“Riots always begin typically the same way”:
Food stamp shutdown looms Friday

Food stamp recipients face a massive benefit cut set to kick in when stimulus funds expire Friday. The nationwide cut “is equivalent to about 16 meals a month for a family of three,” according to a Center on Budget and Policy Priorities analysis using the USDA’s “Thrifty Food Plan.” CBPP called the roughly $5 billion annual cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program “unprecedented” in “depth and breadth.” “If you look across the world, riots always begin typically the same way: when people cannot afford to eat food,” Margarette Purvis, the president and CEO of the Food Bank..

Maybe people will stop selling their SNAP cards, and use them for buying food then...

When I got out of school and moved into my own apt. I lived on rice, beans and baloney sandwiches for about three years until I got a promotion at work.
I never went on food stamps or started a riot.
We have become a nation of lazy, helpless and violent slobs.
Thank you liberals.

I´m reminded of the food riot scene from Solyent Green, how soon until we are there?

And, kudos to #2, ramen, pork & beans, and PBJ´s were my food source after school as well.

This idiot woman president of the food bank, whatever that is, is, of course, trying to start a riot.

Put the thought out there and the layabouts will act on it. That´s probably in Rules For Radicals somewhere.

If there is a riot, she should be prosecuted for starting it.

They may have to skip their annual trip to Vegas or Honolulu. The surfer dude may have to give up lobster. Weekly trips to the casino will also be affected. Craig´s list might also be affected since many people apparently sell them there.

If these cards were used for the items they should be used for, there would not be a problem.

Final note, blame the wookie. She stole funds for the "Let´s Move" program. Maybe riots are her version of getting people to move more.

It is a FACT that some of these recipients receive benefits above their needs and "sell" the balance. I am unaware of the percentage, of course, but personally know this happens.
A cut is indeed sad for those truly needy but the program is out of balance and riddled with fraud.

A miniscule cutback in "food stamps" could easily be offset by eliminating the monthly cable bill, the monthly quota of lottery tickets, the premium cell phone package w/unlimited data plan, decrease the number of times eating out, reduce the junk food and steak from the grocery cart, eliminate a couple of Starbuck´s coffee drinks each week- the list is endless- jut choose one. Or you could riot like the low life you have become.

Those Homeland security an police armored vehicles weren´t meant for food or illegal immigrant rioters, they are meant to keep producers in line.

How are all those takers going to vote Democrat 15 times in every election without the energy to keep marking those ballots. I don´t know anyone who wants people to go hungry and of course that goes for having jobs too. The latter erases the former, except in liberal think.

The author uses riots in other parts of the world where benefits were cut for his premise…recent riots in Greece, Italy, and Spain, for example…won’t happen here…for your reference, 20million of the 48million food stamp recipients are white, 18million Hispanic and other, and 10million are black or mixed race. It’s surprising that Florida ranks third but ahead of New York in total beneficiaries...Who gets them by state in raw numbers and where in a state by map are HERE:

Yeah, right. I call BS. First off, I hear the SNAP sellers around here get about 50 cents on the dollar when they ´monetize´ their benefits. So the benefit reduction is less than advertised. Second, somehow the recipients seem to have multiple accounts. If their benefits are really being cut, I´m sure they´ll just do whatever they already do to procure yet another account.

People who fake need in pursuit of freebies ought to be penalized (or at least forced to do work assisting those who are truly needy, instead of siphoning aid from them).

The only feasible strategy for eliminating fraud and abuse of these programs involves intrusion into every freedom a recipient has. The human propensity to waste money on discretionary things like entertainment and gadgets (not to mention booze or drugs) guarantees that some applicants for aid will actually be capable of supporting themselves without it.

Poster #19, around here, any student who receives "free breakfast and lunch" also receives a backpack of ready-to-eat food for the weekend, to be brought back empty on Monday and filled again the next Friday.

I hate to spread conspiracies, but consider this, if SNAP recipients start "food riots" over a small discontinuation of a temporary raise in their benefits, the riots will give 0bama cover to declare Martial Law and use all those millions and millions of rounds of ammunition he´s been stockpiling at various and sundry Federal Bureaucracies that don´t "normally" use weapons.

For one person it´s $11 and a family of four, $36. When I raised this in a discussion about it being a problem because if they sell the EBT for drugs and have to cut back on drugs, they will do other things to replace the money, I was told some of them sell it to pay their electric bill. In other words, it´s ok.

Never mind the illegals with Anchor Babies selling their EBT cards while We feed the kids at school.

The State Department has no idea what happened to $6 billion used to pay its contractors. In a special “management alert” made public Thursday, the State Department’s Inspector General Steve Linick warned “significant financial risk and a lack of internal control at the department has led to billions of unaccounted dollars over the last six years. The alert was just the latest example of the federal government’s continued struggle with oversight over its outside contractors. Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron compared Republicans that oppose President Barack Obama to the Ku Klux Klan. Speaking to USA Today Tuesday on the 40th anniversary of his then record-breaking 715th home run, the 80-year-old Aaron said that Republicans are hindering Obama’s job performance. “Sure, this country has a black president, but when you look at a black president, President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all of the Republicans with the way he’s treated,” Aaron told USA Today Sports.

Attorney General Eric Holder strayed from prepared remarks to slam the way he was “treated” by a House committee the day before, calling it evidence of “ugly and divisive” civil rights challenges facing him and President Barack Obama. Speaking to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network at its annual convention in New York on Wednesday, Holder talked about the state of civil rights today and brought up a House committee hearing Tuesday that grew contentious, according to video from Mediaite and reports from outlets including Capital New York. “The last five years have been defined by significant strides and

How does the Republican Party establishment choose its presidential candidate? Typically, constitutionalists accuse their establishment rivals of being moderate, risk-averse, stubborn old fools who lack faith in conservative principles. This is a soothing interpretation, as it begins from the hypothesis that the contest between conservatives and the GOP elite is a family feud. But there is another hypothesis -- less soothing, but, at least from an outsider´s bird´s-eye view, more reconcilable with the facts. This hypothesis is that America has reached a stage of progressive soft despotism in which the only important family feud in national politics is between the fundamentally

A caveat right off the bat: RAND’s estimate only runs through March 28 whereas the actual deadline for signing up was March 31st. Given the crush of traffic on Healthcare.gov in late March, many more people could have signed up over those last three days than were captured by these numbers. On the other hand, the White House was claiming six million sign-ups as of March 27. There’s no way to reconcile that with RAND’s data. One of them is wrong. Maybe both, in fact. There’s a big spike in Medicaid, just as everyone expected. There’s a less big but

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Eric Holder ventured off script in a speech Wednesday to the National Action Network, the organization led by MSNBC host and recently-exposed FBI informant Al Sharpton. “I’m pleased to note that the last five years have been defined by significant strides and by lasting reforms,” said Holder at the conference of black activists, before improvising “even in the face, even in the face, of unprecedented, unwarranted, ugly, and divisive adversity.” “If you don’t believe that, if you look at the way, forget about me, forget about me, if you look at the way the attorney general of the United States was treated

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) could face up to five years in federal prison for obstructing a Congressional proceeding. On Wednesday, Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and five Subcommittee Chairmen on the committee sent a letter to Ranking Member Cummings demanding an explanation for his staff’s queries from the IRS, why the Minority hid these efforts from the Majority, and why the Ranking Member denied such actions by his staff at a February Subcommittee hearing: “Although you have previously denied that your staff made inquiries to the IRS about conservative organization True the Vote that may have led to additional

A founding father of the conservative movement who is now a star among Tea Party activists is urging the GOP to choose a governor to duel Washington “insider” Hillary Clinton for the White House, saying that 2016 isn´t the best time for Sen. Ted Cruz to run. Often called the “funding father” of conservatism for pioneering direct mail fundraising, Richard A. Viguerie believes that the Texas senator is a “game changer” for the movement but that the best way to beat Clinton is with a candidate from outside the beltway. “I don´t think it would be best for the conservative movement for

As a former President of The Most Powerful Country In The World, George W Bush has significantly greater access to world leaders than most budding artists. (Snip) Art critics have pointed out that a number of the 30 portraits in the exhibition appear to be based on images thrown up by a cursory search of the person´s name in Google Images. In some cases the portrait seems to have been based on the very first image result on the search engine. Rather remarkably, even the portrait of his own father, someone who he surely could have asked to sit for him, appears to be based on an Associated Press portrait which appears on the first page of

Although the news media and Hollywood relish telling stories about horrific crimes and serial killers, they are strangely silent about Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who killed living, viable babies by snipping their spinal cords with scissors, and who is “America’s most prolific serial killer,” said actor Kevin Sorbo and his wife Sam Jenkins in a video to promote funding for a movie about Gosnell. “Kermit Gosnell is America’s most prolific serial killer,” says Kevin Sorbo, who starred in the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. “For more than three decades he was an abortion doctor in Philadelphia, where he
