Washington Post, by Aaron Blake

Original Article

Women´s rights activist Sandra Fluke appears to be moving forward with a run for Congress. Fluke has filed with the California state Democratic Party to seek its endorsement in the race for retiring Rep. Henry Waxman´s (D-Calif.) seat, according to the state party Web site. A state party delegate confirmed to Post Politics that Fluke has filed and paid the fee to appear on the ballot this weekend. Fluke hasn´t officially announced her campaign or filed with the Federal Election Commission, and she didn´t immediately return a request for comment. But filing for the state party´s endorsement means she´s now

Comments:
She had to do this to meet an interal Democrat party deadline for being eligible for an endorsement. She she still seems to be playing coy about whether she will run or not.

What an insult to every voter. The candidate as well as the party obviously don´t think well of the voters no matter what side they are on. Same for Wendy Davis.

What exactly do candidates like these have to offer except to provide on the surface buzzwords of the day? In their cases, I suspect it I am a woman and that is all you need to know.

Why should she be eligible to even run in this race. Just looked her up and she´s from PA. So, she takes a card from the Clinton playbook and runs in a state she doesn´t live in? How does that work?

I´m from CA and this is disgusting politics. She no more represents CA than Hillary represents NY. Oh, no! I´m declaring a war on women, right?

Please remember that California how has an open primary system in which the top two vote getters advance regardless of party affiliation. That means that someone like Fluke might come in number one n name recognition alone. But rather than facing a Republican in an overwhelmingly Democrat district, she could face another more locally based Democrat in the general election.

There is no chance for anything but a Democrat in that district and the pack will be baying and snarling for the prize. I can´t see how she can get the nomination. My theory is that she has chosen California, and this district to debut her for-real political career with a campaign that will not threaten anyone important, but that will advance her name-recognition before it fades, and maybe build a war chest for her future campaigns for other public offices.

A $14,000 jumble sale find turned into millions of dollars for a man who´d been thwarted in his attempts to turn a quick profit by selling the tiny ornament to scrap metal dealers. The man, who hails from the Midwest but wishes to remain anonymous, had been left financially stretched after he apparently overestimated what the tiny golden egg would be worth once melted down. He´d been hoping to make $500. In a fit of desperation one night last year, he typed "egg" and the name engraved on the clock it contained -- "Vacheron Constantin" -- into Google.

The president’s problem right now is that people think he’s smart. They think he’s in command, aware of pitfalls and complexities. That’s his reputation: He’s risen far on his brains. They think he is sophisticated. That is his problem in the health insurance debacle. People have seen their prices go up, their choices narrow. They have lost coverage. Two statements explain the huge failure of Obamacare. One is by President Barack Obama, the other is about him. The first was made in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the end of the 2008 primary campaign, when candidate Obama predicted that generations would look back and see his nomination as “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” Couple this with the assessment of his closest aide, Valerie Jarrett, about his exceptionalism. “He knows exactly how smart he is,” she told Obama biographer David Remnick. “And he knows that he has the

Amid all the charges and countercharges in Washington over the government shutdown, there is at least one common theme: Barack Obama’s various charges always lead to a dead end. They are chaos, and chaos is hard to understand, much less refute. By that I mean when the president takes up a line of argument against his opponents, it cannot really be taken seriously — not just because it is usually not factual, but also because it always contradicts positions that Obama himself has taken earlier or things he has previously asserted. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
