U.S. and Israeli officials differed over Iran´s nuclear programme on Wednesday as Israel called for its effective dismantlement and the United States suggested safeguards could show that it is peaceful rather than military. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke as they began talks ostensibly about Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations but which appeared likely to be overshadowed by Iran. Suggesting Obamacare Delay
National Review Magazine, by Andrew Johnson    Original Article

Bob Beckel, a liberal co-host of Fox News’ The Five, said he received an angry phone call from the White House after suggesting on the air that the administration enact a six-month to one-year delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate due to the problems afflicting the online exchanges. “I got a call from somebody at the White House who absolutely bludgeoned me over it,” Beckel said Tuesday. According to Beckel, a former campaign manager for Walter Mondale, he told the unnamed White House staffer that the dysfunctional website is frustrating potential customers and dissuading them from returning to the website.

A group of Australian Muslims has been accused of a sectarian attack on an American group during this year’s Haj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, which ended on October 16. The Americans, who are Shiite Muslims from Detroit, claim they were assaulted and threatened by a group of Lebanese-Australian Sunni Muslim men in a campground in Mina, near Mecca, where pilgrims stay to fulfil their religious obligations. Tensions between Shiite and Sunni Muslims around the world have been rising as a result of the civil war in Syria, which pits the government, backed by Shiite Iran and the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah

Starbucks is suing a coffee vendor in Bangkok for using a logo curiously similar to the coffee giant’s. Starbung — owned by 43-year-old Damrong Maslae — employs a green-and-white insignia featuring stars and a moon with a smiling figure at the center. Starbucks filed a cease-and-desist letter on Oct 17th last year, requesting the vendor to stop usage of the logo. Maslae and his brother ignored the warning and proceeded to display their Starbung logo on shirts, stickers and wrappers

A judge has refused to dismiss a federal lawsuit accusing Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of discriminating against and mocking a disabled staffer — charges the Texas Democrat denies. The two-year old suit, first reported by The Washington Times in 2011, was filed by former legislative director Mona Floyd, who declined to comment Tuesday.(snip) “I don’t care anything about your disability,” the complaint quotes the congresswoman as saying. Mrs. Jackson Lee’s legal team sought to have the complaint dismissed, arguing in part that actions concerning her staff are protected under the Speech or Debate clause of the Constitution. PEORIA, Ill. - Caterpillar says its third-quarter earnings plunged 44 percent, and the construction equipment maker cut its 2013 forecast again, partly because of weaker mining equipment sales. The Peoria, Ill., company says it earned $946 million, or $1.45 per share, in the quarter that ended Sept. 30. That compares with $1.7 billion, or $2.54 per share, in last year´s quarter. Revenue tumbled 18 percent to $13.42 billion. Analysts forecast earnings of $1.68 per share on $14.29 billion in revenue. Washington -- Attorney General Eric Holder has been bruised and battered by Republicans who made him the first-ever sitting Cabinet member to be held in contempt of Congress. He´s been knocked around in behind-the-scenes White House battles with some of President Barack Obama´s top advisers. But more than 1,700 days after being the first black man sworn in as attorney general, Holder has defied expectations that he was on his way out. And he´s planning on staying for a while longer. Sources close to the attorney general say he plans to stay in office until well into 2014, at the President´s behest. He´s changed

WASHINGTON — After appearing on MSNBC this week where he compared the Tea Party movement to the Ku Klux Klan, Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson (D-Florida) stirred controversy when his KKK-themed fundraising email surfaced featuring a burning cross, men in white sheets, and the words Tea Party spelled out in flaming letters. If anyone would know what the Ku Klux Klan stands for, it would be Grayson and his Democrat Party. After all, it was a group of southern Democrats who founded the KKK. In fact, a thorough check of the publicly-available legislative record dating back to the mid-1800s demonstrates that the Democrat

Richter´s minder told him that marijuana was legal in North Korea and that he smoked the drug himself. It’s past time for the media to begin asking President Obama tough questions about the IRS conservative targeting scandal. After all he was involved, publicly, from the beginning. Last Friday, the American Center for Law and Justice (where I serve as Chief Counsel) filed its Second Amended Complaint against the United States, the IRS, and a legion of IRS officials. This Complaint, in which we represent 41 organizations in 22 states, presents perhaps the most complete story yet of the IRS conservative targeting scandal. And it is an ugly story indeed. What was sold to the American public as a low-level scandal perpetrated

While the president of the United States pitched his crumbling healthcare program like a late-night infomercial barker, the Army´s chief of staff made a shocking admission about national defense. Gen. Ray Odierno told a Washington conference Monday that the U.S. Army had not conducted any training in the last six months of the fiscal year ending Sept. 30. And, he said, there currently are only two Army brigades rated combat-ready. That´s less than one-third what ‘s regarded as necessary for national security. In addition to the damage done to the GOP by his penchant for right-wing antics, of which the shutdown fiasco was only the latest, Jim DeMint, the president of Heritage Foundation, has ushered in a new era in the once-proud conservative think tank’s history. Under DeMint, Heritage Foundation has been subsumed to the interests of its sister organization, Heritage Action. As a result, Heritage Foundation is suffering a grievous slide in intellectual integrity and influence. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is the latest of many conservatives openly to express concern about the think tank. He told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd this week, “Right

A federal judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss a case that could fatally cripple the Obamacare health insurance law. The Affordable Care Act forbids the federal government from enforcing the law in any state that opted out of setting up its own health care exchange, according to a group of small businesses whose lawsuit got a key hearing Monday in federal court. The Obama administration, according to their lawsuit, has ignored that language in the law, enforcing all of its provisions even in states where the federal government is operating the insurance marketplaces on the error-plagued Healthcare.gov website. The Mark Twain Prize, handed out each year in the Nation´s Capital, is generally a nonpartisan affair meant to toast the funniest people in pop culture, period. This year, both the honoree and a key presenter couldn´t resist the chance to get political during the ceremony. The night belonged to beloved sketch comedy star Carol Burnett, who used the debate over the recently ended government shutdown in her acceptance speech: This is very encouraging. I mean it was a long time in coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington. With any luck,

President Barack Obama didn´t know of problems with the Affordable Care Act´s website -- despite insurance companies´ complaints and the site´s crashing during a test run -- until after its now well-documented abysmal launch, the nation´s health chief told CNN on Tuesday. In an exclusive interview with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, CNN´s Dr. Sanjay Gupta asked when the President first learned about the considerable issues with the Obamacare website. Sebelius responded that it was in "the first couple of days" after the site went live October 1. "But not before that?" Gupta followed up. To which Sebelius replied,

Hard-line conservatives aren’t just sticking it to the national GOP by shutting down the government and bringing the nation to the brink of default — they’re also refusing to pony up to help their party defend the House in 2014. With a little more than a year until the midterm election, many leaders of the shutdown strategy have yet to donate to the National Republican Congressional Committee, records show. At least eight of the debate’s 20 or so most outspoken figures have not given any money to the NRCC, and others have forked over token amounts. Their refusal to contribute

Obama does many things. He prevaricates, manipulates, defrauds, abuses and usurps. But one thing that he does not do is compromise. Any strategy built on forcing Obama to compromise is inherently flawed. He may occasionally throw Republicans a tiny bone to make them feel better about giving in, but only as long as his is the only plate with meat on it. Obama never compromises because he has never really lost. He has been insulated from defeat by his fanaticism, his arrogance and his media… and by Republican incompetence.
