Robert Gates´s memoirs add
to the sense that Obama´s
presidency is unravelling

Telegraph [UK], by Peter Foster

Original Article

Maintaining presidential authority--or even dignity in Bill Clinton´s case--into a second term is always difficult, and today another layer of gloss is stripped from Barack Obama´s reputation with the publication of the first extracts of a memoir by his former Secretary of Defence, Robert Gates.[Snip] And we know that his first term administration was run by a bunch of control freaks who centralised control of national security policy, undercutting and upstaging the Pentagon and the State Department to maintain that control. But the fact that this truth-telling comes from Robert Gates, a Republican who cut the figure of a non-partisan

It´s so good to read the regular Telegraph columnists and see how they use their talents to objectively (and figuratively) kick Obama in his nether sit-upon regions.

Best line from the article, "and we know that his first term administration was run by a bunch of control freaks who centralised control of national security policy, undercutting and upstaging the Pentagon and the State Department to maintain that control".

Names mentioned in other articles on this topic mentioned: ValJar, Daley, Gibbs, Axelrod, Emanuel.

As I opined yesterday, Gates´s book contains no revelations, just confirmations. None of this comes as a surprise. The ´story´ is that Gates has made public what nearly everyone already knew or suspected.

There has never been any there, there, just a Chicago pol with a TelePrompter.

The end,for me, is the best part of the article:
The White House has already tried to defend itself, but almost immediately crossed the threshold of ludicrousness by describing Joe Biden, the accident-prone vice president as "one of the leading statesmen of his time" in response to Mr Gates´s contention that Biden had been wrong on every major foreign policy issue in the last 40 years.
Mr Biden is many things – a useful foil, a skilled Congressional negotiator, a folksy stump politician – but "leading statesman" is beyond funny.
It´s also the kind of reflex over-reaction that is provoked by the sting of truth. And coming from a figure like Mr Gates, the truth sure hurts.

Obie´s anger and purpose dissociated from his inner "self" well before he ever became president. His inner self has in turn dissociated from the position he currently holds. The position he currently holds is now in a political and moral vacuum.

Unlike normal people, Obamabots will be loyal despite a hundred or thousand books or articles written. They are the same folks who believe in global warming/climate change. They are the loudmouths of the world who will be singing his praises until the end of time. Truth matters little to them. It´s all about what they believe. Nothing is going to shake their feelings. However, regular Americans who may have voted for Obama but know in their gut something is very wrong in this country will be persuaded by the words of Sec. Gates. I hope this is the first of many books and articles that will expose what we always knew. Obama is an unworthy, incompetent, political animal who means to destroy the very things that make us Americans.

#7, Agreed. I believe Gates stayed as SecDef as long as he did out of a sense of "Duty" to do the best he could to blunt the incompetence coming out of the Chicago White House Gang.

I also believe he knew when he left the position a left wing political hack would be appointed in his place. Think Panetta.

To me the big revelation in this is that "his first term administration was run by a bunch of control freaks who centralised (POLITICAL) control of national security policy, undercutting and upstaging the Pentagon and the State Department to maintain that control."

That is, for the first time in this nation´s history the main group of national security advisors was not in fact expert in nor focused on national security but on political and ideological optics. And in so doing, these apparatchiks reined in and redirected our military leaders and even field commanders in order to make sure that war operations were not so much dictated by the need to beat the enemy and protect our troops as by their overriding political considerations.

Pretty damning for a "Commander in Chief" whose most sacred duty is to protect our nation.

The Gates book is a mouseburger of a memoir--every criticism of Hillary, Obama, Biden etc. is hedged with praise of the same people. No one would be interested in these ´memoirs´ except for a few critical quotes. Thus they are included to get the book sold. Average Americans don´t even know who this guy is, much less does it make a difference, yet here we are clutching this guy to our chest who was nothing but an enabler. If Gates had a scrap of honor, he should have exposed Obama, Hillary and Biden on the public record with Congress and resigned, not retired.

What WILL affect the public is Obamacare when the high rates, bad coverage and death panels start to kick in. All this is a distraction and a manipulation to give us ´false hope´. Heck, average Americans haven´t realized that you won´t be able to buy an Edison (incandescent) bulb anymore, thanks to GWB, and our Republicans in Congress nor the public haven´t done a damn thing about THAT! Obama isn´t going anywhere but on vacation, as ValJar´s running things anyway.

#15 right on. Yes, Gates was an enabler. If he had any integrity he never could have served under Obama. The same goes for the top brass. Knowing what Obama is, they should have resigned en masse. Instead they became enablers of the politicizing of the military on everything from gays to indoctrination in domestic posse comitatus operations.

Who could be shocked that Obama was against the surge. He campaigned against the Bush wars. Who could be shocked that everything he does is political? He´s a politician.

So true, Ldotters, Gates is the worst kind of enabler, quietly giving up all those years, witnessing, agreeing, participating in, the continuous crimes of Obama and his communist driven, Muslim masked, cabal of destruction.
The enabler makes it easy for the addict to continue his destructive path of addiction. And Gates did that.

That´s the bad news. Gates may not have wanted to jeopardize his various multi-dipper government retirement schemes, that´s more shockingly bad news (and it should be checked out; how Fat are his monthly government checks?).
The good news is: one more enlarging leak in the dam of Obama´ destruction of America . The good news is that a giant New York publisher, Random House, with solid left wing, socialist leanings, has actually come out with a book that is seriously critical of this communist monster. Like the outrage provoking Palin, Breitbart, Levin, Steyn, Snowden, Gates is, in his own, mild mannered, cautious way, going against the suffocating establishment. Bravo!

Gates, on the other hand, well, stay around long enough to get that Medal of Freedom and write a book all the while living very comfortably in this country.

They´re a lot of dead American Patriots lying in Arlington National Cemetery and other cemeteries who are unable to comment on Gates´ book.

Gates is a smart, courageous man, keeping silent about his horrible experience, meanwhile writing a book and recording his honest observations. Yes, he´ll make money from his book but he deserves payment for his work and the pressure in such a situation (thinking of people who have died suddenly, and wondering if he might be targeted?). I believe he DID stay in his position because he was trying to do the best for the country. He didn´t need to go along to get along, he could have resigned.

Gates has added many huge Yule-size logs to the ever-growing bonfire of kindling causing Obama´s lofo/nofo reputation to start going up in thick smoke. He needed to hit Obama at a weak point and he definitely accomplished that.

Now--think back to before Obama announced he was running again. I believed then, as now, that Michelle didn´t want him to run again but he listened to his minions and told her he would run. That was when Michelle flounced off to Spain with a bunch of HER friends, on an "I´ll show HIM!" trip. Or possibly he didn´t want to run and she wanted him to. One or the other.

This time is similar. Did Obama tell her he might step down? Whatever the trigger, last time Michelle left Obama to his own damn party with HIS friends, this time she´s having a lovely pre-party with HER friends (with proverbial groaning tables of luscious food--Daily Mail photos will tell!) at Oprah´s house and his friends are invited to the White House snacks party. (I bet those invitations--"Eat before you come!"--were a shock to Obama.) Too, it´s possible that Michelle is cementing connections for life after the White House. A TV show?

Deep in the flat and featureless landscape of eastern Ukraine, it is all too possible that the outline of World War III is taking shape. Whipped up by the Kremlin propaganda machine and led by Russian military intelligence, armed men are erecting road blocks, storming police stations and ripping down the country’s flag. They are demolishing not just their own country — bankrupt, ill-run and beleaguered — but also the post-war order that has kept most of Europe and us, here in Britain, safe and free for decades. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

With Easter soon approaching, the Rev. Al Sharpton on Wednesday drew parallels between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of President Obama’s political career. Joining the “Tom Joyner Morning Show,” Mr. Sharpton said that his message for this Easter is that “no matter what the world may do to you unfairly, no matter how you’re crucified — nailed to the cross at home, or in your personal relationships, or on the job — that you can rise if you don’t lose yourself during the hard times and the challenges.” The reverend went on to say that Christ endured so much humiliation and unearned suffering leading up to his death,

Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to
