Romney: Veto Ariz. bill
The Hill (Washington, D.C.), by Mario Trujillo

Mitt Romney on Tuesday joined a growing chorus of Republicans urging the Arizona governor to veto a bill that would allow business owners to cite their religious beliefs in refusing service to gay people. The former Massachusetts governor tweeted at Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R), saying it “is right” to veto the bill passed by the state legislature last week. Brewer has not said whether she will sign or veto the measure. However, a number of media outlets have reported people close to her expect her to veto it. Brewer told CNN she would weigh both sides before deciding the right thing to

Typical payback to conservative Christians for their faithful support of the GOP.

Also, I love the argument that you should vote for or against something because "it´s the right thing to do." Shows the depth of thought.

For years there were signs in windows of AMERICAN places of business that read "we reserve the right to give service to anyone" that was their option. If you don´t want to make more money, well it´s your business, you do the work so it should be your choice!

Bakers, jewelers, caterers, musicians, have the right to say I am sorry but I am over committed, too busy, I don´t have the time because I want to be able to spend time with my family and thus reject an order, or bid a price for that service that is astronomical. What is the price for your integrity or your commitment to your religion ?

Romney blew his chance at the Presidency because he was perceived by the voters to be weak and lilly livered when it came to this sort of things and so now he advises from the side lines. Does the Mormon religion abide homosexuality, does it not go against their belief to aid and abet things they do not believe in?

One could say that you would not do business with a black person or a muslim, and what about that? Well I don´t know any religion that would consider being black, Jewish or a Muslim is sinful so it´s the things that are of your religious beliefs that dictate the response to whom one is willing to do business.

Doing business has always meant putting up with things you might find repugnant, if you knew about them. What about the Somalian Muslim cab drivers in Minnesota? Should they be allowed to refuse business to people with guide dogs, or people who might be carrying a bottle of wine, because it violates their religious beliefs? Can Muslim supermarket checkers refuse to serve customers buying bacon or pork chops? They can in Great Britain.

How do you know if someone has behaved in a way you find repugnant? You can make a wedding cake for a heterosexual couple--but would you be willing to do so if you knew the woman had had two or three abortions prior to her impending nuptials? Dealing with the public means putting up with behavior you don´t like.

If a gay couple comes to my taco stand (or whatever) and wants to buy tacos, I can sell them tacos without condoning their behavior, regardless of my religious opposition to gay marriage. But asking me to bake a cake for their wedding, and then getting in my face if I refuse, crosses a line: they are asking me to condone their behavior and their wedding. There is a difference. But maybe my opinion is too "nuanced" for the LBGT community to grasp.

How does the government - - the law - - determine who is a homosexual and who isn´t?

Businesses that want to uphold their values can request that customers "apply" for their services. Names and addresses of all involved when combined with social media should highlight any issues, at which time the business is oversubscribed. Yes, there are additional costs to the screening, but discrimination would be hard to prove. The NSA should be so lucky.

#10, if the government butted out of business, since it isn´t constitutionally allowed to the extent government does it, then yeah, they cna refuse. But with government not picking winners and losers, a free market means someone else who wants to make money can jump in and provide taxi services to guide dog people and people with alcohol. And the mooslims can then go out of business since their service then isn´t ´protected´ by the local goverment, unlike the situation today where such businesses as licensed and protected by government - all under the rubric of ´safety´ for the sheep.

A law like the one in question here is useful only if there is another law such as that misbegotten statute in New Mexico that purports to tell businesses who they have to serve in the first place. There should be no such law. If there is in Az, just repeal it, rather than create yet another law to form a narrow exemption to the law that shouldn´t even be there to start.

So, must a Catholic doctor perform abortions? Can a Muslim or Jewish butcher be required to sell pork? If your answer is "yes" then you are one sick puppy and have no connection with religious freedom. No shirt, no shoes, no service. This clearly discriminates against surfers and should be illegal... Oh, surfers don´t have vocal advocates.

Someone who claims that 1062 is about gays has an agenda. There is no mention of any form of homosexuality in the bill. It simply clarifies some ambiguities in a previous religious freedom bill.

The arguments illustrate why we no longer can discuss public policy in this country. Someone is always on the short end (otherwise a policy is not required) and they always will whine.

Monday night, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes used an essay on Slate about the Bundy Ranch standoff and race as a jumping off point to discuss how this story would be different if rancher Cliven Bundy’s armed supporters were black. “When is it that people take up arms against the federal or state government, point their arms at federal agents and face no consequence for it?” Hayes asked. “The answer is to that is hardly ever.” Hayes went on to imagine how Fox News react to the New Black Panthers if they decided to “greet law enforcement with long guns.” Or what if the

As he moves from lobbyists to the golf course, from press conferences to the tanning bed, he remains oblivious to all that is around him. He has power, incredible power, and yet to this day he has no understanding of the election that made it so. Moreover, all around him are astonishing opportunities for him to be an historic figure -- one who could and should be the man who did more than any other single person in turning back the red tide of Obama. It’s all there for Speaker of the House, and yet John Boehner manages to miss

Global sea levels have risen by 8 inches (20cm) since 1880 and scientists predict they could rise up to 3ft (98cm) by 2100. But despite the UN’s recent threats of war, famine and extreme weather, such a dramatically different world caused by sea level rise can be hard to imagine. To help picture the future, Martin Vargic, an amateur graphic designer from Slovakia, has created a map depicting the planet with sea levels around 260ft (79m) higher than they are today. He imagines what Earth would look like if the ice sheets surrounding the North and South poles melted, releasing

It may not be tomorrow, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says "something will happen" to force a Nevada rancher to obey a court order to stop grazing his cattle on federal land and pay his grazing fees. "It´s obvious that you can´t just walk away from this," Reid said in an April 18 interview with a Nevada´s KSNV-TV News 3 program “What’s Your Point?” "You can´t have a law that is -- we´re a nation of laws, not of men and women," he said. (Video) Reid noted that most cattlemen pay their taxes, pay their fees, and follow

Joan Eisenstodt didn´t have a stopwatch when she went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist recently, but she is certain the physician was not in the exam room with her for more than three or four minutes. "He looked up my nose, said it was inflamed, told me to see the nurse for a prescription and was gone," said the 66-year-old Washington, D.C., consultant, who was suffering from an acute sinus infection. When she started protesting the doctor´s choice of medication, "He just cut me off totally," she said. "I´ve never been in and out from a visit faster." These days,

The Citizens Commission on Benghazi, a self-selected group of former top military officers, CIA insiders and think-tankers, declared Tuesday in Washington that a seven-month review of the deadly 2012 terrorist attack has determined that it could have been prevented – if the U.S. hadn´t been helping to arm al-Qaeda militias throughout Libya a year earlier. ´The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,´ Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline. She blamed the Obama administration

Harry Reid isn’t backing down from his claim that rancher Cliven Bundy’s supporters are “domestic terrorists.” It’s astonishing rhetoric given the White House’s characterization of the mass shooting by a genuine terrorist, Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 Americans at the Fort Hood Army base after yelling “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great.) Rather than labeling Hasan’s actions “domestic terrorism,” the Obama administration is prosecuting him for having committed “workplace violence.” Democratic rhetoric is become ever more desperate and overheated as we approach the November midterm elections. Last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that GOP positions on immigration were motivated by
