Fox’s Ed Henry Asks Jay Carney
if Taxpayers Will Pay to Fly

President Obama‘s and First Lady Michelle Obama‘s vacations have long been a topic of particular fascination for some media outlets, and a detail about their latest hiatus came up at the end of Monday’s White House daily briefing. As White House Press Secretary Jay Carney tried to scoot off to a 2 pm meeting with the President and his advisers, Fox News Chief White House Correspondent Ed Henry cut in to ask Carney if the President would be paying for Mrs. Obama’s flight home, since her extended vacation is an early birthday present. “The First Lady stayed behind in Hawaii,

"As with all personal travel, the first family will appropriately fund personal expenses, Ed, and in line with past presidents and first ladies,” Carney responded, adding “The First Lady will travel via government aircraft, but ..."

Yeah, sure, like the Big Mooche is gonna cut a check for $100K, pay for a chartered 747 aircraft 6,000 miles.

Lying thieves.

As with everything Carney says, you have to parse it to get to the truth. Personal expenses for personal travel means restaurant and shaved ice bills, not actual travel. And it´s not just the air travel - how about those multi car motorcades to get Mooch to Orca´s house? I´d bet my farm that zippy isn´t paying for that part of "his gift".

Can anyone name the last "first lady" who spent a month in Hawaii (17 days with "hubby") and the rest with Oprah at TAXPAYER expense? Thought so...So tired of the old "as with past presidents and their families". jaybird carniboy is a joke and if it were any other "administration" he would be an embarrassment. The "clay-footed-messiah" and his minions in the ´msm"/democrat party have less than 3 years left and it seems like an eternity.. Can´t wait for November this year!

IIRC, the first family and guests only have to reimburse We The People the cost of a first class ticket from Point A to Point B. It doesn´t begin to cover the cost of security, the plane, the cost of fuel, etc.

Who is telling Zippy what to do since ValJar is on this extended trip with Mooch?

What happened to the President and first family visiting their HOME? Who is staying in the house in Chicago? Have they ever gone back to Chicago since taking over our house? Typical of them.. use the dirty politics of the Chicago machine to get elected, but they don´t give a damn about them.

We can only hope he will "retire" to HI in 3 years, but don´t count on it. Look for him to find lavish place in NY like PIAPS, to be near the UN, doncha know.

I´m the odd man out on this, but I´ve never felt that Presidential (and wives´) vacations were a big deal. Yes, I know they cost money. But the Presidency is an incredibly high-pressure job, and they live in a fishbowl 24/7. Just because I happen not to agree with virtually everything this President stands for doesn´t make that any less true. JMHO.

As far as the worms paying for ANY costs associated with the Hawaii trip, I would guess that every penny will be paid by us, even down to the sno´ cones. This fits right in with the policy of handouts to just about everyone. They are ´entitled´ to it, don´t you know.

Let us make this simple. 30% of all federal spending is borrowed. So if the vacation direct cost are one million dollars, the President should pay at least three hundred thousand dollars.

We borrow the the 300 thousand on an interest only loan, (bonds or IOU´s) which cost millions over time!

Extrapolate this to all spending, that interest only loan which is similar to some of the mortgage loans sold to customers is how we are operating today! The end must come! Spent the money on personal expenses pay the 30% that will get their attention!

Biden even had to borrow money to pay for someones lunch, he didn´t have the cash, credit, debit or EBT card! Out of touch, who is out of touch?

U.S. military assets in the Black Sea are on high alert amid reports Ukraine troops traded gunfire Tuesday with pro-Russian militants. A journalist with Associated Press reported intense gunfire at an airport in eastern Ukraine after the government sent in army troops to retake control from militiamen loyal to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The mayor of Kramatorsk told the Associated Press that Ukrainian troops have now occupied the military airport and are blocking its entrance. The action comes a day after the revelation a Russian fighter jetted buzzed a U.S.S. destroyer multiple times over the Black Sea.

House Democrats are rolling out a new strategy to target 30 House Republicans on immigration reform during the two-week congressional recess, marking a last-ditch effort to force GOP action on a legislative overhaul. The new pressure tactic includes a memo distributed to those 30 districts held by Republicans who have expressed public support for some sort of immigration reform, many of them backing a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States. Democrats hope the document — which highlights statements made by those Republicans in favor of reform, as well as data showing the district-specific economic

Scott Walker has a 16 point lead (56-40) among likely voters in his race for governor, according to a poll from Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert’s. Among registered voters, his lead is essentially the same (55-40). The survey was conducted between March 24 and April 3. A Marquette University survey conducted between March 20-23 also showed Walker with a nice, though smaller, lead. In that poll, Walker outdistanced Democrat Mary Burke 48-41. Revealingly, Walker fares well in an electorate that does not seem particularly conservative and that, if anything, appears to be slightly to the left of American voters in general.

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive

A Russian fighter jet made multiple, close-range passes near an American warship in the Black Sea for more than 90 minutes Saturday amid escalating tensions in the region, a U.S. military official said Monday. In the first public account of the incident, the official said the Russian Fencer flew within 1,000 yards of the USS Donald Cook, a Navy destroyer, at about 500 feet above sea level. Ship commanders considered the actions provocative and inconsistent with international agreements, prompting the ship to issue several radio queries and warnings. The fighter appeared to be unarmed and never was in danger of
