of the Native peoples of America, they were quick to replicate their white societies, initiating their parasitism by establishing white plantations, headed by white fathers, submissive white mothers, and,

We should have contempt for Islamic State terrorists who behead Americans, burn people alive in cages and systematically rape Yazidi girls. But we should not have contempt for each other. Yet, we do.
