WASHINGTON— President Barack Obama is not an overtly religious man. He and his family rarely attend church, and he almost never elaborates in public about his own relationship to his Christian faith. But away from the public eye, advisers say, the president has carefully nurtured a sense of spirituality that has served as a grounding mechanism during turbulent times, when the obstacles to governing a deeply divided nation seem nearly insurmountable. Every year on Aug. 4, the president´s birthday, Obama convenes a group of pastors by phone to receive their prayers for him for the year to come. During the
Barf alert! Do not open this "news" story if you know what is good for you. Run quick. Go play Angry Birds or Candy Crush. Warning: Material may be disturbing to Americans who love their country and would like to have it back. Besides, it´s BS.
Does he think the pastors will pray him into heaven? He "receives" prayers - not he prays! I don´t personally think he even knows God - Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. If so, we would know it by his actions - God´s fruits would be self-evident.
Obama praises the abortion clinics and then thanks God for them! One day he will find out the difference. God does not bless sin, but he does bless the sinner when he repents!
Food for thought for a President who needs help! Pray for him, that he listens to that inner voice that cries "repentance"!
In a pig’s eye “…his Christian faith.” Obama’s a Muslim. Just ask George Stephanopoulos, who awkwardly tried to unconvincingly convince Obama that Obama´s a Christian. George Stephanopoulos failed miserably.
Any resemblance between Obama and the truth is purely coincidental.
I haven´t forgotten his "My Muslim faith" to George Stephanopoulos, poster #13, nor his "The most beautiful sound in the world is the "morning call to faith." Which he learned as a boy attending a private school as Barry Soetero, the Indonesian son of a Muslim.
To reinforce this, remember when he was asked on the campaign trail, he thought there are 57 (the number of Muslim) states.
#5- you do realize that there is no record of Ronald Reagan ever going to a church service the entire time he was President. The reason he gave when asked why was that too much security would be needed. I´m sure your statement applies to him also, so RR could not be considered a Christian either?
The genuineness of his salvation is between him and the Almighty, but he is portrayed and certainly acts like he considers himself above it all as if he is God.
I´m still waiting for all those lofty predictions he made as a candidate to come to pass.....
I know there´s a God who knows my name, and its NOT BHO, although I´m sure his pals in the business of tampering into our private lives probably has something which he could put his finger on to use against the citizenry to keep them in line
The information provided in this piece, if accurate, indicates that the President relies very much on what others tell him about God and his word, rather than searching the Scriptures to find what God reveals about himself in his word.
All of us need to be like the Bereans and search the Scriptures daily to see whether the things that are told to us about them are so. (Acts 17:11)
I heard this recently. It´s from 2005, but it is as true today as then. It´s entitled "Truth is Fallen in the Streets" taken from Isaiah 59:14,15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t3uPHo5_Sk
You may want to move past the singing and prayer, that´s up to you, but the message about what is happening in America is right on target. Truth is indeed fallen in the streets. The speaker uses comments from Moynihan and relates a story about Bear Bryant that was told by John McCain, but don´t let that throw you off the truth of the message.
Sorry for second post, but I was addressed with a question. #28- it was RONALD REAGAN who said he did not go to church because of security, not Obama. I think that was clear in my first post. Reagan never went to church his entire 8 years as President.
"But away from the public eye, advisers say, the president has carefully nurtured a sense of spirituality that has served as a grounding mechanism during turbulent times, when the obstacles to governing a deeply divided nation seem nearly insurmountable."
If I had a hat on my head, I´d tear it off and throw it on the ground. This hardship is what damn near every president has to go through, which is dealing with the other part in congress. If he´d been more respectful during his first two years, he´d be getting a lot more cooperation now. Heck, if he were more respectful now instead of calling them arsonists, he´d get more cooperation. Nothing like trashing people 24/7 and then going "woe is me." Good grief.
Barack Obama isn´t a Christian. He belongs to a hate cult that openly promotes hatred of white people, capitalism and America. You don´t spend twenty years listening to Jeremiah Wright´s poisonous vitriol without embracing or endorsing those very same ideas.
Christ´s message was never, ever "hate whitey and God DAMN America!"
Pretend all you want that this man is a normal, average, practicing Christian. All available evidence points to the opposite conclusion.
Obama once tried to insert Christ´s words into a political speech but brought up the verse about turning stones into bread. I thought this was absolutely chilling because Satan uttered the words about turning stones into bread. The fact that he could confuse Satan´s words with Christ´s is frightening.
Re #23, Ronald and Nancy Reagan regularly attended the Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles.
I knew their minister, Dr. Donn Moomaw (who gave the invocation at President Reagan´s inauguration) and he told me of their regular attendance at the church when they were in California and after he left office. Until she became too frail to do so, Mrs. Reagan continued to attend after President Reagan´s death.
It´s a good idea to get your facts straight before you start firing.
"Has carefully nurtured a sense of spirituality"?...There have been over 56,733,000 abortions in The United States since the wicked Supreme Court Decision of Roe v Wade in January, 1973. So what did Obama have to say to the assembled mass murderers of Planned Parenthood at their National Conference in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2013?..."Thank you, Planned Parenthood, God bless you."
He was in DC for 8 years as President and never attended church there. Rarely he went to the ranch in CA, but most Sundays was in the White House or at Camp David. He was asked a number of times why he did not attend church while President and always gave the security answer. I know he went to Bel Air Pres when in LA, but was not a churchgoer while President. Those are facts you can look up.
The Obamas make a great point of going to church when it is photo op time. The rest of the time, nada.
What exactly is the point of all this business about Ronald Reagan? Books have been written about his spirituality, dating back to his mother and his childhood.
The only "church history" we have on Obama is Jeremiah Wright´s church, the big predominantly black church in Chicago that his mentors advised him to attend for political credibility and contacts. Is that #23-46´s idea of spirituality?
...what exactly do religious Muslim´s do...when they happen to be the President of the USA...when their infidel Ambassadaor gets raped and murdered.... Did he kneel on his prayer rug...praying for 75 virgin boys?
Such shameless sycophancy fools no one. It is wasted effort - or worse. Anyone prepared to swallow such hokum is already in the bag - but the rest of us are merely antagonized. Propaganda puff pieces like this are red flags waved at bulls that are already enraged.
Articles like this incite a desire to wash oneself after coming into contact with them. There is something unclean and slimy in such toadying.
No sincere Christian can truthfully claim that Obama is a Christian. And not being a Christian, he is a tool of satan. But Obama is not the first non-Christian president. Wm Howard Taft was a Universalist Unitarian.
There are at least a dozen reasons proving Obama is not a Christian and the only people who might think he is Christian, are non-Christians, those who have no clue what Christianity it.
But... the most obvious proofs are his disregard for life. This is seen by his support of unlimited abortion and the legislation he vetoed that would have given doctors and nurses the liberty to treat a child that survived an abortion. He forced healthcare workers to let them die. He even said that he would be willing to have his own grandchildren killed rather than have his daughters saddled with an unwanted pregnancy. That comes from the pits of hell. The second is his philosophy that government should have ultimate power and the final authority over humans, not God. His view of government is nothing more that man trying to be God (like Satan), making people dependant on government. Government cannot steal freedom and liberty from the individual without being ungodly. It cannot set moral standards different than God´s and be right for the people. Third is his disrespect for Family. Family is an institution created by God to provide a structured environment with a father and mother to procreate and raise children. Any other form of family is perverse and ungodly. Add to that Obama´s policies that are destroying the family by rewarding broken homes and unwed parents while punishing functioning homes. Forth is his openly hatred or Christianity claiming Christians are racist bigots, and the cause of hatred between races. Christianity stands for moral standards, social stability and personal responsibility. Obama stands for none of these things. He is a liar, prideful, arrogant, divider, secularist and the only form of "Christianity" he accepts is that of Jeremiah Wright which preached Black Liberation Theology, pitting Blacks against Whites, hoping to produce a "collective salvation". That is not Christian.
Zippy might have some type of faith, but it´s not faith in the God of Hebrew or Christian scripture, which would require for him to worship something outside himself, something holy. If he´s not still Islamic (his childhood religion) he´s certainly an Islamophile, judging by everything he´s done or said. And as I said above, reflecting on this hollow man´s alleged faith is sickening. Who but a lockstep toady would even think it?
Is this the church that meets at the 19th hole? It´s where he spends a lot of his time. I´m of the understanding that God´s name is often mentioned at those places but I don´t think that´s what´s meant by religious or spiritual.
The souther duffer does have a point. Attendance at church does not necessarily indicate faith or obendience or understanding. Just ask Ted Kennedy, the daily Communicant. Or ask Nancy "the Word" Pelosi. Or Big Bible Bill Clinton. I´m not questioning Mr. Obama´s spirituality or faith. We will know them by their deeds, or so I´ve been told.
Your problem gagolfer, besides being a site pest is you not telling the entire story (typical liberal)of Reagan and going to church. You are correct, he did say he didn´t want to interrupt others worship with all of his security. The difference between him and the muslim occupier is that he made this known immediately and didn´t make a big show of searching for the "right church". Further proof liberalism is a mental disease.
Nothing is impossible with God. I think those of us who are Christian should pray for Obama and those around him. He is a child of God whether he believes it or not. He needs Christians to pray for him. I pray that Nancy Pelosi, Kathleen Sevelius, Joe Biden and John Kerry turn away from abortion and back to their Catholic faith.
Before continuing to berate me let me point out that in no way was I comparing the faith of Obama with that of RR. Frankly that is God´s business not mine and I will worry about The Lord and myself and not anyone else´s faith.
I simply was replying to #5 who had posted that to be a Christian one has to regularly attend public religious services and therefore Obama could not be a Christian. I asked since RR did not do so either as President could he be a Christian. I made no judgement that Obama was or was not a Christian or a Muslim or that RR was not a man of faith. Not my business. If I had to answer that question I would say RR was a Christian man of faith and I really have no idea what Obama is (nor does anyone here for that matter). I just gave a fact to one poster and the place goes crazy, obviously not really reading what I said to begin with. I loved RR and voted for him twice, btw, but a fact is a fact.
#62 - you´re a far better man than I to pray for that lot of scum. Moreover, they try to glorify themselves as they fight for the right to murder the most defenseless of all, as well as being wantonly dangerous to the entire inhabitants of the earth. Good thing you pray for them as I wish their demise (I´ll settle for their impotence). And they have no faith - its a charade to garner votes from the ignorant.
Show me your baptismal certificate and I´ll believe you are a Christian.
Franklin Graham asked the president when exactly he had become a Christian and Obama replied that when he moved to Chicago he was advised that he had to join a church if he was going to be part of the black community. That is it. That is how he supposedly became a Christian, but merely attending a titular Christian church does not make you a member of the Body of Christ. When you convert as an adult your public expression of accepting the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ is when you undergo baptism and are formerly welcomed into the Church. So when did Obama ever do that?
Sorry #64, good try but it doesn´t fly. I also do not agree with #5, see Matthew 6:5.
However now you are re-writing history.
If you had made your original reply to #5 and then followed it with what you just posted I might understand. However you attacked RR again in your next post #46, and that is a fact YOU can look up. Man up, you posted it, live with it.
#52, sad to say, there will be many who CONTINUE to be fooled by this bamboozler. The Lo-fos are still among us.
BO ought to read Psalm 139 while he´s trying to get some spirituality. He might gain some understanding and wisdom, ...and respect for life.
But, above all, he ought to review Exodus 20 and observe, beginning with the First Commandment: YHWH speaking, "I am the LORD your God... you shall have no other gods before Me... you shall make no carved images, or images of any kind..." dump those "HOPE" posters for starters.
He´s a Sunni. So is the Muslim Brotherhood. Most (maybe all) the Middle East conflicts are, to some degree, Sunni-Shi´ite conflicts. Not reported and not emphasized in our press, maybe not in any non-Islamic press. I don´t have enough information to verify this, but I suspect that Obama takes the Sunni side in any Sunni-Shi´ite Middle East conflict. I know Morsi is Sunni and Assad associates with a branch of Shi´ite, for example.
“… turbulent times … a deeply divided nation ...” -- Be still, my aching tuchus!
Lederman must live deep in the pockets of these un-named “advisers” he cites – or else he’s simply dumber than dirt. Either way, the AP’s effrontery in publishing this piece of ordure is quite simply breathtaking.
Is there a single sapient being anywhere in our land who doesn’t know that the turbulence of our times is largely of the Current Occupant’s own making, and that the deepness of our national divide owes more to him than to anyone or anything else?
In a less cynical age, little Barry Soetoro would be standing in the well of the court, his parents’ blood on his hands, with his lawyers pleading for mercy for the poor orphaned boy.
It´s interesting that no mention was made of Obama´s "God bless Planned Parenthood" remarks earlier this year.
"As long as we´ve got to fight to make sure women have access to quality, affordable health care, and as long as we´ve got to fight to protect a woman´s right to make her own choices about her own health, I want you to know that you´ve also got a president who´s going to be right there with you, fighting every step of the way," said Obama. "Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you." The Weekly Standard, April 26, 2013
Or his disregard for religious beliefs re the HHS mandates.
The Obama administration said Friday that it will not provide broad exceptions to the contraception mandate in its signature healthcare law.
The Health and Human Services Department rejected calls to let any employer opt out of the mandate based on religious objections to contraception. But the department took new steps to remove religiously affiliated employers from the process of paying for their employees´ contraception coverage. The Hill, February 1, 2013
Or - denying Catholic priests access during the shutdown.
The U.S. military has furloughed as many as 50 Catholic chaplains due to the partial suspension of government services, banning them from celebrating weekend Mass. At least one chaplain was told that if he engaged in any ministry activity, he would be subjected to disciplinary action. Fox News, October 44, 2013
Or - reports of DOD classifying Christians as terrorists.
The Department of Defense classified Catholics and Evangelical Christians as religious extremists similar to Al-Qaeda, according to training materials obtained by the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty. Fox News, August 28, 2013
Sure he nurtures his faith right after he vacuums his prayer rug, puts his soup kettle shaped macramé hat on his pointed head, gets on his knees and then points his tail like a rocket for the moon and bangs his forehead on the ground. It was Zippy himself who tearfully told us the "the most beautiful sound in the world is the muslim call (screaming) to prayer at sundown.
What is this strident push all of a sudden to convince us this muslim pig and his muslim pig family are Christians? Why now?
And then reading on: "Every year on Aug. 4, the president´s birthday, Obama convenes a group of pastors by phone to receive their prayers for him for the year to come leaves me breathless. Almost as breathless as the rest of the article in which Zip includes Maya Angelou among religious leaders like—remember Maya, she became a poetess who jumped to rhyming words when being a whorehouse madam didn´t work. Zippy and Mooch think she´s so good that she wrote a poem—and to her everlasting shame she had the nerve to read it out loud at Zip´s first inauguration. If the word "awful" has degrees, Maya won first place for a piece of trash there isn´t one person in a billion who could tell you what it was all about.
But... the good news is that the liar in chief is nurturing his faith "away from the spotlight." If anyone believes that...
When I was in high school, I joined the ROTC initially because I was attracted to the uniforms. I figured they would provide an opportunity to escape the constant berating by fellow students owing to my outdated clothing. I was fascinated with the guns and became an excellent marksman, winning several marksmanship awards. I also led a drill team, which was very advanced with the art of disassembling and reassembling military rifles in record time. I advanced through the ranks, eventually becoming the city’s ROTC executive officer and was offered a scholarship to West Point. I gained great respect for
SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -Officials at Shaw Air Force Base are trying to determine what to do about a holiday display after a Nativity scene was taken down last week. Air Force spokeswoman Lt. Keavy Rake said Tuesday a Nativity display was set up Friday by a group of volunteers from the base chapel at a small lake on the installation. The site was near where a tree lighting ceremony was scheduled Friday evening. Rake says the Military Religious Freedom Foundation lodged a complaint about the display through the Air Force in Washington. Paul Loebe, spokesman for the foundation, said
Majority Leader Harry Reid says the Senate will not extend current farm law if Congress can´t agree on a new farm bill before adjourning next week. House leaders have reserved space on their agenda this week for extending the current law until the end of January. Lawmakers fear that milk prices might rise sharply if dairy subsidies expire Jan. 1. The House and Senate have passed separate versions, but with widespread differences over crop subsidies and how much to cut food stamps. House Speaker John Boehner said last week that the House should extend the current law while negotiators seek
WASHINGTON — Majority Democrats in the Senate won approval Tuesday for one of President Barack Obama´s key judicial nominees, the first of his picks to win confirmation since they weakened the chamber´s filibuster rules. Senators voted 56-38 to approve Washington lawyer Patricia Millett to join the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the nation´s second most powerful court. Both sides saw Millett´s appointment as pivotal. It will give Democratic-appointed judges a 5-4 majority over those chosen by Republican presidents for that court, which rules on the legality of White House actions and federal agency regulations. Obama praised
In response to Dylan Byers: MSNBC Is Everything the Left Accuses Fox News of Being: The Byers criticism of MSNBC was interesting and significant because it exists at all, but he´s still praising them with faint damn. He goes out of his way to drag Fox down to their level over and over again; he´s willing to concede that MSNBC might be as bad as Fox, when to any objective observer, there is simply no comparison. MSNBC is a gutter-dwelling performance-art interpretation of a shrieking-loon far left website, not a news channel with a high percentage of left-leaning opinion.
Environmental Protection Agency employees received light punishments for “employee integrity” violations and avoided prosecution when crimes allegedly occurred, according to the agency’s inspector general. The IG revealed a list of employee integrity violations that included assault, illegal possession of a weapon, and efforts to solicit improper personal payments from agency contractors, among other violations. Many received light punishments for the offenses, including ethics counseling, short leaves of absence, and informal discussions with supervisors. One employee was sentenced to 18 months of probation for attempting to carry a knife, stashed in one of his shoes, onto a plane. Despite the criminal prosecution, the
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is spending an additional $55 million to “bolster” the healthcare workforce, as Obamacare contributes to shortages in the industry. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced last week that her agency will provide over 270 grants “from diversity to dentistry” to address worker shortages in the healthcare industry. The funding includes $45.4 million to support the nursing workforce, $5.2 million of which will go towards “improving nursing diversity.” The grants also provide $2.4 million for training of doctoral-level psychologists to “address the behavioral health needs of vulnerable and underserved populations,” and $3 million to support
Office Depot said Tuesday it has chosen Boca Raton, Fla. for its new headquarters over Naperville. Office Depot completed its merger with Naperville-based OfficeMax last month, but the pair hadn´t yet announced where the combined company would be based. The companies asked for tax breaks from both states. Illinois lawmakers adjourned last week before making a decision. Last month, the company named Roland Smith, the former head of the U.S. unit of supermarkets operator Delhaize Group, as its new CEO, hoping to tap into his turnaround and integration background. The company said the evaluation of its headquarters selection was based
The most influential think tank in Washington is getting a new address: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Metaphorically speaking, of course. But The Center for American Progress has so many contributors, fellows, and staffers who already work there they may as well make it offical and change the address on their business cards. This is especially true now that the founder and chairman of the board of CAP, John Podesta, is going to work for Obama. New York Times: President Obama, after a rocky year that leaves him at the lowest ebb of his presidency, is bringing into his White House circle the longtime
WASHINGTON- Democratic Representative Mel Watt´s nomination to lead the agency that regulates taxpayer-owned mortgage financiers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac cleared a procedural hurdle in the U.S. Senate, putting it on course for final approval likely later on Tuesday. President Barack Obama nominated Watt in May to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency, but Republicans had blocked a final vote. Last month, however, Senate Democrats changed the rules to allow nominees like Watt to overcome filibusters with a simple majority in the 100-seat chamber. Previously, it took 60 votes.
The generous mystery tipper who has been leaving waiters and waitresses across the country thousands of dollars in "Tips for Jesus" — and stamped with the @tipsforjesus handle — was identified by a New York City waiter as Jack Selby, former PayPal vice president. Aruj Dhawan, a waiter at Bo´s Kitchen, told the New York Post that Selby and two other patrons gave him a $1,000 tip on a $111.05 bill. "As I was about to drop the check off, one of the men said they would ‘make my night.’ They called me over, gave me the check," Dhawan told
General Motors GM -0.22% CEO Dan Akerson and the GM board have selected product chief Mary Barra to succeed him, the company said today, and Akerson is retiring in January. The move will make 33-year GM veteran Barra the first woman to lead a global automaker. Arguably, it will make her the highest-profile female CEO in the world. It also set in motion a cascade of other management changes in the biggest re-set of the automaker’s leadership since the 2009 U.S.-government bailout. But all the moves were internal. Akerson accelerated the timing of his exit by several months because of
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
President Barack Obama is bringing his family of aides and advisors down to South Africa for Nelson Mandela’s mass-media send-off. “For us it’s the President and the First Lady, the Attorney General [Eric Holder], Susan Rice, Valerie Jarrett,” Ben Rhodes, the White House’ deputy national security advisor for strategic communications, told reporters during an impromptu press conference on Air Force One. Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry are staying behind, but former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was on board Air Force One as well. The memorial is expected to be attended by hundreds of world
Say goodbye to the 60-watt incandescent bulb. This year manufacturers started phasing out 100w and 75w bulbs. On January 1 it will become illegal to import or manufacture traditional 60w and 40w bulbs too. Time to stock up? Not so fast. First, check out Cree’s energy-sipping new 75-watt replacement bulb. I used to be outraged over the federal government’s draconian moves to outlaw traditional lightbulbs. For 100 years we’ve lived and thrived under the warm glow of incandescent lightbulbs. Aside from the fact that 90% of the electricity used by the bulbs is radiated in the form of heat rather than
