Piers Morgan: First Amendment

At 9:30 a.m. on December 19th, CNN´s Piers Morgan tweeted that the First Amendment "shouldn´t protect vile bigots" like Phil Robertson. And while making this claim, Morgan also reiterated his position that the Second Amendment "shouldn´t protect assault rifle devotees." Twitchy.com posted Morgan´s tweet, as well as one he sent six minutes earlier in he which typed, "Phil Robertson is not a ´victim of political correctness.´ He´s a victim of his own repulsively racist, homophobic bigotry." When defenders of Robertson´s right to speak his mind took to Twitter to tell Morgan how the First Amendment works, Morgan hedged himself in by tweeting, "Calm

Piers Morgan has no appreciation of our 1st amendment. It in fact does allow for vile expressions of speech including a cross submerged in urine and other vile antiChristian forms of art.

Let´s see, if Piers could pick and choose what speech he likes and therefore what other people could hear, then why can´t someone like myself decide what Piers can spout off about? Mr. Morgan, live up to your own ideals. From now on you must clear all communications with me and if I don´t like it, you cannot say it.

Racist?! Where did that come from? Has anyone else noticed that the gay activists and the racial activists have apparently made a pact to come to each others events and insert themselves into debates that do not involve them?

We need to develop a term to use for one who is hateful toward and discriminates against Christians. Christaphobic? Biblist?

First Piers you European weenie Phil is not a bigot. He is tolerant of homosexuality he just doesn´t understand it. Second Piers as most Europeans you are probably a secularist Phil´s view of homosexuality as a sin is based on what the Bible says. Third you have no understanding of our First or Second Amendments having been raised in a country where you had neither. So please return home we enough bigots like you on the far left who are intolerant of anyone who disagrees with their leftist ideolology.

Morgan is from the UK, where they do not have any free speech protections. Neither does Canada, another member of the Commonwealth. Both those countries have long track records of punishing people who speak unpleasant truths.

Coming from that environment, Morgan simply cannot fathom the implications of our First Amendment rights.

He is a twit of the first order.

It is clear Mr. Morgan has never actually read the First Amendment. It is designed to protect all free speech. The exception in this case is those words considered "fighting words" under the Constitution.

That is a stretch, though, and you´d have a hard time making a case for that in Court. But with the tenuous balance in the present makeup of SCOTUS, anyone wanting to take old Phil to Court, could.

The main point is that Piers thinks that religious opinions are vile and bigoted. This says more about Piers than about old Phil.

This article is right on... FTA "Since A&E is no arm of the United States government, it´s somewhat puzzling that Morgan would even bring the First Amendment into the conversation."

This is not a First Amendment issue. Phil Robertson spoke his mind and no brown shirts showed up to haul him off to jail. Likewise, Piers Morgan, although an idiot, spoke his mind. And now, A&E is free to react however they want. That´s how it works. Hopefully, DD will move to another network and A&E will lose big time.

Has nothing to do with the First Amendment.

Everyone needs to start connecting the political party that advocates reducing the rights afforded all, to ensure the narrow group of liberals can exclude those they don´t like or want to associate with.

Democrat party.

The Democrat party linked to limits on the 1st and 2nd amendments, as well as desire to use the EPA as a tool to not only increase the cost of oil and gasoline, but to segregate people economically.

It seems to me that #22 and #23 (probably others) have a mistaken view of the Free Speech provision of the First Amendment.

In summary, it allows an individual to use his own voice and his own property to express himself as he chooses. (Freedom of Press, Religion and Assembly are corollaries of this formulation.)

It does not require any individual to assist any other individual or provide a forum. Nor to cooperate in any way, nor to continue in any prior voluntary arrangement.

It requires the federal government to stay out of the matter. (In principle, they should also not *favor* any sectarian or controversial expression or point of view.)

And it was intended specifically to protect "offensive" speech, i.e., speech that someone, somewhere would prefer didn´t occur.

Thank you for your patience.

As #26 points out, the 1st Amendment is specifically intended to protect speech that some may not like to hear.

We set up a NEW and FREE country and your opinion is not of interest. But you DO have the right to spout your ignorant drivel, as I have the right to call you a moronic drivel spouter. Go home, please.

Liberals have lately been employing a political term of abuse that was once mainly a weapon of the right. A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

The departure of Kathleen Sebelius from President Barack Obama’s cabinet removes a focal point for criticism over Obamacare’s troubled rollout, right at a moment when the White House can blunt attacks with enrollment numbers that exceeded targets. Senate confirmation hearings on the president’s choice to succeed Sebelius as Health and Human Services secretary, budget director Sylvia Mathews Burwell, will give Republicans days of media exposure for their criticism of a program that remains unpopular. Those hearings will now be held months ahead of midterm congressional elections, helping diminish the impact on voters. Sebelius’s departure also addresses demands from some Democrats for a change

Those killings, however, are only a fragment of the total harm caused by the misuse of firearms. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators. STAMFORD, Conn. — Jeb Bush defended his controversial comments about immigration reform, insisting they were nothing new for him and urging “sensitivity to the immigrant experience.” At a Connecticut Republican party dinner Thursday night, the former Republican governor of Florida did not repeat his remarks from last weekend at his father’s presidential library, when he said that people who come to the United States illegally in search of a better life for their children “broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of love.” This time the potential 2016 candidate put it differently. “To be young and

As President Obama spoke of old "wounds” at Fort Hood this week, the White House declined a request from a survivor of the 2009 massacre there to meet with Obama for a few minutes so the veteran could explain face-to-face how he believes the government has mistreated and disrespected the victims of that attack. Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford (ret.) was shot seven times in November 2009 when Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood, killing 13 people. Despite Hasan’s admission that he carried out the attack on behalf of the Taliban and revelations that he had been

Coming clearly through the throbbing of helicopters and the roar of the SUVS of the feds harassing the Cliven Bundy Ranch, patriots there for Bundy should “tell it to the judge”. There is mainstream media-suppressed case history in Nevada the feds are desperately trying to keep under wraps. Chief Judge Robert C. Jones of the Federal District Court of Nevada smacked down high-handed, abusive feds, sending the pretend cowboys riding roughshod over Western ranchers and property owners back to their cobweb-laced offices in 2013. In spite of their 200 armed snipers with boy toys in tow, those Stetson-wearing feds hunkering down on Cliven

President Obama labeled complaints about voter fraud “bogus” and accused Republicans of cynically trying to prevent Americans from accessing the polls in a fiery speech Friday at a civil rights forum hosted by Al Sharpton. Obama argued that attempts in some states to impose new voter identification restrictions were actually efforts by Republicans to make “it harder, not easier to vote.” And the president said that while voter fraud should be prevented, it rarely occurred. “So let´s be clear, the real voter fraud is the people who try to deny our rights by making bogus arguments about voter fraud,” Obama said.
