Bolz-Weber’s liberal, foulmouthed

fed-up believers

AUSTIN— Nadia Bolz-Weber bounds into the University United Methodist Church sanctuary like a superhero from Planet Alternative Christian. Her 6-foot-1 frame is plastered with tattoos, her arms are sculpted by competitive weightlifting and, to show it all off, this pastor is wearing a tight tank top and jeans. Looking out at the hundreds of people crowded into the pews to hear her present the gospel of Jesus Christ, she sees: Dockers and blazers. Sensible shoes. Grandmothers and soccer moms. Nary a facial piercing. To Bolz-Weber’s bafflement, this is now her congregation: mainstream America. These are the people who put her

As Flip Wilson called it, "The Church of What´s Happ´nin´ Now!"

I refuse to label somebody as a Christian or NOT a Christian; I´ll leave that up to Jesus. But I get the impression Sister Bolz-Weber is more interested in HER theology, than that of the Savior.

One could not create a character more at odds with Christ, or with true Christians trying to mirror Christ in their lives.

This is not Christianity in any form; it is the social liberal secular philosophy masquerading as Christianity.

Shame on the WaPo for giving this heretic a boost.

FTA: “You show us all your dirty laundry! It’s all out there!” the Rev. John Elford of the University United Methodist Church booms, as if he is introducing a rock star, leading the cheering crowd into an impassioned round of hymn-singing.

Don´t we have a thread in Must Reads about White rash becoming "normal."

Does that hype by the pastor introducing Nadia Bolz-Weber remind you of a promo for say . . . a Honey Boo Boo episode?

The more the outrageous is hyped, the more viewers they can pull in.

Liberal Christianity? I call it White Trash Christianity.

FTA....that merges the passion and life-changing fervor of evangelicalism with the commitment to inclusiveness and social justice of mainline Protestantism. She’s a tatted-up, foul-mouthed champion to people sick of being belittled as not Christian enough for the right or too Jesus-y for the left.´
Does that sound like what we are warned about in Rev 3:15-16? 15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

“And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Jehovah. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering: but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell” (Gen. 4:3-5).

“By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness in respect of his gifts: and through it he being dead yet speaketh” (Hebrews 11:4).

Abel´s worship pleased God because of his faith and obedience of God´s instructions.

Cain´s worship displeased God because his offering was presumptuously according to Cain´s will and not in submission and obedience to God´s will.

There is an important lesson in that for all of us who worship God today.

I often find that people preaching a ´tolerant and inclusive´ gospel like this have great disdain for anyone who doesn´t agree with everything they are doing. So called Progressive Christians seem to be most worried about being confused with or lumped together with any traditional-minded or conservative believers more than anything else.

Half the Methodist church are no longer followers of Christ. They have gone to the dark side and are trying to bring everyone down there with them. This has caused many local Methodist churches to split with the actual Methodists being forced to start from scratch with only a bible. Typical liberals always have to ruin everything they touch, the Methodist church used to be a great church, no longer.

The one thing most Protestant denominations have forgotten is the authority of the Bible: Sola Scriptura. The fact that she is a minister says it all because the Bible says only men can be pastors.

When the suburbanites who looked like normal people began to come to her ELCA church, I thought of Jonah who was "off-put" by the fact that the Ninevites were responding to his message. I think that we must look to her book and beyond one religion writer´s story to learn more. Some things do resonate though: God´s Grace; God´s desire for an intimacy with each of His children that is life-changing; a Gospel that is more than "recylcing/save the planet" and simple rules; ministering to the outcast; churches are more than non-profit organizations. (We were tasked to go into all of the world and make disciples.) As Ruperus Meldineus was quoted by John Wesley, "In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, liberty. In all things, charity."

There is no such thing as a foulmouthed articulation of Christianity—only foulmouthed people masquerading as Christians for their own pernicious ends.

Nadia Bolz-Weber is a living example of the old saying: "It´s better to be wanted for murder than not to be wanted at all." How sad it must be knowing one´s appeal is to others is based on publicly offending our Lord Jesus Christ.

This woman claims she´s a Lutheran which means she most likely is part of ELCA—Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—which long ago turned away from the confessional Lutheran church craft a set of PC beliefs that are anything but Christian—beliefs they share with other far out lefties in various faiths. It´s not surprising that ELCA has become the largest body of so-called "Lutherans" in America.

Still not understanding all the hate and sanctimony of self-proclaimed "Christians" who take such pride in their superiority and their anger and contempt for those who don´t follow the same narrow-minded path they themselves do. This pastor´s style doesn´t speak to me, but if her message gets through to others who don´t love the same formal liturgy I do, or the pulpit-pounding harangues of the fundies, or the sound-system rock-band variety show of the mega churches, more power to her! Get over yourselves, haters. that isn´t the message Christ preached, now is it? Or is the bit about "A new commandment I give you, that you shall love one another," just one of those foul Episcopalian heresies?

She looks just as I imagined she would. Very butch. But let´s not forget that Methodist ministers are appointed, not called. She merely reflects the direction the Methodist hierarchy is headed. She fits right into the Austin scene. I hope she remembers that it´s not all about her. A minister that becomes the focus of a congregation rather guiding them to a focus on Christ has failed their calling.

It was Jesus himself who said the path to destruction is wide and broad. The path to salvation is narrow. If you want to include things which are not justified by scripture fine but do not tell me that it is Christianity.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the ultimate and not surprising outcome of the misguided efforts of one Martin Luther. There is one univeral Truth, and one true Church Militant. Everything since has been an abject watered down failure. The Church has had it´s failures for sure, but it is self correcting over the ages.

These Protestant freak shows are a death spiral for their adherents.

Yes, #27, because no Roman Catholic priest (except Luther) has ever gone astray. Before reading the article, I was prepared to abhor everything about her. After reading, I actually agree with her on a number of points. My overall impression, though, is that what she really needs is a pastor (that´s Greek for shepherd).

#27 – “… misguided efforts of one Martin Luther.” That is not only judgmental, but dishonest and absolutely offensive. “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” ~Matthew 7:1-2

As for Nadia Bolz-Weber, she was likely ordained by the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and represents the liberal dogma of the ELCA which unjustly tarnishes conservative Lutherans belonging to the LCMS (Lutheran Church Missouri Synod) and WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod).

Bolz-Weber wants it both ways. She wants to sell her book, and she certainly wants to read from it as she´s visiting other churches as a speaker (and I´m sure she welcomes those large crowds), yet in her own church, which averages 180 congregates a Sunday, she is scared of growth and certainly doesn´t want those straight-laced (looking) suburbanites infiltrating her rebel-church. She wants all the fame of a megachurch preacher without all the responsibility of leading a big church. Nice gig if you can get it.

She appears to be a very conflicted soul: she´ll take God´s grace, but she´s not quite sure about the repentance peace that proceeds the Grace.

Finally #23 -- may I suggest a thorough reading of First Corinthians. It will give you an excellent perspective on Paul´s admonition to the church. And, I´d also recommend Matthew 21...Jesus does not approve of those who use God´s house and twist God´s word for their own profit.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced today that dozens of lawyers will be reassigned to the Justice Department’s pardon office in anticipation of a surge of applications from drug offenders for reductions in their sentences — applications the Obama administration has signaled it would look upon favorably. This exercise is another transparent usurpation of legislative power by the president. The pardon power is just the camouflage for it. The pardon power exists so that the president can act in individual cases to correct excesses and injustices. It is not supposed to be a vehicle by which presidents rewrite congressional statutes that

In the budget proposal he presented to Congress last month, President Barack Obama called for what would be the highest level of sustained taxation ever imposed on the American people, according to the analysis published last week by the Congressional Budget Office. Under Obama’s proposal, taxes would rise from 17.6 percent of Gross Domestic Product in 2014 to 19.2 percent in 2024. During the ten years from 2015 to 2024, federal taxation would average 18.7 percent GDP. America has never been subjected to a ten-year stretch of taxation at that level.

A coalition of investigative journalists to include the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) recently announced a public project to map border infrastructure used to hopefully minimize unlawful crossing and other illegal activities. While the effort is understandably time-consuming and leads to frustration when clearly seeing much of the border unfenced--security experts argue the key is proper placement, rather than blanket coverage with infrastructure. The Center for Investigative Reporting’s map of a U.S./Mexico border fence, or lack thereof, offers a seeming disparity of border assets allocated—leaving viewers to assume that Texas is left largely un-guarded compared to the relative coverage enjoyed

Global sea levels have risen by 8 inches (20cm) since 1880 and scientists predict they could rise up to 3ft (98cm) by 2100. But despite the UN’s recent threats of war, famine and extreme weather, such a dramatically different world caused by sea level rise can be hard to imagine. To help picture the future, Martin Vargic, an amateur graphic designer from Slovakia, has created a map depicting the planet with sea levels around 260ft (79m) higher than they are today. He imagines what Earth would look like if the ice sheets surrounding the North and South poles melted, releasing

Joan Eisenstodt didn´t have a stopwatch when she went to see an ear, nose and throat specialist recently, but she is certain the physician was not in the exam room with her for more than three or four minutes. "He looked up my nose, said it was inflamed, told me to see the nurse for a prescription and was gone," said the 66-year-old Washington, D.C., consultant, who was suffering from an acute sinus infection. When she started protesting the doctor´s choice of medication, "He just cut me off totally," she said. "I´ve never been in and out from a visit faster." These days,

At a petite 5’3’’, Sage Santangelo may not look like a combat fighter at first glance. But the female second lieutenant has never let that hold her back from pursuing her dream of becoming an infantry officer in the Marine Corps. Growing up, Santangelo found she was always able to keep up with the guys and enjoyed playing hockey on all boys’ teams. But when she joined the Marines, Santangelo found the playing field changed; she was segregated into female-only training units and as a woman, was relegated to less strenuous physical training than her male counterparts. And that’s why,

Perhaps the most remarkable feature of American democracy is the magnificent estate of public land that it reserved from the very beginning for the use of all citizens, rich or poor. There is nothing like it in the democracies of Europe, which came into being with nations already carved up into private fiefdoms. The Great Idea that hundreds of millions of acres of forests, deserts, rivers and prairies should be owned by, and managed for, the public interest has had a profound and lasting influence on American culture. But not everyone has accepted it. Cliven Bundy’s armed standoff with the National Park

If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like

Harry Reid isn’t backing down from his claim that rancher Cliven Bundy’s supporters are “domestic terrorists.” It’s astonishing rhetoric given the White House’s characterization of the mass shooting by a genuine terrorist, Major Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 Americans at the Fort Hood Army base after yelling “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great.) Rather than labeling Hasan’s actions “domestic terrorism,” the Obama administration is prosecuting him for having committed “workplace violence.” Democratic rhetoric is become ever more desperate and overheated as we approach the November midterm elections. Last week, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said that GOP positions on immigration were motivated by

"No, absolutely not," the November midterm election is not a referendum on President Obama and his policies, Democrat Party Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) told NBC´s "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "[T]hese elections, particularly the Senate elections, are referendums on the candidates running," she said. Asked about vulnerable Democrats who have criticized President Obama´s flawed healthcare law, Wasserman Schultz said they are running their own race. "They have to talk about and focus on the issues that are important to their constituents. And what´s also true is, if you look at the success rate and the track record of

In an op-ed published in the Boston Globe on Easter Sunday and posted on the State Department website, Secretary of State John Kerry recalled his days as an altar boy and pointed out that he is “the first Catholic Secretary of State in 33 years.” Alexander Haig, who served as secretary of state to President Ronald Reagan from January 1981 to July 1982, was also a Catholic. Last month, I traveled to Rome with President Obama, where I was honored to meet His Holiness Pope Francis,” said Kerry. “As an altar boy six decades ago, I never imagined that I

In internal government documents with potential repercussions for the 2016 presidential election, top officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development repeatedly cited former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton for setting into motion a policy to waive restrictions on who could receive U.S. aid in Afghanistan, resulting in millions of dollars in U.S. funds going directly into the coffers of Afghan ministries known to be rife with corruption. References to Mrs. Clinton’s role in the policy first appeared in a November 2012 USAID action memo, which outlined how U.S. officials made a “strategic foreign-assistance

Suppose a scientific conference on cancer prevention never addressed smoking, on the grounds that in a free society you can´t change private behavior, and anyway, maybe the statistical relationships between smoking and cancer are really caused by some other third variable. Wouldn´t some suspect that the scientists who raised these claims were driven by something—ideology, tobacco money—other than science? Yet in the current discussions about increased inequality, few researchers, fewer reporters, and no one in the executive branch of government directly addresses what seems to be the strongest statistical correlate of inequality in the United States: the rise of single-parent
