The Obvious Lessons
of the VA Scandal

American Spectator, by David Catron

Original Article

Posted By:garnet, 5/19/2014 7:11:50 AM

My father was a veteran of World War II, and thus eligible to receive medical treatment at the VA hospital that operated a few miles from our house. He used it exactly once. His experience with what the Veterans Administration calls “health care” was so awful that he claimed to be more in fear of his life within the walls of that VA facility than he had ever been on active duty in Europe. (Snip) The lessons of this scandal are that government-run health care doesn’t work and that the Democrats who promote it should be given the bum’s rush

As a nation we get what we accept. If the VA has been known as a poor source of authorized medical care for years why has nothing been for years? The first effort should be be to determine the VA´s capabilities relative to the requirements, not to merely punish the selected possibly guilty.

My dad is a Korea/Vietnam disabled vet, and will tell you in a heartbeat the VA will kill stay away from them. Fortunately he hasn´t been reduced to having to use the VA much mostly for his medications. Why if he wasn´t that fortunate? I shudder to think.

The author is right, Obama may be "madder than hell" but it is only because this is all coming out during an election cycle. Obama has been too busy trying to turn the best medical care in the world into what you would get at the average VA hospital. The VA is a working model for Obamacare. This will be the future of health care in this country. There is little hope of anything better. This is what happens when government runs anything. It produces rampant inefficiency, incompetency, backlogs, waste, fraud and neglect. Unfortunately, for the patients, life and death is thrown into the mix. Obama needs to be forced to answer how government run health care will produce different results than what has come to light about the VA hospitals.

"Madder than hell" is an odd term.
Just how mad would that be?
I´m thinking hell is pretty pleased with our situation here in America.

There are possibly two options available to fix this system.

1. Close it down and provide veterans publicly funded policies allowing them to seek care from providers of their choice.

2. Put Dr. Ben Carson in charge of the VA.

Communism doesn´t work.
Forcing our vets to use a single, government run medical
machine, leaving them with no alternative, learning of too many premature deaths, and thousands of questionable and unfortunate experiences, is finally coming to the attention of the sleeping, communist favoring press and media.

There can be no more perfect example of the madness and dangers ahead, for all Americans, with our current new insanity, Obamacare.

Does anybody in their right mind want to face a government machine, for the rest of their life, when seeking medical service? This whole thing is Reid Puglosi
insanity.

Time to read up, if you´ll forgive the phrase, on the many brutal crimes of Stalin´s Soviet enslaving Communism.
The Obama Propaganda Machine has deceived even more Lo Fo people than Slick Willie ever dreamed, but now we have the internet and FoxTV, and a much more fluid press to fight it. And that´s the GOOD NEWS. Those who care, are now beginning to hear ALL THE BAD NEWS !

VA vets need free market medicine, need a choice, as their support for risking their lives, and their sanity, for America

We are having success with SCHOOL CHOICE.
Let´s give all vets, MEDICAL CHOICE !

All of the outrages the author describes for the VA can and do happen in private hospitals and medical centers. As complicated as providing care for tens of thousands of people is mistakes can happen. In assessments of quality of care VA hospitals compare well to private hospitals.

I´m still waiting for proof that veterans actually died for lack of care because they were on a waiting list. All we have so far is allegations.

Question for #10 - what is the proof you demand? No one has claimed the long waiting lists and rescheduling for numbers purposes occur at every VA hospital. Sure delays happen. Are you prepared to offer a solution once you are satisfied that these veterans, their families, plus the staff at certain hospitals are not lying to make your man, Obama, look bad?

#9...Glad you pointed out a good one. I did the other day in another thread. Mine is the VA in Louisville KY and the VA Clinic at Ft. Knox.

I had no delays other than a week or two for any test I had to take to get my disability.

I´m sure there are more. If we are honest, we should root out the bad apples in the bad hospitals and praise those who are doing their best for the Veterans.

Now that the Supreme Court has issued its ruling in the Hobby Lobby case, the legal fight over the Affordable Care Act will shift a few blocks away to another Washington courtroom, where a far more fundamental challenge to Obamacare is about to be decided by the powerful U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Indeed, if Hobby Lobby will create complications for Obamacare, Halbig vs. Burwell could trigger a full cardiac arrest. The Halbig case challenges the massive federal subsidies in the form of tax credits made available to people with financial need who enroll in the program. In crafting the act, Congress created incentives

This morning’s Supreme Court ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby will doubtless precipitate a flood of stories from the establishment “news” media claiming that an entrenched cadre of conservative justices have dealt a grievous blow to the reproductive freedom of women and somehow endowed corporations with religious rights. These reports should be ignored as so much hysterical nonsense. What the Court actually said was that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) requires the government to provide closely held corporate objectors to Obamacare’s contraception mandate the same accommodation it already provides nonprofit organizations.

Computer experts and Republican lawmakers are poking holes in IRS claims that the agency did all it could to retrieve embattled ex-official Lois Lerner´s allegedly "lost" emails, which the agency blames on a 2011 hard-drive crash. The email revelation already has prompted three congressional hearings -- with more likely to come -- as lawmakers grow more skeptical of the explanation and look for inconsistencies in the story. Among them, they point to a flurry of emails from mid-2011 between Lerner and the agency´s information technology team about the alleged computer failure which was attached to the agency´s mea culpa delivered to

I´m old enough to remember when American liberals cherished the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. They celebrated especially the freedom accorded those with unpopular beliefs and protested attempts to squelch the expression of differing opinions. Today things are different. American liberals are not challenging the Supreme Court rulings extending First Amendment protection to nude dancers, flag burners and students wearing antiwar armbands. They are content to leave these as forms of protected free speech. But political speech is a whole other thing. I spent a lot of 2008 feeling crushed. It was exhilarating covering Hillary Clinton’s historic run for the presidency, but there was so much about the race that was backward and retro, more 1958 than 2008. It wasn’t just the media’s goggle-eyed questions about whether the country was “ready” for a female president or the inane things that spilled out of people’s mouths on cable television—though let’s remember that Christopher Hitchens called Clinton “soppy and bitchy,” Mike Barnicle compared her to “everyone’s first wife standing outside a probate court,” and Keith Olbermann suggested that the Democratic Party needed “somebody who

You can sum up today’s report on first-quarter gross domestic product in one short word: oof. The last estimate had GDP shrinking slightly from the prior quarter. The current estimate has it shrinking a lot: 2.9 percent on an annualized basis. If this keeps up for another quarter, the economy will officially be in recession. How did this happen? The White House line is that this was driven mostly by health care and net exports. But treat those figures carefully -- which is what I’ve seen a lot of people on Twitter not doing. The downside, and the upside, and the other downside of Hillary Clinton´s overwhelming popularity among Democrats, and the related likelihood that she will avoid a divisive primary campaign, is that she´s absorbing a tremendous amount of partisan opposition far ahead of her expected official candidacy.
