At the Supreme Court, a potential
catastrophe for women’s rights

Washington Post, by Sandra Fluke

Original Article

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company

I am no Limbaugh fan, but Sandra Fluke should be sending him a commission every single time her name lands in the newspapers or on television. She owes her ability to land an op-ed in the WaPo to Mr. Limbaugh.

I agree with her basic argument that corporations can not have religious views.

Whose views would a corporation have? Shareholders can be a diverse group of people. Do they vote? How often?

The way to fix this is to repeal Obamacare.

If a woman is willing to make the governmnet through it´s citizenary pay for her reproduction "choices" then she forfeits the right to claim it is her choice anymore. Now it becomes the governments beneveloncy as to what she can and can´t do with her body.

I started to read and consider the points of the article then I looked at who wrote it. Stop, not worthy of consideration. She who doesn´t know the true cost of the treatment she propose. Wasn´t she saying it cost thousands a year but when it was pointed out it was in the low hundreds, she had no idea. Now she exposes what she doesn´t know about corporation, a legal entity made up of people with views.

Corporations (owned by shareholders) have lots of views. That is, lots of ideological predispositions. Religious ideas are a part.

A big problem with the constitution/laws, is failure to recognize all the belief structures. Religion is not special in sum.

That is why "religious freedom" must simply mean no "establishment of religion" in a large sense. (As in no "establishment that all people must wear golf shirts") Not the criminalizing of any religious idea within or without the government.

Should the government have the power to force a Kosher Jewish Deli in Brooklyn, or a Halal Market in Dearborn to sell ham and cheese sandwiches?

It is the exact same question. The product being required is not the issue it is that government has the power to force a business to provide a government spec product that is troublesome.

I remember her testimony before the committee. She said that it costs about $ 3,000 per year to buy contraception. Now considering buying in bulk, condoms would go for about $ 1.50 each (they´re less in K-Mart). That averages out to 2,000 sex acts a year or 167 a month or 38 a week or 5.5 a day. Man! she sure is a busy slut! Where does she find the time or stamina to write stupid articles like this?

The evidence is prima facie that Hobby Lobby is a corporation owned by people who started the company, built it, and have religious views. The corporation only limits their liability to the resources the owners put into it, unless the owners have also provided their personal signatures. Very likely with Hobby Lobby. Ms. Fluke is so ignorant that it is really a waste of time.

I said at the time, that any woman who brags about the amount of sex she´s having is, by definition, a slut. And there´s another word which is used to describe women who expect to be paid for the sex they´re having. Note that Limbaugh didn´t mention the second half of that statement. "Corporations are not people."

Of course they aren´t, Sandra. But they are founded by people. And those people are expected to lay out the values embodied by policies and practices -- often values that express what is deemed right and wrong according to their religious beliefs.

The world does not revolve around you and your desire to sleep around. You want a promiscuous lifestyle? Pay for your own birth control. If you can´t survive without screwing two or three different partners a day, you´ll find counseling and treatment for addictions are covered under most major health plans.

In this country you are free to be as big a slut as you wish. But you are not entitled to make us pay to protect you from all potential consequences of your risky lifestyle.

Or a liar, #30.

#10 -- From Ed Morrissey at HotAir: "Hobby Lobby already offers coverage for 16 forms of birth control, only refusing to cover those that the owners consider abortifacients rather than contraception."

The issue is being framed by activists and the media to suggest that its objection is to any and all contraception -- it´s not.

Wrong. If corporations can have leftist political views and support such causes, or if corporations can lobby for environmental laws, or if corporations can have specific views regarding gay marriage...then they can also have religious and/or moral views. You cannot have it both ways. Leftists are okay with something as long as it goes their way but will fight the same idea if it goes against them.

Federal employees, like all Americans, are entitled to hold passionate political beliefs. Most executive branch federal employees, however, may not engage in certain political activities, thanks to an anti-conflict of interest principle enshrined in a federal law called the Hatch Act. That´s up from 5 percent in June, and is the highest number Gallup has registered for immigration since 2006, when 15 percent said it was the nation´s most pressing problem. Gallup’s new survey found immigration is virtually tied with “dissatisfaction with government” as the nation´s top problem. The economy and unemployment rank below immigration and “dissatisfaction with government" as top problems, the new poll found. How would you feel if someone promised to give you a car, and then reneged on that pledge? That’s how all Americans should feel when it comes to ObamaCare -- because Barack Obama’s failed and discredited campaign promise to lower health insurance premiums has cost the average American family an amount equal to the price of many new cars. During his 2008 campaign, one of then-Senator Obama’s most audacious promises was that his health plan would reduce premiums by $2,500 for the average family. The Obama administration quietly announced on Tuesday that it intends to change the way Americans learn about natural disasters and other major emergencies during radio and TV broadcasts, giving the president the ability to flip a switch and address the entire nation at once. The Emergency Alert System, the latest version of a program first established in 1951, blasts out emergency messages in the event of local weather emergencies, but can also be used to warn Americans about terror attacks and major natural disasters. In his message to the “Mexico/Holy See Colloquium on Migration and Development,” Pope Francis characterized the tens of thousands of illegal immigrants that have crossed the U.S. southern border as a product of globalization, suggesting that the phenomenon is happening worldwide. Francis proclaimed, “Despite the large influx of migrants present in all continents and in almost all countries, migration is still seen as an emergency, or as a circumstantial and sporadic fact, while instead it has now become a hallmark of our society and a challenge.” Emmer McCarthy for Vatican Radio said Francis expressed his concern for “the tens of thousands of

The First Lady of these United States has declared war on Chick-fil-A. It seems the home of plump juicy breasts and hot buttered buns has run afoul of the new Smart Snacks in School program. The program is a component of Mrs. Obama’s Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The new government regulations require snack items served in public schools to have less than two hundred calories. That includes vending machines, lunch rooms and other campus food venues. And that’s really bad news for kids at South Carolina’s Socastee High School. They’ve just learned they will no longer be allowed to buy Chick-fil-A

“Trust” is for Con Men: The reaction to the border chaos in Texas has accomplished one thing: It has exploded the lie at the heart of current “comprehensive” immigration reform plans. The basic structure of those plans is a swap of a) near-immediate legalization for b) increased border security in the future. The appealing idea is to let current illegals stay while taking the steps necessary to prevent further waves. The lie is the assumption that, once current illegals get their legalization, pro-immigrant activists in both parties will continue to support the second half of the bargain, the increased security. John McCain, an immigration hawk. Who knew? Mr. McCain, the highest-profile Republican of the U.S. Senate’s “Gang of Eight” that came up with amnesty as the solution to the immigration crisis — and it truly is a crisis — is finally taking a hard line against President Obama for his encouraging the tidal wave of illegal aliens swamping the southwestern border. “There has to be a halt to this,” Mr. McCain thundered Sunday on CNN. “That’s what we want, and the best way to do that is for planeloads of these young people to be returning to their country of origin

Contrary to what those who defend the right to own high-powered assault rifles believe, not all guns are created equal. Due to a combination of availability, portability and criminal usage the following five types of guns are the country's most dangerous. School Shootings: Widely Reported Tragedies Since 2000 - Using firearm trace data from the ATF, as well as FBI homicide records, we determined the types of guns most often recovered from crime scenes and/or used in murders. The numbers are stark: According to the FBI's 2012 Crime in the US data, nearly 70 percent of homicides for which the FBI received weapons data involved the use

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. Stoddard of the Hill says in effect he has stopped being president and chooses to live in a world of his own, shutting out the problems that have become overwhelming, giving dinners where he talks

Senate Budget Committee ranking member Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) has warned all of his colleagues in Congress that President Barack Obama’s new immigration strategy—his plans to legalize millions of illegal alien adults through executive power—could destroy America as we know it. “I write to inform you of a development that threatens the foundation of our constitutional Republic,” Sessions, Congress’s top immigration hawk, wrote in a letter that was hand-delivered to all 535 members of Congress on Monday and provided exclusively to Breitbart News. Sessions cites a recent report from the National Journal, in which reporter Major Garrett detailed how, despite the ongoing

Attorney General Eric Holder encouraged Americans not to forget race while working for justice and equality in their country. “As it stands, our society is not yet color blind -- nor should it be -- given the disparities that still afflict and divide us.” Holder explained, “We must be color brave, and we must never forget that all are made better and more prosperous if all are given equal opportunities.” Holder made his remarks during a speech at Howard University on Tuesday for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Civil Rights Act. “We must take into account not only the

WASHINGTON — It was an enduring image of his presidency: a chastened Bill Clinton walking his dog while wife Hillary keeps her distance as the family leaves town at the height of the Monica Lewinsky scandal — but it was all part of a contrived public-repentance campaign, according to a new book. With Bill on the skids and his wife’s future prospects on the line, it was necessary for the pubic to see the president being punished, said Weekly Standard online editor Daniel Halper in his new book, “Clinton, Inc.: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine.” “They understood that
