WASHINGTON — A new study reveals that nearly 33,000 jobs have been impacted due to the Affordable Care Act’s medical device excise tax. The report comes from the Advanced Medical Technology Association following an online survey of member companies last year. “According to the report, the tax has led to employment reductions of approximately 14,000 industry workers and foregone hiring of 19,000 workers,” the study stated. “The total job impact of the tax on industry employment was approximately 33,000.” Stephen J. Ubl, CEO of AdvaMed, said this tax needs to be repealed. “During a time when there is bipartisan

Amazingly, this law taxes SALES, not profits.

That´s a much bigger bite, and it comes off the top.

I am one of those casualties of the medical device excise tax. I worked for a medical device company for almost 5 years, and coincidentally, one of my jobs in 2010 put me on a team to estimate the impact of Obamacare on our organization. Our team knew then that many of us would lose our jobs. Over the past year, this company got rid of its innovation (R&D) group as well as marketing and over half of its sales force. Prior to Obamacare, the company was growing in double-digits and was one of the growth engines of the parent organization. After Obamacare, the company has been in a continuous decline. The parent company has designated its medical device division as a cash cow within it´s portfolio of products, essentially bleeding the medical device devision until it´s useless.

This is the true legacy of Obamacare--job losses by motivated people with advanced degrees, destruction of healthcare innovations, and outsourcing of new product development to Europe and Asia. FYI, being let go was one of the best things for me, as I now work in an industry with less government involvement.

As expected, prices increased on all devices so those classified as taxable did not bear the full increase, customers will wait longer to replace equipment, all medical and insurance costs will be increased to offset the higher cost of the devices. These actions multiply the 33,000 jobs at risk by a factor of at least 10.

#s 5 and 6: once your valuable, highly skilled jobs are gone, they are extremely hard to bring back.

This also gives the lie to BO & Co. that they want a high-skill, highly educated workforce. Once you lose that tax base, the decline spreads throughout the economy.

As usual, a glance at socialist regimes, history, flat-lined Europe, and there´s enough evidence to fight the propaganda coming from the Dem/Left, led by BO.

Where does all this medical device tax money go? Not toward Obamacare, because the premiums and deductibles are much higher than they were in the previous system.

I fear that the goal of the Democrats, and many of the Republicans, is to take money from the people and to put it into the pockets of themselves and their supporters. Crony capitalism means a shoddy product for us and vast wealth for them. Who can stop this process?

Rather than reporting on the actual study itself, much of the article is focused on Republican efforts to educate the public on the disastrous effects of the ill-conceived bill rammed through Congress by the Democrats.

This article is NOT a news article and belongs on the opinion page.

Why don´t you remind us?

While you´re at it, compare the promises to which you refer to a few of Obama´s promises such as:

“That means that no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”

– President Obama, speech to the American Medical Association, June 15, 2009

and

"I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family´s premium by up to $2,500 a year."

Just asking.

Obama should be removed from the White House in shackles.
HE is responsible for threats to the General
Welfare of the People. Obamacare is destroying lives..cancer patients and seriously ill children. Medicines unavailable, medical devices will become unsafe because they are outsourced to China.
Then as the Barbarians climb our walls, we will not have a strong military to defend us, and the EPA has prevented us from drilling our own oil, so we will not be able to fuel our war planes, tanks, ships etc. Electricity will become unaffordable, as will oil for heating in winter.
America is in danger from so many fronts..our wonderful Country HAS been transformed according to Obama´s plans. And STILL we sit.

The President is no economic illiterate, despite what conservatives think. He understands basic macroeconomics just fine, thank you – but with a twist.
