Obama vs. Obama

A major peculiarity of Obama´s recent promises involving his upcoming "Year of Action" is that the chief enemy he´s sworn to overcome is none other than... Barack Obama. Consider "income inequality." As far as this can be said to actually exist, it´s a function of certain sectors of the financial industry reaping massive windfalls over the past few years while the rest of the country has stagnated under the burden of the recession. The Three Christs of Obamanism

I start with an apology to faithful Christians who believe in one Christ the Savior. This column is not about religion, but about a classical psychological study of three mental patients in Ypsilanti, Michigan, each of whom believed he was the true Christ. The study appeared in 1964, called The Three Christs of Ypsilanti. (snip) False prophets are typically megalomaniacs, but they are also charismatic, so they can persuade others to validate their deadly fantasies. Jim Jones was one. We have seen others. False prophets often bring mass tragedy in their wake. Or, to put it differently, there is hardly a

Yesterday, President Obama delivered a speech to an audience at the Justice Department on NSA telephone spying that, in typical fashion, said very little of substance but sounded nice until you paid attention. Almost every change announced included a backdoor that vitiated any substantial change. (snip) Obama is behaving like a tyrant, but doing it sneakily, with the connivance of a mainstream media that refuses to present to their audience the alarming stories of what is really going on. The low information majority is blissfully unaware that the organs of state power are being mobilized to suppress Obama´s political opponents. In

Did you hear about the students at a famous university who have gotten upset because a member of a small racial minority there was pictured in an ad directed at the student body? For some reason, the national media doesn't find this anti-diversity position of much interest. However, local media have the story. WTOP-TV Washington reports: A Giant grocery store ad welcoming back Howard University students from winter break has rankled the Howard community because the ad pictured a young, white female. The vast majority of students at Howard, a historically black university, are African-American.

The poor whites of Appalachia may have become unfashionable, but they have not gone anywhere. The current political left´s obsession with both income inequality and so called White Privilege overlooks a lot of history. How quickly does the left forget. Or perhaps it is more a matter of fashion. In 1964, when LBJ declared his War on Poverty, the area he mentioned by name was not the urban ghettos of Detroit, Watts or Harlem but rather the isolated rural counties of Eastern Kentucky. Four years later, in 1968, Bobby Kennedy decided to run for the presidency mere days after touring

Liberal self-congratulation: hilarious,

A new breed of website has sprung up, powered by social media, in which liberals congratulate themselves, and attempt to provide spiritual instruction on improving the world through their ideology. (snip) many people find the discipline of genuine religions daunting, unpleasant, and a general buzz-kill. Liberalism offers hedonism and self-congratulation in place of genuine contact with the numinous. It may not have any depth to it, but for those inclined to reject everything that came from their forbearers´ world, convinced that they have found a better, or at least a more pleasant approach to life, liberalism is a decent crutch.

In direct contradiction of the First Amendment, which forbids the establishing of a state religion, the Obama administration is busily doing just that. Meanwhile, it is attempting forced conversion of the reluctant, all the while targeting Christians and Orthodox Jews as people who are continually violating the establishment of religion clause. Just what religion is our current administration establishing in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States? It is establishing the faith of secular statism, a religion currently characterized by the tenets of radical progressivism. Statism is rapidly becoming the only faith in America allowed to operate with complete freedom.

Gov. Cuomo has a message for conservative Republicans — you don’t belong in New York. Cuomo said Friday that members of the GOP with “extreme” views are creating an identity crisis for their party and represent a bigger worry than Democrats such as himself. “Their problem isn’t me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves,” the governor said on Albany’s The Capitol Pressroom radio show. “Who are they? On the Sunday afternoon before Thanksgiving, Barack Obama sat in the office cabin of Air Force One wearing a look of heavy-lidded annoyance. The Affordable Care Act, his signature domestic achievement and, for all its limitations, the most ambitious social legislation since the Great Society, half a century ago, was in jeopardy. His approval rating was down to forty per cent—lower than George W. Bush’s in December of 2005, when Bush admitted that the decision to invade Iraq had been based on intelligence that “turned out to be wrong.” Also, Obama said thickly, “I’ve got a fat lip.” That morning,

Wendy Davis has made her personal story of struggle and success a centerpiece of her campaign to become the first Democrat elected governor of Texas in almost a quarter-century.While her state Senate filibuster last year captured national attention, it is her biography — a divorced teenage mother living in a trailer who earned her way to Harvard and political achievement — that her team is using to attract voters and boost fundraising. The basic elements of the narrative are true, but the full story of Davis’ life is more complicated, as often happens when public figures aim to define themselves. A federal commission rejected three states’ requests to ask voters for proof of citizenship, issuing a complex decision Friday that said it’s up to the national government, not the states, to decide what to include on registration forms. Under the motor-voter law, federal officials distribute voter-registration forms in all of the states. Arizona, Kansas and Georgia all asked that those forms request proof of citizenship, but the federal Election Assistance Commission rejected that in a 46-page ruling. The EAC said states can check driver’s license databases or ask federal immigration authorities for information, but they cannot tell the federal government

It wasn’t enough that Texas refused to set up a state insurance exchange or expand Medicaid under the new Affordable Care Act, causing the federal government to step in and create a marketplace for Texans needing healthcare coverage. No, this state, through its top Republican leaders, devised a sinister plan to sabotage the ACA (or Obamacare) altogether. And in doing so, it threw up major roadblocks for millions in this state who are uninsured. These leaders ought to be ashamed, but I learned a long time ago that (in the words of poet Nikki Giovanni) they ain’t got no shame. To assist with educating

A recent conversation with a veteran of GOP presidential campaigns raised this question: Which, if any, of the recent battleground states are likely to become more Republican by 2016? The consensus: very few. That reality highlights one problem Republicans face as they seek to regain the White House after six years under President Obama. Lots of factors affect elections: the quality of the candidates, the state of the economy, the effectiveness of the campaigns. But in a country whose demographics continue to change, Republicans will begin this campaign with one significant disadvantage. Over the past three decades, the political leanings of

As a binge-TV watcher, I’ve relished devouring serial dramas in advertising-free gulps. But “Breaking Bad” — the story about a cancer-stricken chemistry teacher turned clandestine meth-cooking badass – didn’t appeal. Then Anthony Hopkins declared it an “epic work” with “the best actors I’ve ever seen.” Midway through season two, I understand why Walter White is heroic. As men increasingly check out of work, marriage, and fatherhood, it’s hard not to root for a man fiercely determined to secure his family’s future before dying – despite his morally abhorrent methods. A bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report on Benghazi was released this week, which placed blame on the State Department and intelligence agencies for the failures that led to the death of four Americans on Sept. 11, 2012. Discussing the report’s findings with Piers Morgan, Sen. John McCain laid into the State Department and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for their mishandling of the situation—but that’s when things took a rather unusual turn. Morgan actually attempted to deflect some of the blame to Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was killed during the attack:

St. Louis — A walk down the 6-mile city street named for the Rev.
