Can Liberals Trust John Roberts
to Rescue Obamacare Again?

New Republic, by Tom Donnelly

Original Article

Most Supreme Court watchers are fixated these days on Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby—the important challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate scheduled for argument Tuesday. And why wouldn’t they be? With its potent mix of religion, sex, Obamacare, and prayerful corporations, it’s the blockbuster case of the term. It is also a crucial test of Chief Justice John Roberts’s leadership on the Supreme Court. Just two years ago, Roberts cast the deciding vote to largely uphold the Affordable Care Act. While the country remains divided over whether he acted like a traitor or a statesman, all would have to agree

The article is a somewhat tedious slog for the serious-minded only.

The article leans toward Roberts´ rescue of O-BomberKommieKare yet again.

If only John Roberts had done the right thing the first time around,
with one vote (his) we´d have been rid of this Kommunist mess.

Roberts is yet another disaster, as was Ike´s appointee, Earl Warren.
Why do these jurists think they own the world we live in?
They want to play GAWD without actually earning a medical degree first...
and their little black robe means they can.

Whilst I agree that Roberts stuck it to freedom loving Americans everywhere when he sided with Obambi. He shouldn´t be the only one on the hook; there are 4 other justices who no doubt decided before the case ever came before the court that they were going to vote for Obambi, hence our relative servitude going forward.

I know it´s a longshot, but Sotomayor issued the stay against implementation of the law as it applied to the Colorado nuns. What if her religious beliefs led her to vote in favor of Hobby Lobby? Roberts would surely then vote the same in a 6-3 decision, and lib heads would explode all over the Country.

I know...it´s only a dream. But what if?

I think anyone expecting John Roberts to rule on this matter to resemble his ACA decision may be in for a big disappointment. It really is an apples and oranges comparison.

I just saw something better to compare ... in the National Catholic Register about John Roberts and another religious freedom case not long ago.

In 2012, when the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its unanimous ruling in a landmark First Amendment case, Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC, Chief Justice John Roberts traced religious liberty to the Magna Carta, which embraced this right as the first freedom.

The fact that Roberts voted the way he did on Obamacare is not as important to me as the contorted reasoning he used to vote the way he did. That does not bode well for future cases since his logic appears very flawed.

How would you feel if someone promised to give you a car, and then reneged on that pledge? That’s how all Americans should feel when it comes to ObamaCare -- because Barack Obama’s failed and discredited campaign promise to lower health insurance premiums has cost the average American family an amount equal to the price of many new cars. During his 2008 campaign, one of then-Senator Obama’s most audacious promises was that his health plan would reduce premiums by $2,500 for the average family. His repeatedly made his pledge on videotape; you can view those promises here. But health insurance premiums

According to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, TSA has “assesse[d] the global threat environment and reevaluate[d] the measures we take to promote aviation security.” Your cell phone is evidently part of a “global threat environment,” and so it must be turned on in order

The Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) latest report says that although the federal deficit this year is the lowest of the Obama era, in the near future, it is expected to skyrocket to World War II heights. The years between 2009 and 2012 saw the largest recorded federal government deficits since 1946, based on percentage of the economy. And although the White House also reported that the deficit this year is the lowest of the Obama administration, there is little reason for celebration. Currently, the amount of federal debt is exactly 74 percent of the economy, and if measures aren’t taken to reign

It had to come sometime, and it came in one very bad week for the Democrats: that the many big problems with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama finally grew too great for the press to ignore. Obama in his own different way is heading towards Nixon-like levels of weirdness, as, beaten down by the failures regarding his ventures, he appears to have quit his own job. A.B. CNN chose to describe the recently detained Jose Antonio Vargas, longtime journalist for U.S. publications and legal citizen of the Philippines, as a “symbol of the immigration debate.” The news network aired his documentary, Undocumented, several times. At the heart of Vargas’s viewpoint — and CNN’s decision to refer to him as a symbol, as opposed to, say, a scofflaw — is the notion that it is unfair to deny citizenship to him, considering his circumstances. Millennial politics is simple, really. Young people support big government, unless it costs any more money. They´re for smaller government, unless budget cuts scratch a program they´ve heard of. They´d like Washington to fix everything, just so long as it doesn´t run anything. That´s all from a new Reason Foundation poll surveying 2,000 young adults between the ages of 18 and 29. Millennials´ political views are, at best, in a stage of constant metamorphosis and, at worst, "totally incoherent," as Dylan Matthews puts it. It´s not just the Reason Foundation.
