Hand guns should be legalised and

Telegraph [UK], by Georgia Graham

The Ukip leader has said it is party policy for hand guns to be legalised and licensed in the UK despite being banned in the UK for the last 18 years. Mr Farage said the current ban on the guns, which were made illegal following the school shooting at Dunblane in 1996, was “ludicrous.” Speaking on LBC Radio Mr Farage said that it was Ukip policy to create a “proper licensing policy” and that people who kept hand guns responsibly locked up and had were willing to get an official license should “absolutely” be allowed them. Experts have said his

"Any change could possibly act as a green light for an increase in criminality." What insanity, thinking that the only thing keeping criminals from committing crimes is that law abiding people are not allowed to own guns.

Then it comes to guns for commoners over there the political mindset is pretty bad. You can see why the founding fathers of the USA did not go along with much that came out of London.

I rode across the Atlantic one evening with a guy in the Manchester Police, among other things we talked about guns and he said that he had a bunch of them, of course they were licensed, so it appears it depends a lot on who you are in the class structure over there.

What happened in the UK is exactly why our Founding Fathers gave us the Second Amendment. I´ve seen a video of a woman being stabbed to death in broad daylight on a busy street in England and nobody did a thing. They had no means to stop it. What good is a handgun that is locked up? If you can´t carry a handgun then it can only be used for self defense in your home. Even then you have to unlock it first? I´m all for locking up handguns if there are children around. If no children I want access without having to mess with a lock. I thank God I live in Texas.

FTA:
"Experts have said his comments were “stupid” and encourage an American-style idea that you and your home are only safe if you are armed. "

Nigel is right and the "experts" are idiots.

In the Us, burglars go to great lengths to avoid breaking into an occupied home because the risk of being shot is very high.

In the UK, there is no such possibility, so "hot burglaries" of occupied homes are common. There will be no gun to even the score, and if a knife or bat is used, the homeowner is usually charged with a crime if he injures the burglar. In one case that I know of, the UK gov´t paid for lawyers so an injured burglar could sue for compensation, even after the homeowner was charged, convicted and sent to prison for defending himself.

Watch ´Clockwork Orange´ some time.

Ed Miliband says he wants to be Britain’s “first Jewish PM”. He apparently has no ambitions to be its most historically informed. As any fule kno, Benjamin Disrael--one of the greatest PMs there ever was--was Jewish. Yes, he converted to Christianity. But Ed Miliband doesn’t even believe in God and describes himself as a “Jewish atheist”--so we’re talking about ethnic identity here, not religion. And Disraeli was keenly aware of his ethnicity, calling himself "the blank page between the Old Testament and the New". He said that he regarded the Christian church as "the only Jewish institution that remains

The political Twittersphere erupted into guffaws Saturday after a women´s lifestyle magazine published a soft profile of ABC journalist Claire Shipman--the wife of White House Press Secretary Jay Carney--and applied ham-fisted Photoshop edits to a photo of the family bookshelf. Now it´s not so empty. [Snip] A dozen or more cut-and-paste operations later, 12-year-old Hugo Carney´s left pinky finger wound up halfway across the room, left behind when a book jacket was cloned. The percentage of family doctors supporting the UK Independence Party has surged from 0.3 percent at the last general election to a new high of 7.3 percent, almost double the amount planning to vote Liberal Democrat. The figures, compiled by GP magazine, also show a sharp decline in Conservative support. At the last election, they were easily the most popular party, with 45 percent of General Practitioners (GPs) planning to vote for them. Now, just 16.6 percent continue to back the party. Labour are now the most popular party among GPs, although they still only have 18.4 percent support. This may

The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has hit a record high ComRes poll rating, as the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties both drop points. UKIP is now polling at 20 percent, while Britain´s traditional third party, the Liberal Democrats, have sunk to just 7. The Independent on Sunday and Sunday Mirror poll shows Labour (35 percent) increasing its lead to six points over the Conservative Party (29 percent), with the libertarian, small-government UKIP hot on the heels of Cameron´s party following the resignation of cabinet minister Maria Miller last week. The poll results also reflect the two debate victories that UKIP leader Nigel

The widow of Apple Computer founder Steve Jobs is ´ready´ for Hillary Clinton, and she´s written a hefty check to prove it. Laurene Powell Jobs has given $25,000 to the ´Ready for Hillary´ super PAC, a political campaign organization that has raised more than $4 million to lay the groundwork needed for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s expected White House run. Sharon Elghanayan Corzine, the wife of former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, also put $25,000 on the table. Following the massacre of grammar-school children in Newtown, Conn., in December 2012, high-powered weapons have been used to kill innocent victims in more senseless public incidents. Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
