Why Does America Send So Many
Stupid, Unqualified Hacks Overseas?

Politico Magazine, by James Bruno

Original Article

Recently, a colleague of mine from the Foreign Service told me about a former U.S. ambassador to Sweden who, some years ago, had passed out in the snow, too drunk to get up. He had been partying hard during an outing in the countryside. Fortunately, an embassy officer found him in time to save his life. America’s boozy man in Stockholm was a non-career political appointee—no surprise. The fellow who saved him was a professional diplomat. And the roles the two men played that night is emblematic of a familiar routine. That was the thought I had earlier this week when

And let us not forget Howard Gutman, Obama bundler and Obama-appointed ambassador to Belgium before Gutman was accused of soliciting underage prostitutes in the park near the US embassy. Gutman was also a tireless shill for the Obama administration, a mouthpiece for the church of global warming and infamous for stating that Muslim violence against Jews wasn´t really anti-semitism. Although the Belgians loved him - to his credit he actually did take the time to learn Dutch and French and schmooze with the populace - but the two times I met him (My family and I live in Belgium) he struck me as the sort of oily glad-hander one would expect of an Obama sycophant.

Does anybody believe that Caroline Kennedy is qualified to be ambassador to Japan. There was another female Obama crony appointed to another Scandinavian country that was so abusive to her employees, they threatened to quit.

Obama has made a mockery of these types of bundler based appointments. The first thing the media does is say all presidents have done this but the difference is Obama´s absolute obsession with rewarding donors any way he can. It´s done as an example for other people to donate.

Most of these people are hardcore drunks who can´t control their drinking.

Argentina has it´s own Obama style debacle running their government but Obama appoints some lackey there who doesn´t know a damn thing about the country.

This country has gotten to the point,I´d vote for the next president on honesty alone.

I would imagine the administration would have a hard time finding honest American-loving people to work for them. Only true believers in Obama, not America, seem to be picked. I think their worst fear is to have another defector from the administration do a ´tell all,´ like Gates did.

Think about if Sebelius would turn on them...what she could say. That´s why they are protecting her.

Bruno needs to ask the question about his own profession. How many US journalists sent on foreign assignment speak the language, know the history and can uncover their own stories? Many become nere pawns of the government in the nation they are sent to cover, which provide interpreters and points them to "men and women on the street" who always speak good English.

Although it pains me to say this, the choice of Caroline Kennedy as ambassador was brilliant. I lived and worked in Tokyo for 6 yrs and still do considerable business with the Japanese. I understand the culture very well and speak, read and write the language.
Japan is a country of illusion, symbolism, and above all, image. America offering Kennedy to Japan is interpreted as if the Brits had sent Prince Harry as Ambassador--- the Kennedy name represents as close to royalty as America will ever get.
It doesn´t matter one bit whether or not she can speak Japanese, or even English. Someone will speak and act on her behalf and every appearance will be carefully crafted and rehearsed beforehand.
Her appointment is seen as an honorable gesture demonstrating mutual respect. Kennedy is revered as the strong little girl who stood solemnly by her mother´s side as a nation mourned.

#2, Caroline Kennedy is every bit as qualified to be ambassador to Japan as was her grandfather Joseph P. Kennedy to be ambassador to Great Britain.

Of all the electoral maneuvers lately — Huckabee heading to Iowa, Santorum huddling with advisors, Allen West refusing to rule anything out, and even Joe Scarborough visiting New Hampshire — this is the most interesting. Is there room for Perry this time, though? Perry, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, will be in Des Moines and Davenport on Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. He will be sitting down with business leaders to discuss a wide range of issues, according to Bob Haus, an adviser in the state. He also will be taping an episode of “Iowa Press,” Iowa Public Television’s weekly public affairs program, Haus

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Charlie Crist doesn’t take to bed when he gets sick. He takes three Red Bulls, two cups of coffee, a glass of Mountain Dew, Sudafed and cough drops. Then, he discards the box of Mucinex his 81-year-old father suggested he take, pushes through the back door of a Fort Myers restaurant and wraps his arms around his Democratic supporters. “I can’t help it; I have to hug,” he says afterward, when asked whether he worries about passing on his cold to voters. “Can you even imagine not hugging?” Crist certainly couldn’t imagine it back on Feb.

The Obamacare Enrollment

Obamacare´s enrollment numbers are surging—for now. After a disastrous launch, the law´s backers are breathing a sigh of relief as enrollees flock to its insurance exchanges. But the totals are built on a shaky foundation, and at some point soon, the exchange enrollment figures are going to fall, perhaps by more than 1 million people. Right now, the administration is counting the total number of people who have selected an insurance policy under the law, rather than the number of people who´ve paid for it. But at some point, likely this spring, the administration will be forced to disclose how many people are

The agency is seeking feedback for a “possible future acquisition to provide near real time social media analysis.” HHS said it wants to use the tool for “ongoing monitoring” of public health issues. HHS provides a long list of requirements, including “access to real-time social media posts,” and “access to full Twitter firehose.” The agency requires an archive that goes back at least five years of “full Twitter historical data.”
