NYC loses $1.6B by returning to

The expiration of mayoral control of city schools could cost the city up to $1.6 billion over 10 years — and the city would go after the state for the bill, according to a memo from de Blasio administration officials. Deputy Mayor Anthony Shorris estimates that scrapping mayoral control and going back to the old system of local school boards would cost between $125 million and $160 million a year. Costs would soar because under the old system, there were more than 6,000 employees doing administrative jobs across 38 community and high school districts in 2002, not counting central staff. The city slashed

“Mayor de Blasio has utterly failed New York kids. That’s the only reason we’re having this discussion. Democrats and Republicans in the Legislature support the idea of mayoral control.”

That´s odd, de Blankmind hasn´t failed at anything else.

My niece teaches in the Bronx. She wants to work for the teachers´ union. Her take is that the administration (and dumbbell teachers) do things that make it more difficult to teach the students. It is also a part of the world where learning and education are not valued. (We don´t know why she stays there.)

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, made clear he would not approve leaks like ex-FBI Director James Comey’s release of personal notes on discussions with President Trump. Rosenstein discussed the Comey controversy and the overall Russia probe led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller during the extensive interview, set to air Wednesday evening on Fox News’ “The Story.” And he had tough words when asked about Comey’s recent admission that he used a friend at Columbia University to get a memo he penned on a discussion with Trump leaked to The New York

WASHINGTON — So it’s a few days before the election last November — just a few more days, surely, before Donald J. Trump would return to his golden tower to start a niche TV venture and fill a sagging Twitter feed with exclamation-pointed despair — and a book agent goes to his client with an idea: How about something on the Trump White House That Wasn’t? The writer — Steve Israel, then a Democratic congressman from New York, now at work on his third political satire — whips up a proposal, “Trumplandia.” Plot lines include a furtive meeting with President

President Donald Trump´s top legislative priority was dealt a potentially fatal blow Monday night as two more Republican senators announced their opposition to the party´s health care overhaul. Trump quickly called on Republicans to simply repeal Obamacare and begin work on a new health care plan, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced he would try to do so. “Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful," McConnell said. The Kentucky Republican said he planned to hold a vote in the coming days to take up the House-passed bill to

In March alone, San Francisco collected more than 13,000 syringes, compared with only about 2,900 in the same month in 2016. People, often children, risk getting stuck by

The recent reversal of Sheldon Silver’s corruption conviction by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit confirms the point I’ve been making for months about President Trump: his actions, as controversial as they may be, do not fit the definition of “corruption,” as that vague word is used in federal statutes. My critics have argued for an extraordinarily broad definition of corruption capable of being expanded to fit nearly everything Trump has done — from firing FBI Director James Comey, to asking him to consider dropping the investigation of General Michael Flynn, to his son’s meeting with Russian

But though USA Today’s reviewer praised it too, he couldn’t resist giving it a little rap on the knuckles about its shameful lack of diversity and equality: The trio of timelines can be
