The United States named a new Full Admiral in Washington, D.C. Friday--and it´s an African American woman. She´s will be the first ever female in Naval history to win a fourth star assuming the Senate approves President Obama´s nomination. The Navy announced her nomination in an official release. Vice admiral Michelle Howard,53, is currently the deputy chief of naval operations, plans, and strategy. She will serve as the Navy´s second ranking officer, (Snip) Although when asked about whether she faces racism within the service she responded, ´Sexism within the service, and racism outside the service.´

Oh goody, an affirmative action hire with a chip on her shoulder.

Another professional victim.
If the navy is so racist, then how did she get to be an admiral?
She has an attitude remarkably similar to Obama´s petite and demure wife while she was at Princeton: one of angry entitlement.

Is she a lesbian as well? This country: JP Jones, Farragut, Nimitz, Halsey and Howard. You have to laugh or you may not stop crying. Now Obama can make sure the 5th fleet will support his takeover.

If you bother to read the article, #1, she says she did NOT encounter racism in the Navy. Sexism, yes, but the Navy was famous for that with all women years ago. She is not playing the professional victim at all and maybe it´s way past time to stop calling every woman who succeeds an affirmative action hire? Can´t some women just do a job better than some men?

At one time all military services lead the country is getting rid of racism and it wasn´t by affirmative action. That abominable policy was brought to us by liberals who just couldn´t stand to see a huge organization working well without their stupid progressive policies. Affirmative Action raised it ugly head in the late 70s under our other favorite president, Jimmie Carter.

Ronald Reagan worked hard to fix the military and correct other stupid policies put in place by Mr. Carter. We need another conservative (real conservative!) to fix oh so many things the Democrats and liberal/moderate Republicans have run into the ditch.

This woman is a highly qualified military officer. Whether or not she is qualified to be a four-star admiral is another story.

At a time when Obie is decimating the ranks of white male senior military officers, his appointment raises suspicion when it is a black woman. Bound to.

This woman does seem eminently qualified for the position. A graduate of the academy, command of a ship, and Pentagon experience give her a good base for the position. The Navy is several years behind the other services in promoting women to the top. May she do well with this promotion.

The military has become a grand social experiment. Their failure against terrorism in the Middle East should be troubling to barry. The failure of the Soviet military in Afghanistan started the ball rolling on the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Sorry, #3, but get real.
In my 42 years of professional experience, I have observed that female and minority workers have been given recognition, reward, and advancement far beyond what their white male counterparts would get with equal performance.
I am not denying that there are capable, competent--even stellar--female and minority workers; just that the rewards given to those individuals are not commensurate to their contributions. The scoring system is quite different than for white males when even barely capable females and minorities are treated as stars.
Given this, what should we infer about Michelle Howard?

Good for her. Women who take their jobs seriously sometime have to work harder than their male counterparts and overcome obstacles put in front of them on purpose.
The physical part in the military I sometimes doubt but the mental part is anyone´s game regardless of sex.
I just want to know if Obama in his low IQ dimwit being took a ´selfie´ with Admiral Michelle Howard?

I saw AA hires almost bring down a very large company in the early 80s first hand.
Government quotas not met meant practically hiring off the street. White males had to do their jobs and also the lion´s share of the AA´s job.
Some were so bad that they were promoted UP and OUT to become someone else´s problem because firing was out of the question. Until she proves herself, I will consider her a female Colin Powell.

If everyone had read the article, they might have Replied differently.

I found this to be interesting. We didn´t see the movie. Did her story make it?

This is not the first time Michelle Howard has been in the public eye. Back in October Yahoo News did a story on Howard and about how she was challenged in 2009 when she was faced with combatant Somali Pirates in the Arabian Sea when she was commander of the ship the U.S.S Boxer.

The ships captain Richard Phillips was taken hostage and it was her job to get him back. Howard spent two days trying to peacefully end the standoff. Finally a team of Navy SEALS shot the pirates on board the lifeboat and brought Captain Phillips back to safety.

The story became the 2013 film ´Captain Phillips´ starring Tom Hanks. Howard is the true hero behind the scenes.

Under the leadership of the Marxist democrats America is about to have the smallest Navy fleet since The First World War.

I guess it does not matter who is running this Politically Correct Military that is becoming so small that it is no longer a world military power.

It is also happening in the Air Force, Army and Marines.

Obama stated he did not think America should be the worlds only super power so he and the Marxist democrats are making good on his and their word.

I ask myself:
1. Given the current PC/Affirmative Action pressure from the CinC on down to the GO/FOs, would it be reasonable to conclude that this officer was selected, in part or because of her gender and/or race?
2. If so, is she less qualified than others of equal or superior quality?
I personally prefer "best" or "eminently" qualified when it comes to such professions such as MDs, Clergy, Military Leaders, and other professions where it become a matter of life and death.
If she remains a glorified paper pushing staff office, then it will work out ok. It remains to be seen if indeed she really is a hard nose warrior and leader of combat men and women.

Nice try, DM, but it was NOT her job to rescue Captain Phillips. As CO of the Boxer, she was on scene but if her part was that pivotal it surely would have been featured in the movie(!). An AA move? Good grief - this black female was nominated for a fourth star over numerous white guys who are 3 to 5 years senior to her.

According to her bio, she attained the rank of Rear Admiral (Lower Half)"1 star" in 2007.
In August 2010 she was promoted to Rear Admiral (2 star).
Just two years later, in August 2012, she was promoted to Vice Admiral "3 star".
Now, just 16 months have passed, and she´s getting promoted to 4 star?

I spent 10 years in the Navy, though that alone does not qualify me as an ´expert´ by any stretch. However, I can say with some experience that her record of promotions at the flag rank is, well, remarkably unusual.

Sorry for the 2nd post, but this information is necessary as it puts perspective here.

This from Adm. Howard´s official bio:
"She commanded Expeditionary Strike Group Two from April 2009 to July 2010. In 2009, she deployed to CENTCOM theater, where she commanded Task Force 151, Multi-national Counter-piracy effort, and Task Force 51, Expeditionary Forces."

So for clarification, she was not "commander of the ship the U.S.S Boxer" For the article to claim that she "is famous for helping to rescue Captain Phillips" is a stretch at best. Navy SEALS operate under a command staff - and those Navy SEALS in particular are under a command staff of their own. At best, she´d have been not much more than a bystander/observer once the SEALS were in place.

There is more on the Boxer and the Somali pirates and Phillips here. It begins:

The Boxer is designated as the flagship of Combined Task Force 151, the international anti-piracy task force pursuing pirates off the coast of Somalia.[1]

On 10 April 2009, the USS Boxer was en route to assist USS Bainbridge and the USS Halyburton in negotiating the release of Richard Phillips, captain of U.S. flagged container ship MV Maersk Alabama who was held hostage by Somali pirates 300 miles off the Horn of Africa.[2]

President Obama will host two events on the economy this week as Democrats seek to pivot the political discussion away from the healthcare law. Republican megadonors wouldn’t flood elections with private money if federal law forced individuals to immediately disclose their gifts, not only in public records but in advertisements too, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday. “The Chamber of Commerce told us that if their members had to disclose, they wouldn’t give to these secret PACs,” Pelosi said. The comments came during an event marking the 25th anniversary of the presidency of George H. W. Bush at the library and museum that bears the name of the Bush patriarch.

"My staff keeps telling me to take it easy, you know, well, this is one that gets me," Holder told Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., during a House Appropriations subcommittee hearing. "There was this notion that we´ve taken -- I think it was described as hundreds of personal trips. That was wrong. GAO counted flights, not round trips. And we looked at it

Reclusive movie star Doris Day greeted fans with a rare smile and a wave from her balcony on Thursday as she rang in her 90th birthday. The Oscar-nominee appeared in great spirits as she made the rather regal gesture from her home in Carmel-by-the-Sea, on California´s north coast - a quiet little enclave also home to Clint Eastwood - the first time she´s been seen in public since 2008.
