What Adopting a Child from Africa

American Thinker, by Jonathan Wakefield

About a year and a half ago, my wife and I flew to Ethiopia and returned to America with our newly adopted son, Amare -- the only black member of our now family of five. We expected his new brothers and extended family, our friends, church, and neighbors to embrace and love him, and they didn´t disappoint us. We did not know what to expect, however, from the general American public. (snip) over the course of the eighteen months Amare has been a black American living in an 80% white family, our grand total of negative incidents is...zero. Not a

The world will always have fools and sinners and those who prey upon others. But the perception of persistent and omnipresent racism in America is perpetuated by a political class who shamelessly exploit our history and see every wrong/inequity as evidence of needing political redress.

Recently I watched the documentary Breeders, which I recommend to everyone – gay and straight, liberal and conservative. The documentary, produced by Jennifer Lahl at the Center for Bioethics and Culture, exposes the ethical dangers posed by the practice known as “surrogacy.” Surrogacy is the use of a contract, by which a woman agrees to carry a gestating child in her womb for another party (usually an infertile heterosexual couple or a gay male couple), and also agrees to abandon the child to the couple who has engaged her services. Compensated surrogacy means that the carrier is paid to rent out her

CBS News has lost its strongest claim to be a fair and non-partisan news source with the departure of Sharly Atkisson from the network. The award-winning reporter has been squeezed-out because of her reporting on investigative themes inconvenient to the Obama administration (snip)like Sharyl Atkisson, Murrow eventually resigned from CBS News as his air time dimished because of the controversies his fearless reporting engendered. According to biography of then-CBS President William Paley, the network head said that did not want a constant stomach ache every time Murrow covered a controversial subject. Will the Obamas return to Chicago and live in their Hyde Park mansion? A probable tour site? Betcha. My question is: what will happen to the part of the yard that was purchased by Tony Rezko, so as to knock-down the purchase price paid by then-Senator Obama?

California’s state legislature is seeking to repeal an idiotic law that took effect January 1st. It turns out that some feel-good regulatory efforts generate enough blowback that they can actually be reversed. Stacy Finz reports in the San Francisco Chronicle: State lawmakers have passed a new food safety law that they wish they hadn´t. Anyone working in a California restaurant or bar who prepares ready-to-eat food - from bagels to sushi to fruit salad to cocktails - has to wear gloves or use deli tissue, spatulas or tongs. But the new rule, which went into effect Jan. 1, has had so much

The disappearance in the Gulf of Thailand of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 to Beijing, China after 2 hours 5 minutes of normal flight has all the trademarks of a terrorist attack against China by Al Qaeda. China’s Ministry of Defense on November 30th began militarily enforcing an expanded Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) covering the oil rich Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea and was about to claim a new ADIZ covering the oil-rich Spratly/Nansha Islands in the South China Sea. These ADIZs are highly contested by Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and South Korea. The loss of Flight 370

The specter of a modern long range jumbo jet suddenly falling from the sky with no distress call suggests horrific causes. (snip)There are only a few possible causes of the sudden disappearance of a modern airliner. None are comforting: Some kind of equipment malfunction that completely preoccupied the crew and led to a sudden crash. This almost never happens, but did occur in the case of Air France 447 lost in the South Atlantic on the way from Rio de Janeiro to Paris, when ice crystals apparently led to the auto pilot shutting off, and crew mistakes coping with the situation

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. One of the pillars of liberal social engineering is the belief that subsidies permitting poor people to move into nicer neighborhoods helps improve their life prospects. The multi-billion dollar Section 8 rent voucher program is premised on this notion, providing taxpayer funding for poor people to rent apartments in buildings and neighborhoods that house wealthier people.(snip) But a new large study funded by the federal government (who else?) has discovered that moving poor boys into richer neighborhoods is so disruptive that its effects are like those of PTSD

CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson has reached an agreement to resign from CBS News ahead of contract, bringing an end to months of hard-fought negotiations, sources familiar with her departure told POLITICO on Monday. Attkisson, who has been with CBS News for two decades, had grown frustrated with what she saw as the network´s liberal bias, an outsized influence by the network´s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said. She increasingly felt like her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.

You have probably seen all of the ridiculous speculating about the GOP nomination in 2016. This is still speculating, but my sincere hope is you don’t think it’s ridiculous too. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is laying the foundation for his presidential bid in concrete and steel. First, forget about Jeb Bush unless you want to hand Hillary eight years in the White House. The latest Rasmussen poll shows her leading Jeb in a general election 47 percent to 33. His name is Bush and to the general public the specifics of how smart he is doesn’t matter one iota. Writing a check on an account with an iffy balance, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told The New York Times that he thinks the Republican establishment is "going to crush [our opponents] everywhere." It took zero-point-zero seconds for that quote to become precisely the sort of rallying point that Republican incumbents would probably rather their opponents not have. The Tea Party-versus-establishment war has rarely been articulated as plainly as in McConnell´s comments. Although it appears that McConnell was probably speaking within the fairly narrow frame of candidates challenging incumbent Republican senators.
