Amazon and Whole Foods: An
Organic Affluenza Experience

Breitbart California, by Samuel Chi

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 6/18/2017 12:27:27 PM

“Would you like a side of kale with that cellphone battery?” That sounds like an inquiry coming from your Alexa in the not-so-distant future as Amazon.com is set to purchase organic supermarket Whole Foods for $13.7 billion. The acquisition will firmly move the online retail behemoth into the realms of both the brick-and-mortar business as well as grocery. Amazon will gain over 460 stores nationwide — including more than 80 in the state of California. And its presence will put major pressure on other groceries as Amazon is expected to use its considerable online retail muscle to create a giant network of

One would think Breitbart Texas would be reporting on this story. That’s home to WF, the place where it was founded and is headquartered.

The premise may sound great to the marketing people but until the real world experience is smoothed out a lot more than exists here and now, for my money it´s questionable what Amazon found so interesting.

Living in Southern California for many years the best grocery shopping for me was at Gelson´s in Northridge. Their problem was shared parking with ten or more unrelated establishments. It was also inconvenient to even get into the parking lot. So I went to the nearest store with the biggest parking lot and Gelson´s went belly up!!

Now I´m in Tempe and my favorite grocery has several years of data on my shopping. Looking over their online grocery shopping list it became clear to me that the list had everything I ever bought there. Past experience as far as I´m concerned is exactly the right criteria for the list. Amazon, unless they have access to my shopping record, does not have that data as far as Whole Foods is concerned. I wonder what it was about Whole Foods that sounded so enticing to Amazon? They seem to be starting off several years behind.

I was never a fan of any kind of WF and never will be. I´m a big fan of regular neighborhood grocers that are not foo-foo-fee-fee Cliquish which is what WF reminds me of. The beautiful people shop and drop the name of the place they buy their foo-foo-fee-fee foods. Haven´t been there in decades! I like it like that.

Amazon has never turned a profit. Many have tried to do "home shopping groceries" without success. Look for Amazon to slip on the banana peel on this one.

Re #1, Gelson’s failed mightily in Pasadena, where high end grocers - Jurgensen’s (family-owned, now defunct), Bristol Farms (still operating in South Pasadena) have gone strong for a long time. Gelson’s was too “San Fernando Valley” for conservative Pasadena and San Marino.

We have something interesting near us. A former Japanese-run produce market closed. Started by his father years ago, the son finally got fed up and retired. The site stood empty. Now it’s been taken over by another Asian chain of smallish boutique organic markets. Fish, meat, produce. Horrifically expensive, but we have very wealthy Asians in our present area, east of Pasadena. Luxury cars of every description fill our parking lots. Their kids get Maseratis and other foreign performance cars for their high school graduations. It will be interesting to see how this little market does.

FTA; “‘The 40,000-square-foot market as we know it is a dinosaur,’ Phil Lempert, the food trends editor for NBC’s Today, told the San Francisco Chronicle.”

Did Lempert inadvertently let the true goal slip? Is Amazon only buying Whole Foods for the distribution network? The article stated that Whole Foods was on the market because it could not compete with the big chains, as well as difficulty up against Trader Joe’s. How long will Amazon, who knows nothing of the brick-and-mortar business model, hang onto stores that are losing money? I’ll bet within the first year of the merger there will be store-closing announcements.

What Would a Fair Transgender

President Trump’s announcement via Twitter last week that he would discontinue administrative directives ordering the armed forces to accommodate transgender men and women in the military has met with an all-too-predictable response.(Snip)What can we say about the plan to revoke Obama-era transgender policy? For one thing, it violates no one’s “rights.” Transgender people continue to possess all of the rights of their fellow citizens, but there is no “right” to serve in the military. The military rejects many people based on physical and psychological conditions. Second, we are not talking about changing a longstanding policy. Opening service to transgenders was

DHS: Obama Gave Work Permits

The Department of Homeland Security has released data showing how former President Barack Obama gave work permits to roughly 2.3 million migrants for U.S. jobs in 2016. The award of 2.3 million work permits was added to the 2016 inflow of roughly 1.1 million new legal immigrants and roughly 500,000 outsourcing visa workers, such as the H-1B white-collar workers. The combined inflow delivered 4 million legal foreign workers to Americans’ economy in 2016, just as 4 million young Americans turned 18 and began looking for decently paid jobs. From 2012 to 2016, Obama boosted this little-recognized work-permit inflow by 73

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) introduced legislation Monday aimed at nullifying state-level gun controls that exceed gun controls put in place by the federal government. New York’s SAFE Act (2013) is a prime example of the kind of gun control Collins hopes to erase. WKBW reports Collins’ bill is titled the Second Amendment Guarantee Act (SAGA), and its language explicitly “[limits] the authority of states to regulate conduct, or impose penalties or taxes in relation to rifles or shotguns.” It is designed to catch laws that go beyond federal statutes and render them void.
