Troubles With Veterans’ Health Care
New York Times, by Editorial

When America sends men and women to fight, it owes them an enduring debt, starting with competent and timely health care and disability benefits when they leave active duty. President Obama expressed outrage on Wednesday at recent charges of wrongdoing in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ health care system. He also dispatched his deputy chief of staff to Phoenix to assess explosive allegations that government workers falsified data to hide long wait times for veterans needing to see doctors. But expressing outrage is hardly enough for a president who, as a candidate in 2008, criticized the agency and vowed to

The Times is in serious trouble, and maybe Pinch has realized that attacking Obama rather than defending him will work better. They could actually become a newspaper instead of a mouthpiece.

This is a . . "we are very upset and we did our duty as a flagship newspaper to publish an editorial about it", episode. This will pass in a few days and the NYT will cheer loudly when Obama actually does a smidgen of "corrective actions" . . . it will take just a smidgen to recreate the hero of our times!

In an attempt to fire back at House Speaker John Boehner concerning the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) went on MSNBC Tuesday morning and had an interesting view of the Taliban, disputing that they are terrorists. Earlier, Boehner held a news conference and was critical of the fact that Congress wasn´t fully briefed on the exchange. In blasting the Obama administration, Boehner said "we´re gonna pay" for the prisoner swap, and also said it violated U.S. policy to not negotiate with terrorists.

It was the crying and pleas for help that drew Dr. John Crew to Lori Madsen´s bedside at Seton Medical Center one day in January 2012. Madsen, then 51, was several days into a terrifying case of necrotizing fasciitis - also known as flesh-eating disease. Her left arm had swollen to four times its normal size, and she´d had surgery to scrape out dead tissue. The pain was unbearable. "My arm was dying on the inside. It was extremely horrifying," said Madsen, now 53. "It wasn´t until it was all over, and I was out of the hospital that Dr.

This week, for example, they’ll be able to enjoy meatball subs, BBQ wings and ice cream, in addition to chicken curry, deviled egg salad and the “Chef’s Choice.” Other options on the exclusive menu include:

LOS ANGELES — The bodies of 28 veterans at the L.A. County Morgue were finally moved Friday for burial to the Riverside National Cemetery. CBS2/KCAL9 pressed the L.A. County Coroner’s Office Thursday to find out why the bodies had not yet received a proper burial after a source indicated there may have been as many as 60 veterans at the morgue for the past year and a half. The morgue says the bodies were unclaimed and they don’t know how long the veterans were there. The law states veterans are supposed to receive a proper burial. The Veterans Administration says

For the left, the Department of Veterans Affairs is how health care is ideally supposed to work. No insurance companies, no private doctors, no competition — just the government and the patient. Paul Krugman, The New York Times columnist, has held up the VA as a model for the entire country. The Washington Monthly ran a famous article in 2005 arguing that the VA was leading the way for U.S. health care. The socialist senator from Vermont, Bernie Sanders, is such a reflexive defender that in an instantly notorious interview on CNN he pooh-poohed the burgeoning scandal that may involve

They say they are ignored, disrespected and turned away by employees with no medical training. They say they wait months for an appointment with a primary care doctor, then wait several more months to see a specialist. The VA scandal over alleged “secret wait lists” for health care appointments, which may have contributed to the deaths of dozens of veterans whose treatment was delayed, is still unfolding. Yet the allegations at the core of the scandal are hardly new: A December 2012 report by the Government Accountability Office revealed that four VA medical centers nationwide hid wait times, fudged data and backdated appointments for the purpose of fabricating compliance with department timeliness goals. That should have served as a top-down wakeup call to clean house and bring overdue transparency and reform to what long has been viewed

The NFL draft — the league’s Radio City-staged, nationally televised, endlessly hyped off-season spectacle — opens Thursday night, and for the first time an openly gay player will be waiting for a phone call. But it could be a long wait for Michael Sam, the University of Missouri defender and all-American who came out in February. Draft analysts say he might not be selected until the last picks are made on Saturday — and perhaps not at all. If that happens, Sam could still sign with a team as an undrafted free agent and play on Sundays this fall. But

Perhaps. Facebook’s News Feed—the main list of status updates, messages, and photos you see when you open Facebook on your computer or phone—is not a perfect mirror of the world. But few users expect that Facebook would change their News Feed in order to manipulate their emotional state. We now know that’s exactly what happened two years ago. For one week in January 2012, data scientists skewed what almost 700,000 Facebook users saw when they logged into its service. Some people were shown content with a preponderance of happy and positive words; some were shown content analyzed as sadder than average.

Edward Klein’s book about the animosity between the Clintons and Obamas, “Blood Feud” (Regnery Publishing), rocketed up the best-seller charts since it was featured in The Post last Sunday. Here, in another exclusive excerpt, Klein describes how Bill’s health is a preoccupation of the Clintons. A pair of black, armor-plated SUVs swung into a suburban cul-de-sac and crunched to a stop in the driveway of the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. A wall of burly Secret Service agents jumped out and surrounded the man who emerged from the lead vehicle. It was mid-summer 2013, and Bill Clinton looked shrunken and weary.

With the news of a massive influx of immigrants on the southern border, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 22% of Americans favor increased immigration. Only 14% of Republicans, 23% of independents, and 27% of Democrats favor increased immigration. The poll actually revealed a strong desire among Americans to decrease immigration, as 41% of respondents thought immigration should be decreased. This included 50% of GOP voters, 43% of independents, and 32% of Democrats. The percentage of those preferring to decrease immigration has jumped from 35% in 2012 and 2013 to 41% in 2014. Dear Secretary Clinton, Please consider this in the nature of a friendly intervention. You have a money problem. It’s time to deal with it before it gets worse. Actually, you have two money problems. The first is how you talk about it. The second is how you collect it — or, to be more precise, the fact that you’re still frenetically collecting it. Let me be clear at the outset: The issue isn’t that you’re rich, or even that you and your husband became rich after leaving office. What transpired in the Mississippi Senate run-off is a red line for many conservatives across the country, because the Republican Party establishment essentially took a civil war and escalated it to a war for independence. It’s one thing to oppose your base in a primary. It’s entirely another to despicably play the race card against your base, and bolster the legitimacy of the propaganda of our race-baiting opponents on the Left. But that’s exactly what the Kamikaze pilots running the GOP did. As a result, Chris McDaniel won Republican voters handily on Tuesday, but still lost the run-off statewide thanks

During his two-day tour here, the president has let out his frustrations on the fourth estate for failing, in his view, to cover serious issues facing the American people and instead focusing on the frivolous. “If you watch the news, you’d think, ‘Okay, Washington is a mess and the basic attitude is that everybody’s crazy,” Obama told a crowd of 3,500 here at the Lake Harriet Band Shell.
