Inside the Race to Rescue a
Health Care Site, and Obama

New York Times, by SHERYL GAY STOLBERG *

WASHINGTON — As a small coterie of grim-faced advisers shuffled into the Oval Office on the evening of Oct. 15, President Obama’s chief domestic accomplishment was falling apart 24 miles away, at a bustling high-tech data center in suburban Virginia. HealthCare.gov, the $630 million online insurance marketplace, was a disaster after it went live on Oct. 1, with a roster of engineering repairs that would eventually swell to more than 600 items. The private contractors who built it were pointing fingers at one another. And inside the White House, after initially saying too much traffic was to blame, Mr. Obama’s

Pack a lunch...this novel is 7 pages long. I guess the words "briefly" and "condense" aren´t in the NY Times SOP.

It took the 7 pages to tell us they are still working on the problem. The website is the least of their problems. The plan stinks. It´s too expensive, it´s excluding the best hospitals and driving doctors out of medicine.

Long-winded way to tell us the website´s still not working, the back-end function that talks to insurers has been put on the back burner, and those nasty Republicans are trying to capitalize on it.

What problem was not mentioned ONE TIME in this very long article? Security. The word is nowhere to be found...and the gaping threat of information theft is chillingly absent. The only way I would consider opening this website on a browser would be if I was on someone else´s computer (preferably a liberal´s), entering false information (or their´s).

This this thing is still riddled with flaws and incoherent instructions.

For example, go to the signup screen to enter your user name. The instructions give you the user name length and other parameters, but then asks that you use an Upper case "or" lower case letter.

Password instructions ask that you use an upper case "and" lower case letter.

You think it´s bad now. Wait until its up and running. Then reality really sets in. People will lose doctors/hospitals they prefer, they will be denied care, and in addition, this marvelous experience comes with a high price tag! The technical glitches will look minor compared to what is coming down the pike. Try explaining to a bored and uncaring bureaucrat that your aged mother or father needs a hip replacement when they don´t meet the government´s criteria. It is going to get very ugly.

According to this story Obama has spent $630 million on the website. We have 300 million citizens...that works out to $2 million for every man, woman and child in this country. No wonder we have a $17 trillion debt.

Even if they waste 700 pages of ink the NYT will never admit to you that the 0bamacare site´s real problem is not that it is defective but highly deceptive. The software problems are being freely admitted because they deflect and delay attention from the underlying fraud carefully prepared over several years to expand socialist power.

FTA "Out of that tense Oval Office meeting grew a frantic effort aimed at rescuing not only the insurance portal and Mr. Obama’s credibility, but also the Democratic philosophy that an activist government can solve big, complex social problems. Today, that rescue effort is far from complete."

This is real problem with obamacare. A big activist government can´t solve any big, complex social problems it only makes them worse. First healthcare is not a social problem. Secondly when the so called solution (ie obamacare) doesn´t work the Democrats with GOP support create more programs to fix the unintended consequences of the initial "big" fix. This cycle of program after fixing program has got to stop. Who wants their healthcare run basically by Democratic bureaucrats like those that run the Post Office, IRS, EPA or the TSA. Because that is what we will get if this obamacare isn´t repealed.

Obamacare is a black hole sucking nearby political bodies into its center of destruction. The careers of Obama, Sebelius, and other members of the administration closely associated with the project are doomed. Mary Landrieu and the other 14´s up for election next year are struggling, probably in vain, to escape. Even massive powers like the New York Times have begun making moves to distance themselves from its deadly pull.

I couldn´t help but notice that the ever-present Iranian, Valerie Jarrett, carried two different titles in the article:

1. They arrived in the Roosevelt Room on Oct. 23 to find Ms. Sebelius, Mr. McDonough and Valerie Jarrett, the White House liaison to business, among others.

2. On the night of Oct. 28, Ms. Jarrett, one of Mr. Obama’s closest confidantes and a guardian of his personal credibility, took to Twitter to defend him — and to shift the blame.

I think Ms. Jarrett has woven such a "tangled web" of deceit that even she can´t figure out how to get her little Barry out of it. Barry will forever be known as a liar and untrustworthy.

Democrats are hoping that like with most liberal socialist policy, people will eventually give up, accept the inevitable, and do as they are told. The difference this time is that instead of creating some new hidden taxes or soaking the rich they are getting personal. We are expected to pay exorbitant prices for a product we don´t want and then being told which doctors we can see and where we can see them. This website is the tip of the iceberg. Wait until another 80-100 million people get forced into this wealth redistribution scheme. That´s when the real fireworks will start.

Of course, we all know that Obamacare was never - ever - about health.... care or insurance. It IS about getting us all into their massive gub´mint database, foist the IPAB on us, and decree who is, and is not, worthy to remain on the planet.

Utopia begins only when the Erf is cleared of undesirables.

That the website has been a typical Administration effort has been real fun for those of us who detest the very thought of nationalized healthcare, not to mention a powerful central government.

However, the overwhelming problem with ObummerCare is that high cost for stuff you don´t need, plus separating you from your doctor.

Once people finally get into the website they see they can´t afford government insurance, so they opt for Medicade (so they´ll have Something), and once that happens too many times...whoops, another big crisis on Obama´s hands.

Perhaps he ought to resign now, while the getting is good.....

I keep thinking that there has to be a way to defeat MengleCare other than waiting for it to collapse on its own.

Are there any lawyers here?

Why can´t We, The People sue 0bama or the US Government, or the Supreme Court --or whomever? Fifty states. If citizens from the five largest cities in all fifty states brought class action lawsuits citing damages, would that bring things to a halt?

I understand that it would be a logistical nightmare for the lawyers and firms involved, and the individuals involved would make themselves a target for Holder, the IRS, the NSA and every other government jackboot that 0bama sicced on them.

So many people have been harmed already and millions more are going to be harmed in the future.

I think it would be a hoot to see the government hit with a few hundred lawsuits brought by a few million citizens, all filed on the same day.

A pipe dream I guess, but lawsuits is how the Communist Left stop everything they disagree with, from the timber industry to the building of a new WalMart. They trump up a bunch of bull, then get a judge to order a stay and everything stops for years until baboons in black robes sort it out.

Eric Holder doesn´t hesitate for one second to sue states for any trumped up thing he comes up with. Maybe it´s time for We, The People to turn the tables.

And nowhere in the 7 pages of this article was it mentioned:

That CGI Federal, the principle contractor of Healthcare.gov, is a wholly owned subsidiary of CGI Group, a Canadian firm that has a splotchy reputation for its healthcare site work in Canada.

That CGI Federal received a no-bid contract.

That Michelle Obama was a classmate of a senior vice-president of CGI.

That most new enrollees are through Medicaid.

And on and on and on...

"For 90 excruciating minutes, a furious and frustrated president peppered his team with questions"

This is the basis of the problem. As the man in charge, Obama should have had his finger on the pulse of this disaster and should have been confident that it was going to work - or not make it public until it did. He is #1 in the fault line.

The design and rollout of the website broke every IT rule there is, which clearly demonstrates the gross incompetence and amateur level of management:

1) Create a good design on a workable solution before you start writing code. 2) Hire a systems integrator who has done it before on this scale. 3) Test each piece individually and then as part of a system. 4) DO NOT make major design changes in the middle of the project. 5) Conduct periodic management reviews of progress at all levels. 6) Do not roll out the final product until everybody is satisfied with performance and results.

The biggest concern is still centered around Obama´s legacy, credibility, image, and the chances of democrats in upcoming elections. That boat left the dock months ago.

In the sixties, we put a man on the moon. Since then, we have developed DaVinci robotic surgery, the iPhone, iPad, Kindle and convection stovetops. We have Amazon, Netflix, Barnes & Noble, Home Shopping Network website, Buy.com and myriad other high-traffic sites that are secure, fast and intuitive.

And the United States government can´t put together this dismal sink hole into which will go everyone´s most intimate private details which will then be used by bureaucrats to determine if you deserve medication or surgery.

No problem.

It would have been nice to see the $$$$ of this fix ... so far ... and estimated total.

HealthCare.gov — a site Mr. Obama once promised would be as easy to shop on as Amazon.com — went dark for 10 to 12 hours, unheard of in the online business world.

Why then didn´t they just ask Amazon to do it for them? Amazon would have had it up and running full speed day 1. I´ll answer my own question: because then they would lose a large portion of their control over the customers (i.e. everybody) plus they´d have to task Amazon to build their database which would mean skipping the political aspects of it (lest they be made public). Not to mention, then it might actually work successfully and that´s not really part of the plan.

This website could have easily been written for $30 million and in 1 year. Yet it is still incomplete after 3 years and $600+ million. Just amazing incompetence and corruption. That´s what happens where your incompetent and you hire your cronies through a no bid contract.

However, the problems with the website are just superficial compared with the guts of ObamaCare. It was sold to the people with lies - that you could keep your doctors and insurance. All the while the progressive fascists knew that the "success" of ObamaCare depended on breaking those sworn promises and betraying the trust of Americans.

Then there are the fundamentals of ObamaCare insurance. It is inferior to the insurance that the vast majority of people had before ObamaCare in just about every significant respect. The bronze plan is almost worthless because it only covers 40% of hospital care. While all of the plans are so expensive that they are unaffordable to most.

We should refuse to submit to ObamaCare like we refused to submit to King George. The penalties for violating the ObamaCare requirement that everyone have insurance are easily avoided. The main penalty for participation in our second revolution against government tyranny is not having insurance if medical disaster strikes. However, this is minor when compared to that of the sacrifices our founders made for our freedom.

The biggest problem with ObamaCare, one that is non repairable, is Obama himself.

The cumbersome law is like a planetary gear system, and the cog in the center (Obama) is missing several teeth.

pResident Obama, being the psychopath that he is, tried to build his own Spruce Goose even though he had never built and flown a two stick kite. His arrogance borders on schizophrenia.

All the unfortunate people caught in this web will still be struggling with this "mission impossible" when Obama leaves office -- when ever that is. In the mean time millions of citizens will be harmed. The emperor not only wears no cloths, he has no functioning brain cells either. Way to go -- LoFo´s!

Congress was stuck at deciding whether it would be single payer and whether it would cover illegal immigrants and abortion. Then Scott Brown got elected and they wrapped the entire mess up in a monster law and left it to HHS to sort out. The contents of the HHS regs have been secret and often delayed. They hadn´t even approved insurers until a month before roll out. Even now they are delaying the bulk of the law until after the 2014 election. It´s not intended to work, just appear to until they have millions trapped and dependent.

Re #3 - at least two years ago I was at a meeting of elderly people regarding the ACA. The doctor giving the presentation said it was never intended to work as all the systems would be unable to ´talk´ to each other - i.e. doctor offices, pharmacies, insurance offices - would not be able to connect and share information. And this was before they started ´jimmying´ the rules.

The teen heartthrob’s Gulfstream — with his father, Jeremy, and about 10 other party pals aboard — arrived at 2:53 p.m. from Toronto when federal Customs officials detected a strong odor of pot, sources said. “He came in, the

Responding to an allegation lodged against him by a disgruntled official at the center of the George Washington Bridge scandal, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie reiterated on Friday that he had no direct knowledge about the infamous lane closings last year. An attorney for David Wildstein — the former Port Authority official who oversaw the closings and lost his job as a result — said in a letter released Friday that “evidence exists” that ties Christie to the closings. “Mr. Wildstein’s lawyer confirms what the Governor has said all along – he had absolutely no prior knowledge of the lane closures before

The former Port Authority official who personally oversaw the lane closings at the George Washington Bridge, central to the scandal now swirling around Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, said on Friday that “evidence exists” the governor knew about the lane closings when they were happening. In a letter released by his lawyer, the former official, David Wildstein, a high school friend of Mr. Christie’s who was appointed with the governor’s blessing at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls the bridge, described the order to close the lanes as “the Christie administration’s order” and said “evidence

It has been the worst kept secret of the last decade: a truth that dared speak its name only when muttered quietly, a ruse that has been justified and rejustified on grounds that would never traditionally pass muster; and a target for Americans across the political board — for the recalcitrant, for the complaisant, and for those somewhere in between. It, of course, is the TSA — that vain, extravagant, and unhappily anxious piece of post-9/11 performance art that has been extended far beyond Broadway and out onto a permanent tour of the provinces, in whose airports a cast of

A year after saying it didn’t matter what sparked the vicious attack on the US diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Hillary Rodham Clinton is calling the incident the “biggest regret” of her stint as secretary of state.“My biggest, you know, regret is what happened in Benghazi,” Clinton told an auto dealers conference in New Orleans on Monday. Clinton didn’t acknowledge any particular blunder in the days or weeks leading up to the 2012 siege that resulted in the deaths of four Americans. Critics blame unmet security requests by the tragic US Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, who was killed in the attack. Clinton

WASHINGTON — President Obama plans to sign an executive order requiring that janitors, construction workers and others working for federal contractors be paid at least $10.10 an hour, using his own power to enact a more limited version of a policy that he has yet to push through Congress. The order, which Mr. Obama will highlight in his annual State of the Union address on Tuesday night, is meant to underscore an increasing willingness by the president to bypass Congress if lawmakers continue to resist his agenda, aides said. After a year in which most of his legislative priorities went nowhere,

One week ago today, we covered in detail serious allegations from the Democratic Mayor of Hoboken, New Jersey against Chris Christie´s administration. Dawn Zimmer claimed that two high-ranking Christie officials -- including the Lieutenant Governor -- told her that aid for her city´s recovery from the storm was contingent on her approval of a building development deal favored by the governor. I discussed several curious elements of this accusation at the time, noting the Mayor´s unqualified praise of Christie several months after this alleged shakedown attempt took place, and citing a local reporter to whom Zimmer had floated a different

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

WASHINGTON--Rushing to an afternoon vote last month, Sen. Ted Cruz hopped the underground tram to the U.S. Capitol from his office across the street. The Texan planted his black ostrich cowboy boots in the middle of the small subway car without getting so much as a nod from the other senators--Republican or Democrat--amiably chatting or huddled in their seats. Mr. Cruz finds himself standing alone a lot these days. His response to the cold shoulders: "The establishment despised Ronald Reagan" before he became president, "but the people loved him." For the 43-year-old Republican, the Reagan name illuminates his political life´s

If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like

President Obama asserts that 8 million people have signed up for Obamacare, as though that were something to be proud of. In fact, Obamacare has always been a fiasco from a fiscal perspective–a black hole of subsidies and expanded Medicaid, with largely fictitious mechanisms in place to pay for it. As the number of subsidized participants grows, the disaster gets worse. Charles Blahous explains: Our national discussion…is missing the truly significant story here; what is unfolding before our eyes is a colossal fiscal disaster, poised to haunt legislators and taxpayers for decades to come. It is quite possible that the ACA is

“On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist
