Why you’re wrong about communism: 7 huge
misconceptions about it (and capitalism)

Salon Magazine, by Jesse Myerson

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 2/3/2014 1:27:52 PM

As the commentary around the recent deaths of Nelson Mandela, Amiri Baraka and Pete Seeger made abundantly clear, most of what Americans think they know about capitalism and communism is arrant nonsense. This is not surprising, given our country’s history of Red Scares designed to impress that anti-capitalism is tantamount to treason. In 2014, though, we are too far removed from the Cold War-era threat of thermonuclear annihilation to continue without taking stock of the hype we’ve been made, despite Harry Allen’s famous injunction, to believe. So, here are seven bogus claims people make about communism and capitalism. 1. Only

Comments:
If this pathetic radical leftist likes communism so much he should just get the heck out of this country and go live elsewhere. There are thousands of places for him to go and be oppressed. It is just stunning to me that these jerks who love what this country offers constantly tear it down. Oh how I despise them. The comments are not kind to him. What else would you expect from a "media coordinator" for Occupy Wall Street.

A bunch of ridiculous straw man fallacies.
All of them could be rewritten slightly to where the meanings were basically the same but the would be irrefutably true.

The word this twit was reaching for was errant. Communists, being smarter than everyone else, don´t use spell check.

All those communist regimes that resulted in starving masses failed because he wasn´t in charge. I have read that the millions of peasants need not have died had they allowed each a small plot of land for a garden.

This POS dissertation revolves around the false notion that those who call for ´Limited Government" are anarchists who are calling for "No Government". This is an old Leftist ploy.

Don´t take the bait.

Appropriate and limited government brings out the best in everyone.

How many times do we have to demonstrate the fabulous potential of Liberty ???

Why is it that the left cannot offer up a single example of Communist success ?

This sophomoric and circular ´logic´ is best used to get young co-eds into bed but it has no value as a system of governance.

Newt Gingrich failing to return a library book in Georgia is a violation of the law. So is serial rape, perjury and obstruction of justice by Clinton. Therefore all politicians commit crimes. There is (quite deliberately) no sense of proportion.

Communism built a wall in Berlin to hold captive their innocent citizens.

Prior to that, every wall in history had been built to protect citizens from bad people.
Walls to keep foreign invaders out.
And walls to lock criminals away from innocent citizens.

In all these cases the citizens were free to come and go as they pleased.

But not so with the Berlin wall.
The wall made slaves out of the people.
That is why communism is slavery.

This Meyerson is one sick puppy. Has he ever worked a day in his life, or has he subsisted on the effort of others? Having read his tripe, the one thing that keeps coming through all the hyperbole, is that he is proposing that the many non-contributors are distributed the gains equally that the contributors amassed through their efforts and diligence. If I could have all my needs provide to me via the "system" then why on earth would I lift one finger to provide for myself? We are currently seeing his "ideal" socio/political system being implemented right here before our eyes with the progressive/socialist administration and the Democrat Party.

Here are some facts i doubt Jesse ia aware of.

Communism was the brainchild of a philadering ne´er-do-well who lived off the wealth of his wife´s family, turned down jobs offers, impregnated his endentured servant and then denied paternity, and wrote a manifesto about communism while sitting in the reading room of lavish library built in the heart of London, at the peak of England´s power.

Karl Marx was a lazy, evil, vile individual.

The beauty of a capitalist system, is it allows voluntary communism. During the 1960´s many ´communes´ were set up. Prior to that, the ´Shakers´ were popular in the 19th century.

Communism, however, is not voluntary. It is mandatory. Those wishing to set up a free marketplace, will be stopped. Stopped with violence if necessary.

One problem he has is in confusing government with the economy. Communism does take the place of the market and tries to produce goods and services, fix their prices and distribute those goods and services to specified consumers. Capitalism is democratic in that it relies on the votes of all producers and consumers in an everlasting election (called the free market) concerning which goods get produced and who consumes them, little or no government is required. Communist/socialist economy/governments inevitably fail like a juggler trying to keep 10,000 balls in the air. In free markets for every ball there is at least one juggler. True, governments in free markets often jump in and try to control things in the name of their conception of ´fairness´ making the markets less free to one extent or another. That inevitably distorts the market and partially defeats the genius of the market but that´s not a fault of capitalism/free markets, that´s a fault of the control freak nature of most governments.

A fascinating article by Francis Wilkinson appeared in Bloomberg View last week (h/t Instapundit). Wilkinson detailed the fact that income inequality between whites and blacks is worse in leftist cities: Minneapolis-St. Paul. San Francisco. Chicago. Even Madison, Wisconsin. If you are politically liberal and value relatively high levels of income equality, you might live in one of these quintessentially liberal U.S. cities. Yet all four lurk in the bottom half of the 2014 National Urban League’s State of Black America report on income inequality between blacks and whites. Among the many places where black-white income is less skewed are Phoenix, Arizona,

This was no rogue incompetent tinkering with America´s health care. Don´t get me wrong; Sebelius was inexcusably bad — arrogant, defiant, uncompassionate, dogmatic and unrepentant. "But at 12 percent, 11 percent increase on average across all the states -- that puts it at the upper end of any increase we´ve seen for decades." That is the national average in a survey done by Morgan Stanley. But in some states, it found rates are soaring. "There are specific states with exorbitant increases," says Gottlieb.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of
