A black president couldn’t
stop the Ferguson race riots

Telegraph [UK], by Tim Stanley

Original Article

Posted By:Attercliffe, 8/18/2014 8:28:03 AM

Violence continues in Ferguson, Missouri. It began on August 9 with the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager cut down by a white cop’s bullets. Peaceful demonstrations turned into looting, the local police went in with rubber bullets and tear gas, all hell broke loose and, eventually, Missouri’s governor pulled out the local police and sent in state officers instead. But the rioting only paused; it didn’t cease. [Snip] Observers might ask, “How can this be happening in an America that has elected a black president?” How can black kids still get killed by white cops and how

Comments:
Click and read on for two important reasons:

1. Stanley compliments Jonah G, describing him as a"highly respected" conservative writer and quoting a remark he made on the Ferguson farago; and

2. Stanley provides some extremely damning statistics which we rarely, if ever, see. You want material to bring home your points? This is where you´ll find some good, solid examples.

"Why has electing a black president not changed all of this? One answer is that while Obama is a president who is black, he has never sold himself as an expressly black president..."

Say what? Maybe he hasn´t sold himself as such, but his comments and actions speak otherwise. Open your eyes, Tim.

I expect many more riots in many more cities as long as Obama´s philosophy is ruling the black neighborhoods. I don´t think the author grasps the depth of the problems.

why would he even try to stop the riots, they fit his agenda perfectly. If you haven´t read Kareem´s piece on the race war to come you should. Fifty years of the Great Society, Affirmative action etc have accomplished nothing positive and in fact are resented as failures because blacks are still in poverty and it´s all the fault of the white race. If you´re white you´re guilty period...

The black community should heal itself - Black leaders should tell the hip-hoppers to pull up their pants, quit talking smack, get a job and marry their girlfriends before they get them pregnant.

Until that happens, the situation will only get worse.

For the record, I´m not holding my breath that this will happen anytime soon.

That Jonah Goldberg is a highly respected conservative writer?

No, absolutely not kidding.

That the article contains some rarely-seen statistics useful for discussions?

No, not kidding. (You may have a different purpose for which to use said statistics; total agreement with Stanley doesn´t have to be one of them. Keep the baby, chuck the bathwater.)

A few things need to happen before Ferguson can hire more black cops. Blacks have to apply, they can´t have an extensive arrest record and they have to meet some basic qualifications--like education of some sort.

Bottom line:Our Black President and his wife and our AG are racists. They want the chaos to happen and use it politically to get the Black vote and power for themselves. They know that the Blacks in the cities don´t really understand that they are being exploited by the President and the Al Sharpton´s. It will continue to get worse before it gets better if the Black Panther´s and the racist Blacks don´t back off.

From the first riots in 1960´s until today, rioters demand and are rewarded with amnesty for breaking the law. Until they are held accountable, it will not end.

About a year ago a white KC firefighter was killed on his wedding night by an off duty cop, did the white people of KC riot? Did his fellow firefighters loot local stores? No, they didn´t, because unlike the thugs in MO they don´t live to destroy.

Until and unless the black culture arrives at the point that it doesn’t regard hard work and education as being too white or square, you’ll still be reading the same lopsided numbers, and no welfare effort will help anything but make it worse. Today there are many highly successful blacks, but they are a small minority. Every one of them works hard at what they do (excepting our presidente role model).

Funny how answers are so simple for liberals.
Detroit is a burned out war zone because... Racism. Blacks murder each other by the hundreds in Chicago because...racism. Blacks destroy black-owned businesses in Ferguson because...a robbery suspect got shot...because, racism.

What rubbish.
Chinese were brought here, worked demeaning jobs for slave wages, in appalling conditions, for a generation or two. They formed communities, families, started businesses, got educations, and have become extremely successful. Despite prejudicial name calling, different color skin. Italians came here by the boatloads, with nothing, worked sweatshops in appalling conditions, formed families, businesses, and did well. Despite being called names and discriminated against. More recently, Vietnamese immigrants came with nothing, not even a language in common with their new home. different color skin, different customs, dressed funny....plucked chickens, swept foundry floors, and did spectacularly well. They insisted that their kids do well in school, did chores, joined churches, obeyed the law. A generation is all it took.

So, why, since other ethnic groups have done so very well, despite hardships and economic deprivation, and cultural differences, do blacks continue to tolerate their criminal subculture´s attempts to revert to a tribal jungle? Generation after generation, job preferences, welfare, free this and that handouts...what will it take? How many generations to civilize this people?

Regarding the comment by #5, Kareem indicts himself since he is clearly a member of the top 1%. Kareem has no basis for blaming the 1%, whoever they are, for all the racial problems that exist in the US. It certainly is not the fault of those so-called 1% that many of the low income Americans did not choose to get an education when they each had nearly two decades of opportunities to do so.

Surely Kareem is not suggesting that basketball and his height are the only reasons he is a member of the 1% and not an uneducated member of the poor in our nation.

The stats are shocking. But it isn´t the system that is to blame, it´s the Democrat Party, a goal of which is to destroy the black family, which leads to a lack of male influence in the household, a lack of cohesiveness of the family unit, and the use of abortion as birth control. It also makes them wards of the Democrat Party and thus a perpetual voting bloc (until blacks figure out that it is really Democrats who keep them on the plantation, not whites.)

I found this comment amazingly dull-witted:

All of this is made worse by a police and judicial system that seems not just imbalanced against blacks but actually designed to put more of them in prison.

Of course it´s "imbalanced" because a disproportionate number of blacks commit crimes and those crimes tend to be more violent than crimes whites commit.

More to the point is why blacks commit more crimes than whites: You cannot blame their crime rate on poverty, as would have us do. Poverty doesn´t create criminals. Talk to any poor black who made it out of the ghetto and to success in white America.

Ironically, the black culture is one of excess. There is too much emphasis on expensive "things" rather than on education. There is too much sexual activity rather than restraint. There is too much profanity and not enough sanctity. There is a culture of death rather than life. There is too much coarseness rather than decency.

I want to know how this gets fixed other than Stanley´s vapid solution, as follows:

But what he [Obama] was never going to be was someone who would confront racism head on or seek a substantial redistribution of power and money of the variety that many civil rights leaders feel is necessary to help the poor.

No, he never did "confront racism head on". He perpetuated it behind closed doors by encouraging criminal behavior not just by blacks in his own Administration (Susan Rice, Holder, Jarrett et al) but in the black community by allowing Holder to say that black-on-white crimes will not be prosecuted. That is a checkered flag.

The statement that Obama didn´t "seek a substantial redistribution of power and money" is bizarre: That is the first thing he said he wanted to do before he was elected. He has continued his attempts to do just that. Has Mr. Stanley been paying attention?

How does a POTUS confront racism head on? He could be a real leader and tell his own people that he will not tolerate rioting nor will he tolerate people who go around the law. He can´t do that, though, because his own DOJ is doing exactly that. So are the New Black Panthers, which Obama could "confront head on" by disavowing their tactics.

Has he? He wouldn´t dare; it doesn´t fit his plan to destroy America´s tranquility and strength and to exacerbate racial tensions in order to create chaos. To confront the NBPs would be to risk being called an Oreo, and he doesn´t want that. He needs those black zombie votes.

Obama and his DOJ have given the green light to blacks in America to do as they please to get back what they were deliberately led to believe is being stolen from them.

This is Reparations, and this is why "a black president couldn´t stop the Ferguson race riots." He simply doesn´t want to.

This will be Obama´s legacy...that rather than being a post-racial President, he in fact became our most racial President. Everything he and his partner in crime (literally), Holder, have done has made race relations in this country infinitely worse. It will take generations to repair the damage they have done.

OP, useful article for the stats and scope. Thanx. I do, however, have a criticism for Mr. Stanley and a question for Mr. Goldberg.

Stanley writes: "When Trayvon Martin was shot dead by vigilante George Zimmerman...." VIGILANTE?! Bias there, methinks.

And he quotes "Jonah Goldberg, a highly respected Right-wing columnist (why not just "highly respected"?)...´the idea that police forces shouldn’t take into account the racial or ethnic make-up of their communities when it comes to hiring [is] bizarre.´”

Jonah, is it probable that the majority of public school "educated" blacks couldn´t pass the police entrance exams? Of course, we could then lower the requirements. That would surely lead to a better police force.

11 million. 14 million. 20 million. No one really knows how many illegal aliens are in the United States. And how many millions of them are sucking up unskilled, temporary, part time, and entry level jobs that American citizens, black and white, so desperately need to support themselves and their families, or to gain the job experience needed to move up the ladder? High black unemployment? Illegal immigration hurts black Americans the most because so many blacks are at the bottom of the ladder. How or why they are at the bottom makes little difference if the very way TO the ladder is blocked by five illegal Mexicans.

Amnesty is the litmus test in 2014 and 2016. Any candidate who has EVER been for amnesty (code words – “pathway to citizenship”) is disqualified. The rallying cry should be “Deport Now!”

Well I´m going to do my part in the racial agitation business. I haven´t watched even one pro baseball game this year. The same for pro basketball. Track and field is off my personal agenda and so is Midnight Basketball.

Pro football is out. I´m tired of reading about bar fights, gay players and wife beaters. In fact, all sports sold by the media is out. The exception is Pro Golf, a mostly non team sport in the Pro area. The men wear pants and the ladies wear shorts and mini skirts. What is not to like.

Why doesn´t Obama take some time off from playing on the privileged white enclave of Martha´s Vineyard and take Michelle and the girls to Ferguson ?
They could walk the streets and see first hand how their supporters live .
Sasha and Malia could interact with their fellow black teens.
Dorian Johnson and Malia could discuss their teen angst.
Michelle in her thousand dollar shoes could empathize
with the mothers in public housing.
The healing in Ferguson could finally begin with the blessings and presence of the Obamas.
As George Bush was roundly criticized for not personally visiting New Orleans after Katrina ,
the same should hold for Barry.
Especially since he claims to identify with the plight of average black folks.

No doubt there would be more blacks in law enforcement if there were more qualified blacks interested in law enforcement. Too many in the black community view "working for the man" as a betrayal and too few have the rudimentary skills and abilities required for the job.

Communities like Ferguson rot from within. We can not change their character or culture from without.

Most of this column is claptrap, not in the least bit "excellent."

They could care less about the facts in a case, but would rather have race pimps like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton giving them the go-ahead to act like stupid idiots.
I was never racist in my life until Obama got elected but now I resent the attitude of the trouble makers that commit the crimes, yet complain because so many of their darlings are in jail What are we supposed to do with them? Can someone answer that?

First Blacks should overcome the concept that we owe them a living plus free reign socially because their ancestors were slaves.
Americans did not ply the slave trade the same way the black slavers did -- selling their own race for profit.
American people thought they were fighting to grant former slaves normal civil rights-- nothing was included granting them a free ride for life.
The article mentioned black business owners were making strides-- of course they were until the envy looting ruined all they put together.
As to encouraging riots and sestruction -- what a way to dish out a little terrorism

This one´s pretty easy actually. The simple answer is that racism pays and pays well! If the concept of racism vaporized off the planet today, there would be one heck of a lot of people outta work tomorrow!
The election of a Black President spelled the end of racism and Blacks weren´t about to lose their massive, half-century long meal-ticket-government-train-ride of welfare and entitlements!
Gotta keep racism alive and well in order to keep the spigot open... and besides, division works to the advantage of a commie-organizer creating unrest and chaos to weaken America any way possible!
There never was any intention to resolve race issues, only to fan the flames. People like sharpton, jackson and the Obamboozler are walking proof of hoe to make a career off "racism".

FTA- “How can this be happening in an America that has elected a black president?” The writer´s reasoning is complete hogwash, exhibiting a profound ignorance of what has gone on in this country for the last decade. We on the other hand live here and cannot afford to be far removed from reality. 0bama´s way to power was cleared precisely so he may exploit racial divisiveness in a manner not possible for a white chief executive. And he has done it very effectively and ruthlessly. It is not a question of he couldn´t stop it. He does not WANT to stop it.

Why didn´t Brown simply follow the officer´s instructions and quit walking in the street in traffic. So if Wilson had just fired say two bullets into the kid as Brown charged him, everyone would be happy? Unfortunately for Brown, his challenging authority in this particular case and the manner in which he challenged this authority cost him his life. I wasn´t there but what else was Wilson supposed to do? How do you suppose Brown would have behaved if a black officer would have given him the same instructions to get off the street?

Excellent points, #17. Chinese, Italians, Poles, Vietnamese were at some level of civilization when they were brought to America, many even ahead of Americans. They could relate to the American way of life and quickly learned that it was to their advantage to work hard and to assimilate into the culture while still retaining their values.

Blacks were at some level of the Stone Age when they were taken out of Africa. The level is unknown because the era lasted about three and a half million years. The spear, their principal weapon, was in use for most of that period. Very few African tribes had progressed beyond stone and bone tools or practiced agriculture. Being dragged into the future obviously took its toll. Some have assimilated very well and have made remarkable contributions to society, while some, as demonstrated by many of the people in Ferguson, LA, Detroit, etc. will never get there. Maybe their best choice is to return and mature.

The presenter yesterday said the violent protest was ´state-organised´ accusing the Argentinians of taking advantage of their visit for ´political capital´.

I’m always sceptical when I hear scare-mongering claims about diseases. From bird flu to SARS, we’re repeatedly told it’s going to be the new Plague that will wipe everyone out and then…it doesn’t. Probably because the scare-mongering itself makes people take it seriously enough to prevent it spreading. But there is something very sinister and frightening about this Ebola outbreak, which has so far infected 7,100 and killed 3,300. [Snip] It’s hard to think of a more cack-handed, dangerously inept response than what transpired in Dallas. Consider what we now know: Thomas Eric Duncan, a 42-year-old Liberian citizen, had been

Health experts assembled by the White House conceded on Friday that a second case of Ebola could be identified in the U.S. But they defiantly insisted that the epidemic plaguing western Africa will not rise to the level of a major American outbreak. [Snip] But the overall feeling of the sparsely attended afternoon press conference was one of complacency, with the Obama administration´s top Ebola spear-catchers saying over and over that Americans have nothing to fear even though the government has no plans to close airports to planes originating in at the disease´s ground-zero.

Health officials have admitted their response to the potential Ebola outbreak in Texas has been ‘rocky’--amid growing concern over how a patient with the virus was able to get through customs, was initially turned away from hospital with painkllers and Hazmat teams then took five days to properly quarantine his relatives. [Snip] However, during the press conference he also said things did go right--mentioning that Thomas Eric Duncan was now in isolation and being treated properly. But he ignored the length of time of the response and the fact that hundreds of people may have been unnecessarily exposed to the

It is the stuff that nightmares are made of, and day by day it is getting worse. The Ebola epidemic, says Dr Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organisation (WHO), is now “the greatest peacetime challenge” since the Second World War. Yet her own organisation’s tardiness, partly caused by cuts, together with reductions in--and misuse of--funds elsewhere, are largely responsible for Ebola spiralling out of control. [Snip] It’s just the beginning. At present the numbers of people infected are thought to be doubling in under 30 days--and the blue-chip US Center for Disease Control and Prevention predicts that, if Ebola

It has been precisely a month since corpulent young dictator Kim Jong Un disappeared from public view, prompting frenzied speculation about his health and the state of political play in North Korea. Kim was last seen at a Sept. 3 concert, ensconced in a red easy chair next to his wife, Ri Sol Ju. Late last month, the youthful marshal was a no-show at a meeting of North Korea’s rubber-stamp legislature. The cloistered nation’s state-run TV aired images of his seat at parliament—empty. But North Korea experts say that the likeliest reason is also the simplest: That the Supreme Leader

Three US citizens are fighting in Syria, the British Daily Mail reports Friday. But unlike most foreign nationals, they are fighting against - not for - jihadists. One of the Americans has been identified as Jordan Matson (28) from Racine, Wisconsin, a spokesman for the private Pashmerga army, the Kurdish People´s Protection Units (YPG), said Thursday. Matson is a former US Army soldier now "fighting in the Jazaa area," the spokesman added - an area riddled by heavy fighting between Islamic State (ISIS) and Kurdish forces in northeast Syria. The US has not blacklisted the YPG as a terrorist organization, but it does

Hospitals across the country have been warned by the CDC about care methods regarding the Ebola virus, it has emerged. The CDC has published both an ´Algorithm for Evaluation of the Returned Traveler,´ as well as a ´Checklist for Patients Being Evaluated for Ebola Virus Diseasee (EVD) in the United States.´ Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan arrived in Dallas on September 20 to visit and fell ill a few days later. A friend of Texas Ebola patient, Thomas Duncan, who saw the sick man the day he was taken into hospital apparently ´vomiting wildly´ has described his family´s ordeal in isolation. And, shockingly, three days after CDC officials visited him in the family´s apartment, 43-year-old Aaron Yah revealed he had not received an order to remain indoors or any advice on how to cope. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Mr Yah said: ´The CDC came on Tuesday, the day it was confirmed Thomas had Ebola. They told me that the children should not go to school until 17 October.

Climate change is even deadlier than ebola according to the editor of one of the world´s oldest and most distinguished medical journals. Fiona Godlee, editor in chief of the BMJ (formerly the British Medical Journal; established 1840), claims in her latest editorial: Deaths from Ebola infection, tragic and frightening though they are, will pale into insignificance when compared with the mayhem we can expect for our children and grandchildren if the world does nothing to check its carbon emissions. And action is needed now. Not all BMJ readers will necessarily agree with this assessment, Godlee concedes: When The BMJ started publishing articles on climate

Approaching half of all terrorist plots against Britain are still hatched in Afghanistan and Pakistan 13 years after British troops were sent to the country to destroy Al Qaeda, David Cameron revealed this morning. The Prime Minister, in Kabul on an unannounced visit to meet with the country’s new unity government, said Britain had ‘paid a very high price’ for liberating Afghanistan from the Taliban--with 453 British soldiers losing their lives. Mr Cameron claimed Britain and other allies had forced Al Qaeda out the region and the number of plots originating in the region had fallen. But he admitted the

In her just-released memoir, 27 year-old "Girls" star Lena Dunham claims that as a 19 year-old Oberlin College student in Ohio, she was raped by a college Republican. In the first chapter that addresses the encounter, Dunham describes the "ill-fated evening of lovemaking" as awkward and hollow. The most sensational moment comes from the fact that "Barry" wasn´t wearing a condom. In the next chapter, Dunham backtracks with the claim that she´s an "unreliable narrator" and accuses "Barry" of rape: [I]n another essay in this book I describe a sexual encounter with a mustachioed campus Republican as the upsetting but

The spin began soon after the threat was isolated. Information was selectively leaked. Half-truths and untruths were uttered. Responsibility was avoided; privileges and credentials asserted; authority reasserted. Trust us. Remain calm. Don’t panic. This is the template of recent events. President Obama was at Northwestern University on Thursday to deliver an economic speech that, he and his team hoped, would lay out the case for why the public is better off today than they were six years ago -- even if they didn´t feel it in their everday lives. Instead, Obama just gave every Republican ad-maker in the country more fodder for negative ads linking Democratic candidates to him. Here are the four sentences that will draw all of the attention (they come more than two thirds of the way through the speech): "I am not on the ballot this

A recent fight between Rosie O´Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg has producers at The View looking to add a cool-down room for the ladies. After being cut off by Goldberg during an episode last week so the show could go to commercial, O´Donnell began to express how upset she was and, after being told repeatedly by Goldberg it was not the right time to have that discussion, eventually got cursed out by the Oscar winner. Goldberg told O´Donnell, ´F*** it, I told you to leave it alone and you just don´t want to listen. If you want to go there Rosie,

A presidential defeat isn’t an easy thing to bounce back from. And Mitt Romney did it twice. So it was understandable that after he lost the presidential race in 2012, he was adamant about closing the door to the possibility of a third campaign. But recently, speculation is whirling that Romney may not be so adamant anymore. When asked if he was running in a New York Times interview published earlier this week, Romney said : “I have nothing to add to the story. We’ve got a lot of people looking at the race,” he said. “We’ll see what happens.” That response, which

WASHINGTON — Representative Elijah E. Cummings of Maryland was at the grocery store the other day when he ran into an elderly black woman who expressed growing concern about President Obama’s safety. Why, she asked, wasn’t he being better protected by his Secret Service agents? The furor that led to this week’s resignation of the director of the Secret Service resonated deeply among blacks, outraged that those supposed to be guarding the first black president were somehow falling down on the job — and suspicious even without evidence that it may be deliberate. “It is something that is widespread in

Go to a grocery store in California and buy all the milk, eggs and vegetables you want. But there’s one thing you won’t find at the checkout line, beginning July 1, 2015: Plastic bags to carry your stuff home. Gov. Shoppers will be charged 10 cents for every paper bag and heavy-duty plastic bag they use. “This bill is a step in the right direction,” Brown said in a press release announcing his approval. “It

Speaking at a Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors event last night, Hillary Clinton decided to talk about Alexis de Tocqueville. The problem? She got it wrong -- by about a hundred years. "There´s a wonderful phrase that was first used by Alexis de Tocqueville, who came to the United States in the very early 1930s and traveled around our country," said Hillary Clinton, a probable 2016 presidential candidate. "And he was so amazed at how Americans organized themselves -- you know, coming from aristocratic Europe, which was totally top-down and hierarchical -- he couldn´t believe how many of us were joiners.
