Today, the Obama administration is unveiling a progressive initiative called “My Brother’s Keeper” to help young black men and minorities train for and get jobs. From Yahoo News today: President Obama will announce a $200 million commitment from nine foundations Thursday afternoon to bolster the lives of young men and boys of color. The president will create a new inter-agency “My Brother’s Keeper Task Force” headed up by Broderick Johnson [Obama For America senior adviser], the cabinet secretary and assistant to the president. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, Attorney General Eric Holder, Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and other senior officials will be personally involved

If they really want to help, they will not raise the minimum wage. But I doubt the task force will come to that conclusion.

Try this program:
1.Finish high school
2.Get some post secondary education; Community College, Technical School, or 4 year college.
3. Get a job and go to it every day.
4. Get married and stay that way.

Worked for me.

The best (and in fact the only) way to help these young people is to immediately suspend all family hostile and community destroying liberal programs. But.. thats not what this is about.

He can throw all the money at this problem that he wants, but until the blacks are held accountable for their own lack of morals and ethics, nothing will change. When 0bama and Big 0prah hold their people accountable, instead of preaching to the whites about how blacks should be treated, then maybe we will see change. Young black mothers get pregnant, are given welfare and food stamps; the fathers roam freely from woman to woman. There is no stable family structure, few actually graduate from school, and there is no accountability for bad behavior.

There was a time when some programs with similar goals actually worked. In 1970-71, there was a Postal Academy in Detroit that I saw up close. (U.S. Post Office had a few of these sprinkled around the country. Oversight and funding were national, but operation was locally managed, almost independent.) The strength of the Postal Academy in Detroit was in its individual leader, an educated and very capable Army veteran. He worked a few miracles with some hard cases.

The first thing that should be done is to mandate they 12 hours of counseling to undo their sense of entitlement. They feel they have everything coming to them because of past injustices or perceived injustices If they feel "entitled" they will get no-where. Of course a little moral and ethical guidance may also help. Well, I´ll stop there. By the time the single mothers find out they are emeshed in the system with no way out, it is already too late, for the most part.

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences.
