Andrea Mitchell: ‘Iran Was More
or Less an American Ally’ Before
Bush’s ‘Axis of Evil’ Remark

Mediaite, by Noah Rothman

Original Article

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell recalled on Monday some of the most impactful State of the Union addresses in the recent past, focusing primarily on George W. Bush’s post-9/11 speech in which he called North Korea, Iraq, and Iran members of an “Axis of Evil.” Mitchell ripped into Bush and former Secretary of State Colin Powell for approving that remark which alienated Iran, a country she said had been “more or less an American ally.” Washington Post reporter Chris Cillizza said that the “Axis of Evil” address was among the most important State of the Union addresses delivered in recent memory. “That

Comments:
Ahh yes, the brilliant Andrea Mitchell. s/o If this isn´t an excellent example of media malpractice I don´t know what is. If she had any sense she would be utterly and completely ashamed of herself.

Andrea is getting senile and her memory is gone. It was Jimmy Carter who lost Iran. And we could have had them as an ally again, but Obama supported the wrong side in the latest uprising. Or at least he dithered and dithered, with analysis paralysis.

Liar!! Jimmy Carter destabilized the Shah´s regime by withdrawing intelligence support, leaving all the Shah´s supporters angry at the USA. Then Carter encouraged Khomeini to come out of exile in Paris to assume power in Tehran. Far from being grateful for our help, the Ayatollah began immediately to attack "the great satan". If there was a period when Iran was "more or less an American ally" it was before the democrat Carter undermined the rule of the Shah.

Andrea Mitchell, AKA Mrs Alan Greenspan, is a far left reporter who is married to the former head of the Federal Reserve.

Have the Communist/Marxists taken complete control of the media as well as the government?

Yes they have.

Agree w/ 5. Iran has not been a US ally since the first time Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeni called the US "the great Satan". Andrea Mitchell has surely been alive long enough to know this. She may need to stay out of Colorado for awhile.

Hey Andrea, you dummy, the only thing wrong with President Bush´s absolutely truthful and courageous declaration about the Axis of Evil was that he only used the term once in a speech. Once the media (and his own scaredycat advisors and family) started beating him up for the comment, we never heard it again.

Andrea dear, please discuss your theory with the 52 American guests who were served 444 days of unbridled Ally hospitality then please get back to us. As I recall it wasn´t the lack of a hot plate at dinner or the occasional failure to place a mint on the pillow that strained our deep friendship. And if memory serves me right I do believe that was in the Carter Administration ending coincidentally with the dawn of the Reagan era which I do believe preceded Bush. But then again I´m not an expert investigative reporter and outright genuine TV personality. I´ll trust you to dig deeply and help jog my failing feeble old mind. Thank you for your service to the country.

Is she daft!? Iran WAS an ally when the Shah was in power--a good ally. But the left, lead by Jimmy Carter, sought to punish him for ´abusing´ the Muslim fanatics. All hell broke loose after we abandoned him and Iran fell to mullahs, and Iran has been our sworn enemy ever since. Mitchell is not only ugly, she´s stupid too.

Lord have mercy. So she can run with a population about her own intellectual speed, Andrea should move to Equatorial Guinea, where the median IQ is lowest in the world at 59: somewhere between moron and imbecile. She´d feel right at home there. That statement is probably the most "lay-you-flat-in-the-aisle-in-utter-amazement" stupid I´ve ever heard from a public figure. (Ignorance, which is remediable, doesn´t apply here--just plumb stupidity.) It takes real determination and practice to master this level of stupidity. Extreme left wing politics can make one susceptible to emitting such howlers. Time for the rocking chair, Andrea. Bless your heart.

A fascinating article by Francis Wilkinson appeared in Bloomberg View last week (h/t Instapundit). Wilkinson detailed the fact that income inequality between whites and blacks is worse in leftist cities: Minneapolis-St. Paul. San Francisco. Chicago. Even Madison, Wisconsin. If you are politically liberal and value relatively high levels of income equality, you might live in one of these quintessentially liberal U.S. cities. Yet all four lurk in the bottom half of the 2014 National Urban League’s State of Black America report on income inequality between blacks and whites. Among the many places where black-white income is less skewed are Phoenix, Arizona,

Former Senator Joseph Lieberman (I–Conn.) testified that Syria had become a key focal point of al-Qaeda’s efforts. He noted that there are more foreign militants fighting in Syria today than in Iraq and Afghanistan combined over the past 10 years: “Put very bluntly, Syria has become the most dangerous terrorist sanctuary in the world today—and the United States has not coherent or credible policy for dealing with it.”

As horrible as Kathleen Sebelius has been as this nation´s health and human services secretary, she has been exactly who President Barack Obama wanted her to be. This was no rogue incompetent tinkering with America´s health care. Don´t get me wrong; Sebelius was inexcusably bad — arrogant, defiant, uncompassionate, dogmatic and unrepentant. Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

On Fox News Sunday, political analyst Brit Hume said that Eric Holder’s claim that his treatment at the hands of Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) at a House hearing this week was unprecedented toward an Attorney General, made him a “crybaby,” and that he and President Barack Obama had in fact benefited “enormously” from being the first African Americans in their respective positions. “This strikes me as kinda crybaby stuff from Holder,” Hume said. “My sense about this is both Eric Holder and Barack Obama have benefited politically enormously from the fact that they are African American and the first to

They’re both qualified, respectful of each other (shocker!), and represent the vast majority of middle America. So what’s not to like about another Clinton/Bush race for 2016? When you mention the prospect of Clinton vs. Bush 2016 a funny thing happens. First, there is the reflexive response: "Oh no, not again. We don´t need more dynastic politics in this country." But upon further reflection, you realize Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton would be a great race and actually good for the country. Let´s review. QUALIFICATIONS—THEY’VE BOTH GOT THEM. Barack Obama won the presidency because in an election where the premium was on change, it mattered little

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

President Obama inspired a generation of young people to support his historic election in 2008. And in 2012, despite the struggles of his first term, Mr. Obama still managed to win the support of a full 60% of voters age 18-29. But the man who once dreamed of being a transformative leader in the Reagan mold is inspiring few of those young people to follow his lead. "For all the talk about the movement that elected Mr. Obama, the more notable movement of Obama supporters has been away from politics. It appears that few of the young people who voted

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. Many Republicans are re-evaluating their strong stances on conservative social issues as public

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K
