America to be hit by fast food
strike as Barack Obama warns
of gap between rich and poor

America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a

Let us not forget that U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), son of a divorced working mother, began his working life behind the counter of a Chick-fil-a.

A job such as that should be held for a brief period when you are young. Then you take your education and experience and go elsewhere.

Those who stay and complain can suck it.

In response the fast food restaurants will simply automate their operations to the extent possible and a lot of people will lose their jobs.

I am confused. If the fast food restaurants are full of illegal immigrants "doing jobs Americans won´t do", who´s going to do the jobs that illegal immigrants won´t do?

I bet Americans will do them after all.

Here in my part of rural Alabama a lot of the fast food workers are working to help pay their way through Jacksonville State so they can get an education and get better and better jobs as they go on in life. Unlike a lot of liberal students, they will come out of college with a lot less debt.

Agree with all that´s been said, includiong f you pay fast food workers $15.00/hour you (and they) will end up paying $15.00 for an inedible fast food hamburger; those who can afford to pay lower wages but not higher will stop hiring; they´ll invest in automation at a certain break even point; and again, as pointed out, poverty and/or low wages are a way station for most on the road to prosperity, unless, of course, Obama´s in charge, then all bet´s are off.

Since the workers are not unionized, they can be fired for cause. Say, for missing work. They will also not be paid for any time missed. They will suffer so the elite Democrats can retain their power.

I, personally, could use a day or two without fast food. Maybe I´ll find another restaurant to visit close by and totally swear off fast food. A few more like me and all of a sudden, no fast food customers. Poor idiot fast food workers will soon be poor idiot welfare recipients.

Bring it!

Making a better wage is probably most everyone´s wish. But what is changing today is low-skill employees run to the government and try to force their employer to pay them more, instead of improving their own skills or finding a more lucrative career.

The US fast food industry is a blessing. I do not say it is the healthiest food possible and a great diet. I do not say it pleases PETA.

But ask the poor if they would benefit when it costs more. The middle class and rich won´t care.

No one is forced to buy it. No one is forced to work there.

Believe it or not, I don´t visit your fast-food joint to hear the sweaty teens shuck and jive their silliness while they ignore customers. I limit my visits to the times when I figure the Acned Minions are in school or still abed. Older workers rise early and do a great job of making and serving breakfast and coffee. And they do it with a smile, not with an attitude.

The hiring sign in the window of our popular In-N-Out burger drive-in shows $10.50/hr.

They are determined not to be unionized.

Wonderful company.

From their website:

We start all our new Associates at a minimum of $10.50 an hour for one simple reason...you are important to us! And our commitment to a higher starting wage is just one of the ways in which we show it. Another way is through offering excellent part-time and full-time benefits like flexible schedules to accommodate school and other activities, paid vacations, free meals, comprehensive training, and a 401k plan.

many of these strikers are going to be surprised when they have no job....many of them will be replaced by robots, much like the UAW members who use to put on hub caps.

Then again with their skills I am sure they will have lots of other opportunities.. It will be a matter of picking and choosing.

Oh and yes some of them might actually make 15/hour all two of them at each location.

Personally, I hate fast food and do not eat at these places BUT they hire more people then just the workers behind the counter. They provide money in the form of leases and they construct new places places. The economic recovery continues.

At 15$ an hour, the fast food chains will introduce automation. Adelivery person will show up, load the machines with meat, produce, etc. You, the consumer will from a touch screen select what you want and then the machines will cook the food, assemble the burgers, wrap it up and stick it in a bag where a conveyor belt will deliver it to the counter.

Cars are assembled with machines. Putting together a hamburger would be childs play for the robotics companies.

Look... ATMs eliminated many tellers. We have new ATMs that will accept deposits in any denomination including coins. This same ATM will allow you to deposit a check and withdraw cash in all denominations including coins. Go check out Bank Of America.

Robots, computers and machines will be far more economically feasable when wages get too high.

Every time I hear the lie-berals crying, I am reminded of the reality of this situation.

For both fast food restaurants and places like Wal-Mart, the people working there (for the most part) are doing the best thing they are qualified to do. If they had more skills and education, they could find better jobs. But they don´t, so fast food and Wal-Mart jobs are the best they can hope to find. And in the economic reality of supply and demand, those types of jobs just don´t justify $15 an hour salaries.

If the lie-berals really cared about working people, they would use their powerful teachers unions to emphasize to kids to work hard, make good grades, and succeed in life. But they know those kids would then grow up to be conservatives and vote Republican -- and not end up on the government welfare plantation. The lie-berals can´t have that now, can they...

There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

A married freshman Republican congressman who campaigned on his Christian, conservative values apologized Monday after surveillance video surfaced purportedly showing him in a lengthy liplock with a staffer. In the Dec. 23 footage, obtained by a local newspaper, Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La. - who ahead of his election last fall ran multiple campaign ads trumpeting his faith and family - is seen kissing and embracing a woman for about 20 seconds at his Monroe, La., district office. The Ouachita Citizen reports the woman is the congressman´s 33-year-old part-time scheduler, who is also married.

That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn´t find a job. (snip) Shierholz estimates that there are currently more than 5 million missing workers who are not included in the unemployment rate because they are neither working nor looking for work, but who might be if the job market

The Democratic National Committee is furious by a conservative website’s ad campaign that depicts Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi clad in a bikini in a provocative pose with her tongue sticking out. The image of Pelosi, beneath one of California Gov. Jerry Brown’s face photo-shopped onto a flexing body builder, includes the sub-head: “Because you can’t make this s— up.” “To say the least,

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee says investigators have uncovered evidence that a former Internal Revenue Service official may have committed crimes as part of the agency´s tea party controversy. Rep. Dave Camp set a committee vote for Wednesday on whether to refer Lois Lerner, who used to head the agency´s tax-exempt division, to the Justice Department "for possible criminal prosecution." Camp, R-Mich., did not specify which laws Lerner may have broken. Lerner´s lawyer, William W. Taylor III, has said she broke no laws. On Monday, Taylor emailed this response to Camp´s announcement: "One word: Ridiculous." Camp´s committee has been investigating

Add Bryan Cranston, the star of TV´s recent hit "Breaking Bad" and a new Broadway play about former President Lyndon B. Johnson, to Team Obamacare. In an interview with Yahoo News “global anchor” Katie Couric, the actor called Obamacare the highlight of President Obama´s legacy. “Now’s the time to stake a claim to leave your legacy,” he encouraged Obama. “I personally believe that his health care program is fantastic. Yes, there are problems. Anything worth while is going to go through a growing pains period. But this is his legacy and I think it’s a great one because I don’t
