Root cause of Obamacare website
crashes is red tape, not technical glitches

New York Daily News, by Clay Johnson

The history of information technology acquisitions by the government is a bit like the history of helicopters. You spend a lot of money on something and most of the time, it lifts off the ground. But more frequently than you’d like, it crashes, and when it does, it leaves a big fiery mess.HealthCare.gov is but one of those fiery crashes. Whether it was USAJobs.gov, or New York’s CityTime project, governments have a history of expensive crashes. In the case of HealthCare.gov, the root cause isn’t the bugs we see in the software’s code. Instead, it’s the way that government procures

The ´smart´ people in the media have lots of clever little theories about what happened to this web app. Obama awarded the work to a Democrat donor (a firm already fired by the Canadian government for incompetence) in a no bid contract and then let the fools at CMS manage the project. You didn´t need a crystal ball to know how this was going to end.

I think the problem is at the extreme end of "red tape"

"The regulation is 6,500 pages long, and if it isn’t followed, people go to jail."

Also in the news this past week, megabank JP Morgan is setting a price of a fine for misdeeds in two of it´s purchases in 2008. The fine is approx $13Bill. The two companies are Washington Mutual and Bear Stearns. Problem is, it was Washington that begged JPM to buy these two troubled firms to begin with. And now levies a fine on JPM for owning them.

If the problem of "red tape" was bad before obama showed up 5 years ago (and Eric Holder), it is 100 worse now.

Seriously doubt that obama will get any skilled web designers to get near his disaster called obamaCare. Who needs the grief?

It was designed to fail. Obamacare is not the goal. Single payer is. The chaos from the failure presents Obama with a crisis he will not let go to waste.

No reason there can´t be a bunch of diseases afflicting this piece of work. They include but aren´t limited to red tape resulting in faulty procurement and the hiring of people gaming the system rather than skilled software developers, bad programming by the aforementioned gamesters, misperceived marketing imperatives as in requiring everyone to register their life history before being permitted to choose from the healthcare offerings because you can´t let people see the raw price without subsidies or they´ll run away, lousy communications between government agencies who are more interested in protecting their domain than sharing their information and finally politics which drove them to launch a known faulty product before it was ready in an attempt to get it out and embedded and so not able to be cancelled or removed.

The website is a shiny object now being used to divert attention. I´ve maintained that Obama´s horde of foot soldiers are in inner cities across America signing up his followers as we speak. Knowing Obama, he will eventually play his Aces by threatening his faithful with a loss of their benefits. The villains? The Tea Party, i.e. Cruz and company. They MUST turn out in 2014 and join La Raza in demanding what is theirs (so to speak). If not all will be lost.

And the real problem does not reside in the software at all. The perverseness of this system is such that it will attract high maintenance resource consumers while repelling the healthy payers into the system. The cycle of doom will start right from the get go. Train wreck is not the word. It is going to be like watching a fully loaded A380 go down.

This is the Peter Principle Administration from top to bottom. The only job they are experts at is fixing elections. Of course that took years of practice in Chicago.

People, the US Health system is now under control of complete incompetents. This whole system will make Hitler´s death camps look like a trip to the park. Coming soon.. abortion huts on every corner along with millions of hungry homeless people sleeping in the streets.

Probably a bit overstated, but you get the idea.

The plug, of course, must be removed from the last contractor in the presence of the new contractor for maximum effectiveness.

There must be clear consequences for failure.

Totally agree w/ #8. If this website is anything like the Dept of Education´s FAFSA website where students apply for student loans and grants (and even if you don´t want either, the college may require it for a scholarship application), it has serious design problems. It sounds like the purpose is to collect as much personal information as possible (to be used later for campaign data-mining for OFA and the DNC) before you can even get a quote. You can´t get a simple cost estimate for a (traditional) family of one male adult, one female adult, and two kids under 10, none with pre-existing conditions and all healthy, because they want to conceal the real cost. It´s like a rip-off website that you have to give a credit card number (along with the security code) before they will tell you what something costs. If it is like FAFSA, you can´t go forward to the "next page" until you have given satisfactory answers to all the questions. And then Obama´s government /OFA will run a check to see if you have input all the SS#´s correctly, etc. And anyone can tell you, that moving from one government department to another is an almost impossible feat. Then if the ex-spouse has already checked on your kids using their SS#´s, the whole thing kicks out because of their too sensitive/inappropriate fraud detectors, etc. But when a programmer has to code do-loops, iteration boxes, decision trees, and conditions for a 60,000 page law, you´ve got a programming nightmare. It all starts with the stupid law that Nancy Pelosi passed. Then add in Obama´s desire to collect all your personal data, and you have Healthcare.gov . Go to STOP.

I have to agree with #4. Obama wants the single payer health care (the gov´t). Sit back and think about it. We´re all being played like puppets. All the closure signs were ready when the gov´t shut down - has one ever seen the gov´t act so quickly. The republicans fell right into his hands. It had been planned. The same with the website for signing up for obamacare. It was meant to fail yet the lapdog press doesn´t have the guts to look into it.

The Obamacare website is an event of major national significance, like Y2K was. To get ready for Y2K, tens of thousands of analysts and programmers worked for close to two years in thousands of companies to get ready. Obamacare hasn´t even started this process yet. Interesting times are ahead for our nation.

Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,
