About a half million people have taken the first step toward enrolling in Obamacare health coverage, creating applications on the exchanges, administration officials said late Saturday. The “almost half million” figure the officials reported is the most complete national picture of President Barack Obama’s signature domestic legislation yet — but it still leaves a lot unknown or unsaid. The figure is a snapshot of applications — the first step toward getting coverage. The administration isn’t planning to release until next month the number of people who have actually completed the process of choosing and enrolling in a health plan.Extensive “glitches,” as

This wouldn´t make it past a high school English teacher.
When a law if passed based on lies and political bribes, you get what your Congressional representatives voted for. Much of what we were promised has not come true, whether or not the website to join up is working. Vote accordingly next time. Some states, not here in New york, but elsewhere, will have an opportunity to make a difference by voting in individuals that will do the right thing.
The administration isn´t quoting a number of subscribers until next month because they are hoping that the total will be a little less embarrassing. 0.18 percent of the population doesn´t even make a dot on the graph of significance.
FTA: state figures available as of Friday and found that about 192,000 people had applied, and roughly 55,000 had selected a health plan (although not all of them had paid in advance for the plan, so technically enrollment wasn’t completed).
What I´d like to know is how many of the people who have selected and paid for a plan are young and healthy. And how many of those who have selected a plan haven´t paid because they´re now on Medicaid and not actually paying for their new insurance.
You have to breakdown the figures and find out just how many people actually purchased Obama-care policies and how many people are actually are ending up on Medicare and Medicaid to really figure out what is really going on.
What Obama hopes is that 7 million Americans will enroll in Obama-care, and then he intends to supercharge that figure with up to 20 million amnestied illegal aliens and their family members in a few months. If that happens, somebody or some economic group is going to have to fund what will be gigantic subsidy amounts that the government will have to come up with.
They are going to heavily touting the people who have been signed up as eligible for Medicaid. Before Obamacare passed, there were 3 large groups of people who were uninsured. 10 million were illegal aliens and won´t be eligible. 10 million were eligible for Medicaid, but wouldn´t sign up until they actually needed medical care. And 10 million were earning 58,000 a year but didn´t feel that health insurance was worth the money. Then there were uninsured with preexisting conditions. This last group could receive aid either from State high risk pools or from the PCIP (preexisting condition) pool set up by Obamacare. After 3 years only 100,000 people have enrolled in PCIP, but they will consume 5 billion dollars set aside for a projected 625,000 enrollees.
Because of the expanded Medicaid program and to avoid penalties, as many as 10 million could sign up for this part of the program. But it won´t bring in any revenue. If they don´t get 7 million healthy young people to sign up and pay premiums, this program won´t make it through 2014.
Don´t get excited, the only ones who have signed up, to date, are the muslims as they don´t have to pay for insurance or healthcare. This little glitch was written into the little bill (All 2700 pages with 20 thousand pages of rules and regs) originally. That way the MSM didn´t have to report yet another waiver.
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
pending on credit card accounts used by staff in Nigella Lawson and Charles Saatchi´s household was not scrutinised for several years, Saatchi´s accountant has told the fraud trial of the couples´ former assistants, Francesca and Elisabetta Grillo. The statements of cards issued by Coutts bank to the Grillos and three other assistants – together known as "Team Cupcake" – were not checked before the bills were settled by Saatchi on direct debit. The court previously heard claims the bills on the cards that were issued for household spending, rose as high as £100,000 per month. The Grillo sisters are accused of fraudulently
Newspapers, including this one, are among the last places in America that has close to zero tolerance for [expletive deleted].I could give you a hint about what word is between the brackets, but I´d best not for fear of arousing the ire of the editing Comstocks. About twice a year, I quote a profanity from a public figure, using just the first letter of the word and then some bowdlerizing asterisks for the rest. No dice, my editor tells me. This is a family newspaper. There was a time when such standards were the norm at major media institutions in America.
A growing clutch of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle is publicly countering the Obama administration’s portrayal of al Qaeda as an organization on the run, saying that an evolving network of the terrorist group’s affiliates now may pose as grave a threat to the U.S. as its predecessor did a decade ago. While some have outright accused President Obama of pushing a “false narrative” to protect his reputation as the man who got Osama bin Laden, others focus on fears that a new breed of decentralized al Qaeda-style groups may control more safe haven territories in the Middle East
"I will be pleased to have you visit," read the email that landed in my inbox this spring. It was signed, " Bernard Madoff. "That exchange led to a two-hour meeting in May with the most notorious fraudster on Wall Street, during which Mr. Madoff pointed fingers at others and said his decadeslong Ponzi scheme wasn´t really his fault. He was dismissive of regulators and whistleblowers, calling Harry Markopolos —a fraud investigator who warned the Securities and Exchange Commission about Mr. Madoff—an "idiot." The federal prison in Butner, N.C., looks more like a small college campus than a penitentiary.
LONDON — Scores of flights were delayed or canceled at Britain´s busiest airports Saturday because of a technical problem at a main air traffic control center. National Air Traffic Service, which controls the crowded airspace over England, said it was having a problem switching between nighttime and busier daytime operations at its control center in Swanwick, southern England. Spokeswoman Juliet Kennedy said the glitch was preventing staff opening new control positions to deal with busier daytime traffic, meaning the service was struggling to handle the volume of flights. "At the moment we don´t know when we will be able to
Big Brother may be watching you. But Glenn Greenwald is watching Big Brother. That´s not a bad take on how the 46-year-old constitutional-law attorney turned crusading journalist turned thorn in the side of the NSA might describe his mission. At least in part. Greenwald is doing more than just watching. By combing through the tens of thousands of classified NSA documents leaked to him by Edward Snowden -- and publishing in newspapers around the globe report after report on the secretive agency´s mass-spying activities -- he´s got the whole world watching too.
The Maryland official who directly oversaw the rollout of Maryland’s health insurance exchange resigned Friday amid continuing technical problems that have hampered the state’s online enrollment efforts. After an emergency session Friday night, the board of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange accepted the resignation of Rebecca Pearce, its executive director, and thanked her in a statement for working “tirelessly and with tremendous dedication” for more than two years. In recent weeks, the lagging enrollment and online glitches have embarrassed the administration of Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) and become a political liability
Earlier this week, Onyango "Omar" Obama, uncle to Barack, said in a deportation hearing that he stayed with his nephew in Cambridge in the 1980s. The White House had to that point said that the president had never actually met Omar, who was arrested for drunk driving in 2011. Now, two years after the arrest brought denials of any sort of relationship from the White House, the president is admitting that, yes, he briefly lived with his uncle Omar before heading to Harvard Law School in the ´80s. "The president first met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law
Technicians in the Washington area raced up to a month-end deadline set by the Obama administration to make the troubled federal insurance website work for a majority of users, but officials acknowledged they still faced a raft of problems that could take weeks or more to fix. By Saturday evening, technicians completed a major hardware upgrade, adding computing, storage and database capacity to their data center, said one person familiar with the situation. "There was a big install and it worked," the person said. Contractors believe the upgrades will improve the system´s performance and let it handle more visitors, but the person
The once-sleepy town of Williston sits on the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers in the US state of North Dakota. Five years ago, Williston had a population of 12,000 and was slowly dying on its feet – an agricultural hub marked out from the plains only by the grain silos that stand silhouetted against the big North Dakota skies. The fall-out from a brief oil boom in the mid-1980s had left the town with sky-high debts and a main street filled with empty shops and peeling facades. Young people looking for jobs skipped town at the first opportunity. Today, Williston is
The CIA used a secret base at Guantanamo Bay nicknamed ´Penny Lane´ to turn some of al-Qaeda´s most dangerous terrorists into double agents, US officials have admitted.Inmates languishing under Guantanamo Bay´s harsh regime were offered cash rewards, "hotel" style rooms and even pornography if they agreed to help the CIA track down and kill fellow al-Qaeda operatives. Instead of Guantanamo´s spartan cells, they would be transferred to cottages equipped with private kitchens, showers and televisions, as well as their own patio. A handful then signed agreements to work for the CIA, under which they were released and told to hook up once
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
IN 2011, the British historian Stephen Ellis published a paper concluding that Nelson Mandela had been a member of the South African Communist Party — indeed, a member of its governing Central Committee. Although Mandela’s African National Congress and the Communist Party were openly allied against apartheid, Mandela and the A.N.C. have always denied that the hero of South Africa’s liberation was himself a party member. But Ellis, drawing on testimony of former party members and newly available archives, made a convincing case that Mandela joined the party around 1960, several years before he was
