Healthcare.gov Has a
Big EDI Problem

American Thinker, by West Coast EDIGUY

Original Article

Jeffrey Zients, the advisor appointed by the Obama administration to lead repairs of the troubled Healthcare.gov website, faces a daunting task to have the EDI portion working "by the end of November," as promised last Friday. EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is a way of electronically moving data between two organizations in the form of small, tightly-organized packets. (snip)The most challenging aspect to fixing the Healthcare.gov EDI is that the EDI developers don´t have a stable platform on which to build their software. EDI software is often called a translator because it translates the internal data format

Something tells that a lot of Americans are going to learn more than they expected to over the next year about the difficulties and limitations of software development and testing. Even when it´s the best there is, problems abound.

If you need a comparison for LoFo´s you meet who watch movies, try HAL 9000 or SkyNet. They all know how those turned out...

This is only a component of the failure. Don´t forget that the system also has to query the IRS, the VA, Medicaid/CHIP, various state agencies, Treasury, and HHS. All those transactions have to contain perfect data because many of them are legacy systems with divergent data structures. One error - misspell a middle name, use an initial instead of the full name, etc. will blow it out of the water.

All this is caused by the subsidy, which is caused by the outlandish price increases for coverage items most don´t want.

The subsidy is a VOUCHER, and we should call it one. Liberals hate the term VOUCHER.

One of the latest badges of greenie virtue is the mini-car. Supposedly, if you drive one of these contraptions, you demonstrate your concern for Mother Gaia and help diminish the risk that catastrophic global warming will engulf low lying coastal areas and fry the rest of us in temperatures that will be a couple of degrees higher in the next hundred years. In this worldview, people who drive around in SUVs are carelessly risking the very future of humanity. If anyone thinks "Bridgegate" is an example of political bullying and abuse of power, then the sworn (under penalty of perjury) allegation of a corporate heavy hitter against Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner is off the charts. Bloomberg Businessweek reports: Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner told McGraw Hill Financial Inc. Chairman Harold W. McGraw III in 2011 that Standard & Poor´s downgrade of the U.S. debt would be met by a response, S&P said. S&P filed a declaration by McGraw yesterday in federal court in Santa Ana, California, as part of a request to force the U.S. to hand over

We conservatives, crouching in the trenches of the political wars, experience liberals as haters and culture warriors. When we think of liberals we think of the Kos Kidz over at DailyKos and the execrable hosts on MSNBC. We think of the liberal journalists that sneer "who me?" to the charge of journalistic bias. But I was reminded this last week that many liberals are naifs and innocents. They don´t see feminists as the professional class making a virtue out of poor women raising their children; they think of career women and two-income families as a simple natural progress from darkness to

Here it is, early 2014, and already pollsters are gearing up for the 2016 presidential election. Quinnipiac University of North Haven CT, recently released a poll that has former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Jersey governor Chris Christie at 41% and 42%. That is a massive downswing for Hillary, who in October 2013 held a 13% lead over Christie. To say that polling numbers could change further would be a gross understatement. As if excellence and the ability to earn are wicked traits. In the meantime, Obama and his ilk are living pretty well. They are not sleeping in boxes on cold urban streets. It is not exactly a surprise that the latest feminist political icon, Texas state Senator Wendy Davis, turns out to be a phony and an exploiter. Davis, you may recall, rocketed to progressive superstardom by conducting an ultimately futile filibuster on a bill tightening health regulations on abortions after 20 weeks of gestation when the life of the mother is not in peril. The fact that Davis is an attractive blond and speaks fairly well in public was enough to gladden the heart of the pro-abortion faction, eager to find a champion who can be packaged as an inspiring profile

A major peculiarity of Obama´s recent promises involving his upcoming "Year of Action" is that the chief enemy he´s sworn to overcome is none other than... Barack Obama. Consider "income inequality." As far as this can be said to actually exist, it´s a function of certain sectors of the financial industry reaping massive windfalls over the past few years while the rest of the country has stagnated under the burden of the recession. So who is responsible for this state of affairs? Consider the trillion and a half dollars handed over to the banks and other financial institutions shortly after Obama took

Did you hear about the students at a famous university who have gotten upset because a member of a small racial minority there was pictured in an ad directed at the student body? For some reason, the national media doesn't find this anti-diversity position of much interest. However, local media have the story. WTOP-TV Washington reports: A Giant grocery store ad welcoming back Howard University students from winter break has rankled the Howard community because the ad pictured a young, white female. The vast majority of students at Howard, a historically black university, are African-American.

The poor whites of Appalachia may have become unfashionable, but they have not gone anywhere. The current political left´s obsession with both income inequality and so called White Privilege overlooks a lot of history. How quickly does the left forget. Or perhaps it is more a matter of fashion. In 1964, when LBJ declared his War on Poverty, the area he mentioned by name was not the urban ghettos of Detroit, Watts or Harlem but rather the isolated rural counties of Eastern Kentucky. Four years later, in 1968, Bobby Kennedy decided to run for the presidency mere days after touring

Are you dazed and confused by Barack Obama, the nominal Democrat, whose conduct as president since 2009 has seen him sink from nearly 70 percent to 40 percent or less in the national polling, from which he has seemed to learn nothing, but still marches on? The two were charged in connection with their relationship with dietary supplement executive Jonnie R. The bare-bones Wendy Davis story — the one without embellishment — is sufficiently inspiring as a matrix for defying expectations. The daughter of a teenage mother and a teenage mother herself, Davis managed to beat the odds by getting a college education and Ivy League law degree, then launching a political career that’s brought her national adulation. But since Davis’ Democratic gubernatorial ambitions caught fire last year, “facts have been blurred” in the retelling of her life’s story, as reported Sunday by this newspaper’s senior political writer, Wayne Slater.
