Immigrants across the country are staying home from school, skipping work and putting off shopping trips today to show how vital they are to the US economy and way of life. ´A Day Without Immigrants´ protests are planned in major cities including Philadelphia, Washington, Boston, Houston, Chicago and New York. The movement gained momentum on social media and by word of mouth. It comes in response to President Donald Trump, whose administration has pledged to increase the deportation of immigrants living in the country illegally. Trump campaigned on building a wall along the US-Mexico border, and blamed high unemployment on
Why not a Day without Americans? Our soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, the Baltic states, Poland, South Korea and other places most Americans can´t find on a map would stand down for 24 hours after formal announcements that "You, your family and your country are on your own. Defend it! At least for a day."
I go to the post office several times a week for my business and about 95% of the time the person behind the counter is a HIspanic woman. She wasn´t there today. I wonder if the Feds are allowing their immigrant employees to stay home. If so, this is one more thing that President Trump needs to clean up.
Just got back from Aldi. I noticed traffic was pretty light. The store was not very busy. Got to the checkout & a 60ish white woman was commenting to the cashier how quiet it was, how everyone was out marching, and everyone should be doing so. The checker said the tortilla delivery man wasn´t delivering today. I so wanted to confront the customer, but better judgement prevailed. Actually, it was quite pleasant shopping today...a day without ILLEGAL immigrants.
As usual MSM is trying to confuse illegal and legal immigration. We L-Dotters are basically OK with legal. We all are descended from immigrants. Yes this includes the "native Americans" (no such critter in my book - they came from somewhere else as well). It´s the ILLEGAL that sticks. Shouldn´t be here, got no legal right to be here, should be sent back ASAP.
Lol, notice the cities. All democratic strong holds where the zombie populations are the highest. Cities where these idiots could care less about disrupting people´s lives and causing traffic jams. These are the bottom feeders of Obama´s army of protesters. Think about it, nobody ever said that foreign-born workers weren´t vital. Its fake news again, its democrats taking advantage of the low information voter base. Got it.
The family of Seth Rich, a staffer for the Democratic National Committee who was murdered last July in Washington, D.C., has launched a crowdfunding page to raise money for investigating the unsolved case. Aaron Rich, the brother of the victim, created the GoFundMe page on Sunday to draw attention to the unsolved crime that took place July 10 in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Northwest D.C. and raise $200,000. "One thing that no one tells you, and something we weren´t prepared to hear when we lost Seth, is that if a case isn´t solved immediately, it could take months or years before
A moment of levity snuck into Tuesday´s confirmation hearing for Neil Gorsuch, President Trump´s nominee for the Supreme Court, when a Republican senator brought up a beloved science fiction comedy "The Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy." Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, asked Gorsuch, "what is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything?" — a topic which Cruz said Gorsuch has some familiarity. Gorsuch´s answer was "42." The question is a reference to the "Hitchhiker´s Guide," in which a supercomputer built by aliens spends 7.5 million years contemplating the answer to that question. While the computer, known
Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. on Tuesday said he and his estranged wife Sandi Jackson are $1.8 million in debt thanks to legal bills from their federal criminal prosecution and mounting fees from an acrimonious divorce playing out in courtrooms in two cities. Jackson Jr. talked to reporters during an at-times rambling question-and-answer session following a brief hearing in his divorce case at the Daley Center, opining on the state of Washington politics and the best way to settle the couple’s bills. Neither Jackson nor his wife, former alderman Sandi Jackson, has worked since their release from prison after serving sentences
Students at the University of Notre Dame have reacted strongly to the announcement that Vice President Mike Pence will serve as this year’s commencement speaker. University President John Jenkins announced the decision to host Pence as the speaker at this year’s graduation event in a press release. Jenkins stated that it “is fitting that in the 175th year of our founding on Indiana soil that Notre Dame recognize a native son who served our state and now the nation with quiet earnestness, moral conviction and a dedication to the common good characteristic of true statesmen.” Although there have been no calls
A group known for its successes fighting digital wars, notably net neutrality, is offering $15,000 to activists who quit their jobs and form "A-Teams" to jump into a war on President Trump´s agenda. Fight for the Future, started in 2011 as a digital activist group, on Monday issued the offer with this eye-catching opening: "Terrified about Trump? Quit your job, start an A-Team. We´ll fund it." "We´re currently taking applications for an initial launch of the project, and will be providing a few select teams with funding, guidance, and support," said Evan Greer, campaign director for Fight for the Future.
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzeinski spoke to Variety for an interview (out today) about their relationship with the Trump White House and Brzezinski recently deciding to ban Kellyanne Conway from Morning Joe. When asked about that decision, Brzezinski said she doesn’t think anyone should be having the White House counselor on anymore: I feel even more so that everyone should ban her. I’m surprised that these little acrobatic games are played with her on live national television. I think it denigrates what we do. It’s clear she doesn’t bring anything to the table. It’s clear she doesn’t know exactly what
As a member of The Daily Signal team, I took offense to The Washington Post’s recent questioning of our “legitimacy” as a news organization. The Washington Post began its story stating that, “In an age of partisan media, the lines between ‘partisan’ and ‘media’ can sometimes blur.” I wonder if the reporter has taken a look at just how partisan some of our country’s media behemoths actually are. Here is a summary of the ownership, lobbying, and political contributions of several of America’s largest media companies. ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Co., which has spent over $70 million
Judge Neil Gorsuch lamented the politicization of the Supreme Court nomination process during Tuesday´s Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. Facing questions from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., about a "dark money" campaign to boost his bid for the high court, Gorsuch sounded distraught about the politicization of his nomination. He noted a previous judge coming before the committee was able to smoke cigarettes during his hearing. "There´s a great deal about the process I regret," Gorsuch said. "I regret putting my family through this." Gorsuch´s wife sat directly behind Gorsuch as he made the remarks as she did for the first day
Companies that help to build President Trump´s controversial border wall could be banned from doing business with San Francisco. Local left-wing politicians will introduce the legislation on Tuesday, in a bill similar to several proposals cropping up around the country. Supervisor Hillary Ronen and Supervisor Aaron Peskin have proposed the ban in order to ´fight´ for the values they ´hold most dear´. (Photos) The bill would ban companies that apply to work on the wall during the bidding period, regardless of whether they actually get a contract. ´It is time to move beyond symbolism and use the power we have
Dissident Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) officials created a digital “Forum of Hate” (FOH) using highly offensive email texts against an agency whose upper management they viewed as worried only about getting bonuses for themselves and whose workforce they considered degraded by excessive Affirmative Action hiring. The high-level employees on the FOH included attorneys, administrative law judges (ALJs) and managers who sent dozens of inflammatory emails per day using their government email accounts, then complained about how they had to work late. The previously unreported emails occurred in 2015, according to a draft report prepared by the inspector general (IG).
On the first day of confirmation hearings for Federal Appeals Court Judge Neil Gorsuch to be named as a Supreme Court Justice, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) reminded the Democrats, who one after another criticized the nominee, that during his confirmation hearing a decade ago for the federal seat he holds now, not one Democrat — including Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama — voted against Gorsuch. “A decade ago, Judge Gorsuch was confirmed by this committee for the Federal Court of Appeals by a voice vote,” Cruz said. “He was likewise confirmed by the entire United States Senate by a
President Trump put NASA on course for deep space exploration Tuesday, signing a bill that authorizes $19.5 billion in funding to revive the agency’s manned-space flight program and plan missions to Mars and beyond. Mr. Trump spoke of the renewal of NASA’s mission, including development of new spacecraft and preparation for a mars mission, in historic terms. “Almost half a century ago our brave astronauts first planted the American flag on the moon. That was a big moment in our history,” he said at an Oval Office signing ceremony. “Now this nation is ready to be the first in space once
Fox News has indefinitely removed contributor Andrew Napolitano from its programming, following an unsubstantiated claim he made on air last week and that was refuted by U.S. intelligence officials, according to a report. The Los Angeles Times reported Monday that Napolitano has not made any appearances on Fox since last Thursday. Citing an anonymous source, the paper said Napolitano "is not expected to be on Fox News Channel any time in the near future." The Washington Examiner has asked a Fox spokesperson for confirmation of the report. Napolitano last week tried to bolster President Trump´s own previous and unfounded claim
California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters said that she´s ready to impeach President Trump on his 61st day in office. "Get ready for impeachment," Waters tweeted. (Tweet) It´s unknown if Waters was referring to a specific reason to impeach Trump or was just making a general statement. The tweet comes a day after FBI Director James Comey revealed the bureau is looking into any possible contacts between Trump´s campaign and the Russian influence campaign on the presidential campaign. The intelligence community has reported in the past The Kremlin worked against Hillary Clinton´s election and developed a preference for Trump.
On the same day that President Trumps´ favoribility rating sank to an all-time low, a new poll found that a majority of young Americans view his presidency as illegitimate. Fifty-seven percent of adults age 18 to 30 believe that President Trump is an ´illegitimate´ leader according to a GenForward poll conducted by the Black Youth Project at the University of Chicago with The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Among young adults of color, 74 percent of African Americans and 71 percent of Latinos/as view Trump´s presidency as ´illegitimate´, while a majority of whites (53 percent) view Trump as a ´legitimate´
The Secret Service will permanently remove a top special agent from her position after an investigation into her Facebook comments that she would rather not defend President Trump or take "a bullet" from him, but some agents are concerned she will simply be transferred to another government job. About two weeks ago, the Secret Service placed the agent´s prior post — the special agent in charge of the Denver District, the top job in that office — on a list of agency openings, according to two Secret Service sources. Kerry O´Grady, the agent in question, is on administrative leave Please proofread before posting
Professor Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (shown) wants to take us back to the Stone Age — literally. In a March 15 interview with the German newspaper Deutsche Welle, the German physicist declared that global warming is so serious that not only must we all give up the use of coal and our internal combustion vehicles in the next 13 years, but we must also ditch concrete and steel — for “wood, clay and stone.” If we don’t do this, along with other drastic measures, we are headed toward planetary warming of “4, 5, 6 or even 12 degrees,” he claims. This
Less than 24 hours after meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to criticize Germany for not keeping up with its defense payments to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the United States. “Despite what you have heard from the FAKE NEWS, I had a GREAT meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel,” Trump wrote in a tweet March 18. “Nevertheless, Germany owes vast sums of money to NATO & the United States must be paid more for the powerful, and very expensive, defense it provides to Germany!” Trump has repeatedly called on NATO member countries to contribute

Chelsea Clinton and a select group of women will be honored next month in New York as Variety’s Lifetime Impact Honorees for humanitarian work. Variety magazine and the Lifetime television network will pay tribute on April 21 to Mrs. Clinton and five other women for their philanthropic endeavors. The 37-year-old will attend the Power of Women: New York luncheon with fellow honorees Jessica Chastain, Gayle King, Blake Lively, Audra McDonald, and Shari Redstone. “At the heart of New York City is a vibrant community of strong women in entertainment, media, and politics whose commitment to philanthropy is inspirational,” said Michelle Sobrino Stearns,
Several Senate Democrats were unified in deriding originalism as a judicial philosophy during Monday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to Supreme Court justiceship Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), ranking Democrat of the committee, described originalism as a "very troubling” jurisprudential approach. The Framers, she added, intended for the Constitution to be continuously reinterpreted over time (emphasis added): “Judge Gorsuch has also stated that he believes judges should look to the original public meaning of the Constitution when they decide what a provision of the Constitution means. This is personal, but I find this originalist judicial
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Trump spent seven hours this weekend at Trump International Golf Club here, where a crisp breeze and cloudless skies beckoned golf lovers to the manicured 27-hole course.Did he play any golf?“Very little,” Mr. Trump told reporters traveling with him on Sunday on Air Force One back to Washington, recounting what he said had been a busy weekend of meetings to sell the health care bill and strategize about the nuclear threat from North Korea. The White House refused to provide any details.
South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham on Tuesday questioned Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch about what it would take to impeach President Trump. (Snip) "In case President Trump is watching, which he may very well be, one you did a good job picking Judge Gorsuch," Graham said to laughs, "and number two—here´s the bad part—if you start waterboarding people, you may get impeached. Is that a fair summary?" "Senator, the impeachment power belongs to this body," Gorsuch answered.
Representative Elise M. Stefanik is a young, freshman republican congresswoman from the Albany New York area. And using a probative questioning timeline, she single-handily pulled the mask from FBI Director James Comey, yet no-one seemed to notice. Obviously Ms. Stefanik has not been in the swamp long enough to lose her common sense. (Photos) In the segment of the questioning below Rep. Stefanik begins by asking director Comey what are the typical protocols, broad standards and procedures for notifying the Director of National Intelligence, the White House and senior congressional leadership (aka the intelligence Gang of Eight), when the FBI
