White House confident it’s met
deadline to fix Healthcare.gov for most

WASHINGTON — After two months of relentless criticism about the troubled rollout of the new federal health care law, Saturday marks the day when President Barack Obama pledged that the flawed website, HealthCare.gov, would be fixed. White House officials say they expect that vow to be fulfilled, at least for the vast majority of Americans who need to access the website to sign up for health insurance. But anything less than success Saturday probably will be a crippling blow in a second term where Obama faces many tough political challenges, from budget battles to negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. The White House "optimism" reminds me of Sen. Conrad Aitke´s advice on getting out of Viet Nam: "We simply say, "We won. The war is over." And we bring our troops home." Jay Carney and Obama will simply say, the website is fixed whether it is or not. They´re both pathological liars. I used to think Carney lied because it was his job. Now, I think he was hired because he IS a liar, just like his boss. Birds of a feather, doncha know?

It is not the website. It is the philosophy behind it. If it runs perfectly, it will still provide inadequate care at an exorbitant price. Obama can´t fix that. If there were no computers and this had to be done manually, it might take longer but the outcome would still be the same. Obamacare is a vehicle of wealth redistribution computerized or not.

Prices, deductibles still going up; unnecessary services still being added; 80 to 100 million still going to lose company coverage in the next 15 months (up from 12 after Obama administration moved the start date). It´s just lies, obfuscation and more lies. Number 1 really nails it.

Those who saw this epic failure approaching have every right to say we told you so.

And as an aside, the US has the most useless media in the developed world. No news is better than only a part of it. Thank goodness for this outlet.

Has anyone seen the new numbers on what these fixes have cost - not to mention the 24 hour a day ´war room´? Has to be well over a billion so far to implement a law Obama says ´people want´ when, in fact, we don´t. Inviting in a few ´selected journalists´ (read Obama syncophants) to report flowery upbeat stories about the zillions of people waiting breathlessly to sign up for this dog isn´t going to change a thing.

The regime is smack in the middle of switching hosting services from Verizon to HP. That alone will be good for a few months of cartoon-like performance as they straighten out the IP address mess. The smell of desperation hangs heavily over Washington.

Time will tell if I am right in assuming the website is a red herring. This as virtually no one is reporting on Obama´s simultaneous ground game of canvasing poor neighborhoods to sign people up to Medicaid.

A main objective of this early phase could be to enroll as many people into Medicaid as possible. Then in 2014, once they begin getting treatment, it will become an irreversible expanded entitlement.

At the same time massive plan cancellations due to required restructuring will destroy what remained of the previous insurance structure as Actuaries will have already created new formulaic models.

Once this has been done, who cares if the Republicans try and fix it. There will be nothing to go back to.

The security risk/identity theft/identity mistakes issue is enough by itself to stop me from registering. In a decentralized health care system the chances of mistakes of identity are much less. I live in Utah. If my name was Howard Densmore, the chances are that there is only one or two in the state with that name. When it is centralized the chances of mistaken identify increase more than 50 fold. And if there is identity theft or identity mistakes I can go back to my insurer and if not satisfied I can lodge a complaint with the state insurance commission. You will never get to the bottom of mistakes or fraud by calling the IRS. Sick system from start to finish.

What does "confidence" have to do with a website. Today is Saturday and it either works or it doesn´t. Hope it does, so that people without insurance can see what is in store for them. Excellent plan, but few doctors, few specialists, few providers, few hospitals, enormous deductibles, no stable subsidy because it depends on a ( possibly variable ) income, possibility of alteration in number of people in the family ( ex; child turns 27 or is under 26 and decides to return home), possible large premium increase, possible only plan is Medicaid, and just a few other major out-of-control variables. Exactly how does a subsidy help when it is provided only once per year at tax time and the balance of the year you have to ante up the premium. if you are in an income bracket that provides a subsidy benefit, supposedly you cannot afford the whole premium. Slight contradiction. Just like the whole law is.

My error in Reply 23. A person eligible for a subsidy does not have to pay it up-front under normal circumstances. It is paid to the insurance company. There are two types of subsidies, advanceable and refundable. You must be very careful what income you enter, as a $1 difference in income can cost you a large decrease in the subsidy amount. The Healthcare. Gov site links to the Kaiser site
for reference.

With Chris Christie in deep trouble, Republican poobahs are reportedly looking to Jeb Bush to save their party in 2016. The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012.
