The painting of new Vanderbilt football coach Derek Mason´s face on a mural near campus will be updated after a petition was started by the school´s NAACP chapter.(snip)"We realized it was reminiscent of the minstrelsy era in which black people´s skin was darkened and their lips were made whiter in order to exaggerate their race in order to put them in a sharp contrast with the white race," said Akailah Jenkins, president of the Vanderbilt chapter of the NAACP. "In the mural, his skin is black, not brown, and his lips are white. It doesn´t look like him." Cooper believes

What to do about a dark black man in a cartoon-style (not photographic image) mural? Guess his lips could have been a little pink instead of gray-beige. The white is his teeth.

I thought black was suppose to be beautiful? It would have been useful to see the picture the artist used and also a photographically correct picture. Why was those omitted? Mr. Mason saw it, didn´t think it looked like him but didn´t complain about it. It did not look anything like what the NAACP claimed was the history behind such alterations. Nothing like it. It appears the NAACP has been reduced to swatting at a gnats on an elephant´s behind. Totally insignificant.

KABUL – Just days after Secretary of State John F. Kerry arrived in Kabul to broker an end to Afghanistan’s elections impasse — a weeks-long crisis that had threatened to split the country — disagreements among the two rival presidential candidates over how to proceed are already threatening to collapse the historic deal. Confusion over whether Afghan or international institutions will lead the inspection of 8.1 million votes cast in a June 14 runoff that was marred by widespread fraud has stalled the implementation of the Kerry-sponsored agreement and contributed to a renewed atmosphere of distrust between the two sides. Where is the red line of impeachment? In theory, a red line might be located somewhere on a list of impeachable offenses – perhaps at the point where a certain number of transgressions is exceeded, or next to a specific instance because of its significance or impact. In reality, though, that red line exists along a spectrum of “political will.” As Andrew McCarthy explained: “You can have a thousand provable impeachable offenses, but before Congress may remove the president from power, there must be strong popular support – a public will that cuts across partisan and ideological lines.”
