Bad Mom? New York’s First Lady savaged

The first lady of New York City is being trashed by the tabloids for the crime of committing honesty.Chirlane McCray dared say out loud what I’ve heard plenty of women say privately: that having a baby is frustrating and exasperating and sometimes all you want to do is bury yourself in the adult world of work. Guess what, some dads feel that way too. In a New York Magazine cover story on Mayor Bill deBlasio’s wife, Lisa Miller quoted McCray as reflecting on life after her daughter was born: "I was 40 years old; I had a life. To me, the saddest part is that her daughter Chiara is now forced to cover for her "mother" and blames her drug and alcohol addiction on ´depression´.
Yeah, I´d be depressed too if my mother preferred activism and lucre over me.

I give her credit for honesty and for taking some responsibility --correct or not--in her daughter´s drug struggles. I also credit the daughter for not blaming her parents when asked about her addiction.

In the soulless leftoid world of self-centered hedonistic behavior, having children or being responsible for your actions is a major inconvenience.
This is one of the reasons these people are pushing for Universal Pre-K and what 0bama was talking about when he said he didn´t want his daughters to have to be "punished by having a baby".

Not everyone is cut out to be a parent, so it´s best to know thyself and not have a child just to have one if you know you´re not suited. That was their first mistake. Second mistake = not keeping her mouth shut. For heaven´s sake, keep that sort of thing to yourself! It´s boring and unpleasant for everyone else to hear, and it does you no good.

For leftists with political ambitions a child is just a prop. Perhaps Chirlane resents being parked at home with the prop while her chauvinistic husband was out pursuing his selfish goals.

I was a stay at home mom for 16 years and loved it. Yes, it´s hard work but I never found it boring. But then I went through 9 years of fertility treatments and two miscarriages, one of which almost killed me, before we adopted our daughter.

She may be the only openly-honest mother I´ve ever heard. Most mothers won´t admit it. They say things like, "I love my kids, but....", or "No matter what they´ve done, I love them anyway and it´s worth it." Okay, fine. I believe that.

But let´s not trash a woman who is honest about it. Kids can be a real PITA and sometimes, it isn´t "worth it." For some reason, most mothers feel they have to defend motherhood, often when they´re not cut out for it.

I wish that women who are ambivalent about being mothers would just go and get themselves sterilized. Too many people rely on abortion to be available when contraceptives fail, and those that do bear those children are aloof and uncaring toward them.

Hey, at least she was honest and even better, at least she didn´t abort her daughter! And regardless of what she said, she never said that she did not love her daughter. She was just one of those people who should not have had a child in the first place. There are a LOT of them. Most of them don´t even know it. I don´t think people in glass houses should throw stones. I bet most of the journalists are absent parents. And maybe folks here are perfect parents and were prepared for the hardships, sacrifices and struggles of being a parent, but not everyone is or can be. I sometimes regret not having a child because I think, in many ways, I could have been a good mother and could have passed on the unique knowledge and upbringing I had. But then I think of how my life was when I was younger and realize that it never would have been for the best for several reasons. I miss not having a part of me live on, but I don´t think I could have given my child what I was given by my parents...so, it is for the best. .

I had a very fulfilling life too when I married at 32, but it was nothing compared to the joy of having a child at 35 and again at 41, even when it meant giving up my our trip to Europe and my husband´s six months off. We plowed ahead and took our children around the world with us and yeah, it wasn´t easy but it was wonderful and they are the most beautiful, accomplished and tolerant people I know. They don´t have children yet but they are already planning the trips they are going to take them on. Their father took us round the world, countries with every kind of government, where he and I had been before, and we saw everything for the second time through their eyes and it was amazing. Such a gift. I feel sorry for New York´s First Lady.

The five sworn enemies of the United States are now in the Gulf state of Qatar, where they are free to come and go as they like, beyond the watch of American agents. In just one year, they will be free to return to Afghanistan to fight there and stage terror attacks far beyond that country’s borders.
