Has A&E Awakened a Sleeping Giant?
American Thinker, by Robert Arvay

Original Article

Posted By:DW626, 12/23/2013 6:09:27 AM

While the Japanese were celebrating the bombing of Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, the mastermind of that attack, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, had a sobering message for his countrymen. "We have awakened a sleeping giant," he said. Even before the war began, the admiral had warned his emperor that Japan would enjoy early victories in any war with the United States, but that winning streak would last only six months to a year, after which American industrial might would inevitably overwhelm the small island nation. He was right. For the first few months of World War II, the Japanese war machine steamrolled

I hope so. I am tired down to my toes at the coarseness of our modern culture. I am sick of having valued I hold dear sneered at by hipsters like pajama boy.

I think I will go to Chick-fil-A for lunch today.

First, it was racism. Then, it was homophobia.

The left can only cry wolf for so long before everybody stops listening to them. By the time they come to realize the damage that they have done, it will be acceptable to call a homo spade a homo spade, again.

I remember a similar reaction when Reagan was first elected in 1980. The 1970s were a terrible time for Conservatives when we didn´t display the flag or say we were proud to be Americans. But then Reagan was elected and "the silent majority" found our voice again. Sales of the American flag went through the roof, all because Reagan talked about his love for his country.

I am surprised the author didn´t finish Yamamoto´s quote...."and filled him with a terrible resolve". I wonder, do we have any great admirals or generals left to warn our emperor where HE is going wrong?

racist and Homophobia are mythical words used by liberals when they have lost an argument to a normal person. The more people that recognize that fact, the fewer people that will be offended by those two bogus labels.

Of course a few lawsuits for slander, won by normal people, would help minimize those two liberal words.

There´s a lot of money involved here. The Robertsons are making a lot of money. A&E is making a lot of money. It´s a chain of money-making. When it comes to the entertainment industry, money talks and nothing else matters.

I think it is slowly dawning on the LGBT industry that it might not have been such a great idea to tweak this tiger´s tail. The coming backlash will be wonderful to watch.

And while I grow weary of the daily stories about Duck Dynasty...I am eargerly awaiting Phil Robertson´s family decision on what to do with A&E. They are waiting till Christmas passes as it is an important holiday in their family (as it is to all of us, too) and they do not wish to besmirch the beauty of the season.

We have heard from them once——the next time it will be very interesting. I promise you they are not nearly so fascinated with the Duck Dynasty story as the mainstream media right now.

I don’t know about awakened, but maybe we’ve got one eye open.

That would be a start.

I won’t be convinced that we’ve actually awakened until I start seeing small school districts around the nation actually stand up and fight when the ACLU and the rest of the God-Hating entities file suit to stop a prayer before a football game.

I won’t be convinced that we, Judeo-Christian America, are having our first cup of coffee until I see us stand up and fight back against the God-Haters, and we see Christ put back in Christmas in the Public Square.

It’s not just the Gay Mafia we’re up against, and they aren’t the loudest.

I won’t be convinced that you and I are in the shower, getting ready for work, until I see the Muslim Lobby beaten back and the church bells are allowed to once again ring in Dearborn, Michigan and we put a final end to the push to institute Sharia Law in this nation. That’s a Biggie and every bit as dangerous as the Gay Lobby and the God-Haters.

The God-Haters, the America-Haters are the most intolerant people known to man, and for fifty years, they have gotten away with tattooing that label on the foreheads of you and I, and we’ve kow-towed and given in and apologized and crawled on our bellies like worms, trying to show the world that we can love God and love Gays and love Muslims and love Atheists, and we can get along with everyone.

Well stated, Mr. Arvay:

I cannot say exactly how much of this came about because of "Duck Dynasty."

It was the proverbial straw that broke the camel´s back.

...I suspect there was more than one factor at work. The efforts of gays and others on the left to intimidate and silence Americans is not the only thing that Christians have become exasperated with.

Atheist and gay hysteria over public creches, crosses and Christian displays started it years ago.

A whole host of other attacks upon First Amendment rights has gradually, perhaps invisibly, built up pressure in the hearts of freedom-loving Americans.

That pressure has got to be released somehow. Christians are taught to turn the other cheek, but never at the cost of subsuming God´s law to a gangster group of gays or Atheists whose values do not represent the majority of people in this Country --- Christians.

There is a point at which we simply will not take it any more. You´d think the Chick-Fil-A debacle would have taught the intolerant tyrants a lesson. It didn´t. Now there´s the Duck Dynasty and the Cracker Barrel Wars they are losing, too.

We here may not be able to go to the front lines of this war against our religious liberty, but others are doing it for us, which is why supporting the ACLJ and Allied Defense Fund is so important. It´s what they do.

We’ve not actually embraced evil, but we’ve given it quarter, and until we get both eyes open, have our first cup of coffee, get showered and ready to go to work, we will not win.

Until we play Wack-a-Mole with them, until every time one of these God-Hating, America-Hating entities pops up and screeches or files a law suit, we fight back, we carpet bomb them until they look like Dresden, we won’t win.

Until we become every bit as Intolerant as they are, hold our ground, don’t waver, we won’t win.

How did we get to a place in this nation where a cake baker in Denver can be sued into violating his religious beliefs and forced to provide a wedding cake for a Gay couple.

Until we figure out how we got to that place and design a battle plan for defeating it, we won’t win.

The secret of communism is gaining power through stealth, propaganda, agitation, creating differences between various groups of people. Obama and Jaret are agitators, schemers of the differences of people, not
the harmony of all people. Communist seeking
agitation misguides the Al Sharptons in the gay communities, too. As we back down and not resist gay, indian, black, latino forms
of agitation, the agitators successfully cause more annoyance pressing the public to see the differences in groups and not see the harmony of all groups.
The agitators have free reign in T, media, academe and Hollywood, but they do not have
any power in a good restaurant, a department
store, the open farmers markets, hotels, hospitals, used car lots, baseball and football games, all the places where the MARKET SERVES EVERYBODY ! DUCK DYNASTY is the market place of ideas where there is no
fake, commie agitation, and the A&E commies
can´t stand the good thing they have.

It´s amazing that the comments were made in an OBSCURE magazine, NOT ON THE SHOW ITSELF.
How can A&E have grounds (other than agitation)?

This little spat would be different if the "gay community" were simply honorable victims of society´s prejudices but they are not. They are mean, guilty, soulless deviants who try to push their nastiness in our faces. Enough! Go practice your style of religion in your own homes and shut up about it. You won´t like the repercussions.

God in His providence uses people and situations that may seem insignificant to us. Who would have thought that a family of committed Christians from the Deep South with firmly held traditional values would ever be such a hit TV show especially in this day and time. They have struck a chord with the American people. Instead of the laughingstock I believe A&E thought they would be, they triggered something in the American psyche. It was a picture of family and faith that has been pushed aside by a godless entertainment industry. With this one little show, the presence of millions of like minded families have been affirmed. What the Robertsons have taught us is that we must stay true to who we are and what we believe. God bless them. Phil Robertson may be rough around the edges like John the Baptist but his message is all about redemption.

#11. The Robertson family doesn´t care about money. They are wealthy from their duck call business. In spite of their wealth, Phil and Kay still live in the same double-wide they have lived in since the children were at home. They can afford to build a new house on their 20,000 acres but they are happy and content with what they have. The boys live in nice houses but nothing Beverly Hills worthy. A&E needs the Robertsons. Not the other way around. Once again the leftist Hollywood yuppie types assumed everyone was just like them and would do anything for the almighty dollar. And once again they are judging everyone from their point of view. With the Robertson family, that point of view has been refracted like light through a prism.

We should all be practicing our indignation and start standing up when we are offended. Say it with me, "that´s offensive to me" or "I am offended by that". Blessed are the meek but don´t forget Jesus ran the moneychangers out of the temple. I know its hard to make the transition but its time to crack the whip and turn over some tables.

Sorry, #11, that´s patently false. G-rated films are by far the most profitable; Hollywood only grudgingly makes them. There´s a vast market for family-friendly fare (see the recent success of TSoM); Hollywood mocks the production. True Biblical stories are guaranteed blockbusters; again, Hollywood degenerates their success.

Today´s ´´hit´´ shows would have been cancelled for horrible ratings just a few years ago. People are abandoning Hollywood by droves because it refuses to give the consumer what it wants. And there is no sign any of that is going to change. Like the media, they´ll go bankrupt before admitting their point-of-view is toxic.

The gay argument against Phil Robertson appears to be this: "I am tolerant. You don´t agree with me in my belief that homosexual practices are morally acceptable but deign to voice the opinion that they are sinful according to the Bible. You also reveal respect for the view that God demands atonement for homosexual (sinful) acts. Because I am the tolerant one, I demand that you must be belittled and punished for voicing your opinion." I actually heard a man called Bernard Whitman say, on Megyn Kelly´s show, that life contains choices and those choices have consequences. He went on to trash Phil Robertson and applaud Robertson´s suspension with no sense of irony that he was saying exactly the same thing as Robertson had said...except that he was cheering man-made consequences while Robertson was citing what the Bible says.

The LGBT community (tiny that it is) and also the Civil Rights Movement was never about equality or acceptance but total capitulation to them and their movements.

#15 & #22 thank you for encouraging donations to ACLJ and Allied Defense Fund (ADF). ACLJ´s Jay Sekulow is one of my favorite "warriors" on our side. Jay has argued 12 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court - including several landmark cases in the area of religious liberty litigation. The ADF is also working tirelessly for religious freedom. Both organizations should be supported by those who value the U.S. Constitution and traditional American values.

These anti-Christian believers have a lot of work ahead of them. First, they have to completely destroy the Duck Dynasty family, then have all references to "God" removed from every public building, our historical documents, our currency, politicians´ speeches, etc.

Their next challenge will be to create a new ´calendar´…….and they´ll have to dismiss and debunk the "B.C. and A.D.", and all that stuff. Maybe they will then create a totally new calendar system, etc. A tall order, but if there´s a way for them to accomplish all this, they will.

What fools to spend their precious time here on earth, and their energy and emotion battling and seeking to diminish what others believe. These pitiful people are at least on the offensive against christianity - not defensive….big difference and it says a lot about who they are.

And then, when they have completely conquered all reference to God and christianity, they can go after Allah. They may want to reconsider this, as Allah´s followers will probably not lie down and surrender, as they´re hoping christians do.

The SCOTUS made a mistake when they disallowed state laws criminalizing homosexual behavior a few years ago. That decision, like Roe v Wade, has aroused a vast national hostility of one faction versus another, with the anti-homosexuality group being in the great majority.

This one event has shaken the far left more than any I can think of short of Obamacare. People of faith (all races and religions) hadn´t pushed back against their debauchery and so they assumed faith had retreated. Progressives believed that society had "finally" devolved into a post-religious era.

They believed the new axiom was "just because the Bible says something, so what?". "Practicing" Catholics could now support abortion, the Pope could be made their Person of the Year, etc... Claiming one´s faith to them was now no more than a Clintonesque deception.

When this issue hit the airwaves, and GLAAD made their outrageous demands, I heard a large snap! It was like Chick-fil-A reaction on steroids. Even Obama wouldn´t touch it. A&E, ABC, Disney and GLAAD will feel the rage. The boycotts are for real. It´s about time! Let´s keep it going.

This is about much more than Duck Dynasty.

Its about silencing anyone that speaks out against sin. Do NOT tolerate this.

Sin is offensive to God, but sin is also harmful towards others and the sinners themselves. It is destructive and self-destructive.

A person cannot speak out against homosexuality. A person cannot speak out against abortion. A person cannot speak out about black, hispanic, islamic crime. A person cannot speak out against large oppressive corrupt thieving government. How many other things are we encouraged to ignore?

A disturbing pattern emerges.

It´s not just the bullying by the left; it´s the incredible coarseness of our culture today. Hollywood and much of television feels no sense of decency or decorum. Its default position is, ´when in doubt, throw in explicit, disgusting sexual references; they´ll be funny.´ This all represents a failure of imagination and literary skill, combined with a desire to promote a secular, self-indulgent, ´liberal´ in all the bad senses world view. It´s time to take a stand and say, ´Enough and no more.´ Go Phil.

Homosexuals have misused and abused the sudden wide acceptance they have received in the contemporary culture during the past few years. They have caused damage to society and are actively harming natural families by throwing their lot with the family hostile agenda of the Left. Many people agree with this but are afraid to speak out esp if they are in public life and have access to wider communications. Duck Dynasty and Robertson have touched this hidden nerve.

Today, with all the controversy swirling, I have made a decision. I am coming out of the closet and the people on this site will be the first to know: I am a racist, homophobic bigot.

I am a racist because after a lifetime of interacting (some say successfully) with people of all races all over this rock we live on, I still believe that Western Civilization is the best thing that ever happened to this planet and that, although the Greeks planted the seed, the Judeo/Christian ethos made it possible and lasting - at least so far. According to PC standards that makes me a racist.

I am a homophobe because I prefer Sean Hannity to Anderson Cooper and Cameron Diaz or Anne Hathaway to Ellen Degeneres - by a wide, wide margin.

I am a bigot because - wait, I guess I´m not a bigot after all. I don´t hate anybody - except maybe the Muslim butchers who would slaughter us each and every one if they could.

Well, I´m still coming out, 2 out of 3 ain´t bad.

As far as DD´s future on A&E is concerned, I don´t see how the Robertson´s will ever be able to resume their former relationship with the network.
A&E execs are probably under the delusion that Phil will offer a heartfelt mea culpa and submit to some form of sensitivity training or make a contrite appearance on Oprah´s couch whereby he will denounce the vile way he spoke about homos yada, yada, yada.
And that ain´t never gonna happen.
I will not be satisfied until the idiot who put Phil on "hiatus" apologizes to Phil and the entire DD viewing audience, and then proceeds to beg the Robertson clan to remain on A&E. Then, that person must resign from A&E.
Only then should the Robertson´s decide what they should do. My vote would be for them to forgive all parties who have tried to harm them, and then take their billion dollar franchise somewhere else. Hurting A&E permanently is the only way to teach the entertainment industry, sponsors and GLAAD a lesson that they won´t soon forget.
As a huge fan of Phil and the show, I would happily forego my usual Wednesday DD viewing for a while as the family transitions to another medium that is friendlier to Christians and deaf to the hateful rants of politically correct organizations who are trying to destroy the moral fabric this nation.

It is difficult for the LGBT group to maintain credibility when they hold events like the icky Gay Pride events. Just disgusting. I believe that being gay is not always a choice but innate. And it is often a difficult life. BUT THEY MAKE IT WORSE!!!! They intensify our disgust with their awful X rated behavior. And trying to make us think it´s natural and normal is self-defeating. They should just try to help us understand their plight and stay low key.

I take this opportunity to mention that many blacks would rightfully feel better about life before 1965. Note this article from which I excerpt a quotation of Thomas Sowell:

http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/lt1800/the-failure-of-the-war-on-poverty

"The poverty rate among black families fell from 87 percent in 1940 to 47 percent in 1960, during an era of virtually no major civil rights legislation or anti-poverty programs. It dropped another 17 percentage points during the decade of the 1960s and one percentage point during the 1970s, but this continuation of the previous trend was neither unprecedented nor something to be arbitrarily attributed to the programs like the War on Poverty.

In various skilled trades, the incomes of blacks relative to whites more than doubled between 1936 and 1959 — that is, before the magic 1960s decade when supposedly all progress began. The rise of blacks in professional and other high-level occupations was greater in the five years preceding the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than in the five years afterwards."

It isn´t just that A&E took the PC route, but they felt confident in siding with any and all anti Christian groups against any common sense they may have had. If you are a TV network, the bottom line should be the first step in any discussions of suspensions and the aftermath of your decision.

I don´t think the Robertson´s are going back to A&E and rightfully so. Perhaps A&E could replace their show with something more in line with A&E´s PC leanings. Something Gay perhaps.

Back during the ´68 Presidential campaign, Hubert Humphrey put his arm around Georgia governor Lester "Ax Handle" Maddox and paraphrased our Lord by saying "The Democratic Party is a house of many rooms". And now, 45 years later I´ll paraphrase Hubert Humphrey by saying "America is a house of many rooms and 2.8% of them are closets." Live with it leftoids.

We believe in Canada you can´t say homosexuality is a sin. That´s where the LGBT community wants our country to go!

They can´t accept live and let live, they must have us publicly support them and what they want to do. They are like the radical Muslims in that regard.

...Its easy to be sickened by the compliance of our friends and family to the attack on our freedoms. Its also a fact of life that most people wish to be led. It is our jobs as conservatives to "CONSERVE" our freedoms; and we must lead. The followers will follow our success.
I find the most successful, persuasive statement regarding homosexualality is to calmly explain what the physical act is. With that the "followers" surrender their isolation from fact and abandon the comfort provided by the fourth estate.

Just my opinion, but I believe all this coarseness and other stuff got a good start during the Clinton years, to wit: boxers or briefs. He salted away so many liberal judges who continue to do damage and anything to do with sex just became a subject to be discussed (or acted on) anywhere at anytime. Now we will have the liberal judges put in place by Zippy [THANKYOUVERYMUCHDINGY!) who will be doing their thing for years to come if we last that long.

There has never been a public "debate", or as the liberals like to say, a "national discussion" on homosexuality and the legality of it. At one time it was a crime in this country and considered a psychosis by the American Psychiatric Society. One look a any "Gay Pride Parade" in San Francisco proves the point. Sexual mutts dressed up like drag queen Nuns, and glittered up tranny-whores, is enough to make one beg the Almighty for a Sodom & Gomorrah solution on San Fran.

God made a woman from Adam, as a "helpmate." He did not make another male. It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!

God has never condoned same-sex anything, nor heterosexual aberrations, like polygamy. If those things are ever mentioned in Scripture it´s to teach us the ramifications of not being in God´s Plan. David and Solomon were womanizers and at the same time were the most miserable men alive. In fact, God´s Law in Leviticus makes it pretty clear that anyone caught in the act of homosexuality was to be put to death. The reason is clear - it leads to national degeneracy and weakening of the nation, and tiny Israel could not afford any "limp-wristed" spear throwers defending them. It´s highly unlikely that God has changed His mind about homos in this current Church Age either.

Homosexuality is a sin of degeneracy and destructive to the nation. It must be abolished first in the Military then State and Federal jobs, including elected representatives.

Leviticus 20:13
If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Amen #39, I plead guilty also. Barry Soetoro, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and their fellow black racists have reversed all of the progress made by MLK and have awakened that little spark of racial intolerance that exists in the backs of all of our minds. Homosexuals have never really been accepted by mainstream society but at least we had stopped beating them in the streets.

No more! I am a forgiving Christian but I am not a doormat. Get in my face and you will be removed - forcefully.

Shall we admit that in the course of testing a powerful nation as to their acceptance of God´s laws comes the testing of that nation´s people. If those people fail to stand for decency and chose honorable lives that nation is forfeit.
Harsh actions were replaced with the the concept of Love by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Do you deny that killing a sinner is murder and only God has the right to pass that judgment?
That does not mean that God´s people should allow sin to rule . It does mean that we also cannot show the same sins against those sinners in our efforts to right the wrongs we have allowed to flourish.
Just stop giving in to those demands that lets a minority destroy the nation´s existence of one nation Under God with liberty and justice for all.

The hypocrisy of the "in" crowd is breathtaking. People like Karl Rove and even Dana Perino defend Phil R with the caveat, "even though he was coarse," or, "he used vulgar language". Whoa! Listen to yourselves! Phil used perfectly correct medical terminology to describe the homosexual act. If the words are vulgar, what about the act itself? Good, clean, wholesome fun? By legitimizing the act ,elites, the "enlightened" ones , tell kids the behavior is acceptable. The writers of the scriptures noticed that people who were promiscuous got hideous diseases, and homosexuals sickened and died. They didn´t ban these activities for no reason at all!

#27...If that was true then how did we get into the mess we are in? How did Obama get elected twice? Is this the reward that God gave us for our lack of standing tall?

I know people believe prayer is the answer to any and all problems. What strikes me is if whatever one prayed for comes true then they Praise God for answering their prayers. However, if it does not come true or goes sour, then suddenly it´s make excuse time: "God works in mysterious ways". Maybe He wants you to use his Tools.

What God does, in my humble opinion, is He gives us the tools to work with. But those tools are worthless when people can´t get off their behind, out from behind their computers, stop whining and PUT those tools to USE. If you don´t use them then don´t make excuses when he doesn´t answer your prayers.

#48...I agree on the "explain the physical act" but be very graphic. Make it so graphic that they themselves will even barf at the suggestions.

Fighting back against the Left Wing Liberal Marxist, calling them exactly what they are. People in most cities have a news reporter or a school executive or a politician in their neighborhood. If they are Liberal, don´t touch them and be accused of assault, just get in their face and let them know what Anti-American Marxist traitors they are.

This has united Bible readers of all Bible based religions IMO. About time we stood together in One Kingdom united for a change?

We have more likenesses than differences and otherwise get picked off one at a time.

Mitt Romney so "clean" the establishment liked that fact but the media ane American people thought it okay to make specials on religious underwear for Pete´s sake. Something wrong here.

Tea Party has the heart but not the savvy to fight the dem deception/ voter fraud team.

We need to unite under the establishment and they need to listen to the wiser of the tea party leaders.

Complete abortion ban is as lose lose as obama trying for the gun ban.

It would be nice if those too "pure" (in my own religious sphere)to be party affiliated also have no clue about the liberal courts and etc that the dems do.

We have done it to ourselves but many are getting the word to trust in the Better Way.

First we have to get rid of Pride, the universal sin. Now that IS a tall order.

To harken back to that time of that sleeping giant, consider Lt. Col. Henry Mucci, commanding officer of the 6th Ranger Battalion. His order to his troops (120 of them) prior to launching a mission to recuse the last survivors of the Bataan Death March held in a compound surrounded by 8,000 battled-hardened Japanese troops: There´ll be no atheists on this trip; then ordered every last one of them to meet with the chaplains and pray on their knees. He then ordered them to swear an oath to God that they would die fighting before letting any harm come to those prisoners. The sleeping giant was lead by men of faith. Just sayin.
P.S., the mission accounted for 1,000 dead enemy, with only 4 Rangers lost and all prisoners recused.

A major concern of progressives is their supposed interest in the fate of the poor. They purport to be the champions of the poor. But the truth is that they need the poor more than the poor need them, in a symbiotic relationship. As much as 75% of the money allocated to the poor is consumed by the vast bureaucracies that administer this aid. These agencies are actually job programs for college graduates who would often find it difficult to find employment in the private sector. Early on in the Genesis chapter of the Bible much is made of Adam giving names to all living creatures. Like everything about the Bible, the meaning of this event is subject to many interpretations, the most often given is that it signals man’s dominion over the other creatures of the earth. I don’t dispute that reading, but to me, the naming description signifies that there can be no real communication among people unless the names we use mean the same thing to all of us. A spade certainly is a garden implement, but if you are in the gardening

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Hank Aaron’s recent comments about the need for America to realize that racism is still very much alive and thriving — only now due to those who wear “neckties and starched shirts” rather than KKK hoods — has sparked an angry backlash and many fans are turning the tables, calling the baseball legend himself a racist. “Hank Aaron is a s*****g piece of [expletive] [racial slur],” one man said in an email to the Atlanta Braves’ front office, one of the teams Mr. Aaron used to play for, CBS News reported. “My old man instilled in my mind from a

Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.” The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth. The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform. “I’ve said before and I’ll say it

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
