For over a year it has been common knowledge within the Obama administration that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) could not launch its network of health exchanges for the Affordable Care Act in a minimally acceptable way. That knowledge did not stop the HHS publicity machine from constantly assuring the American public that its computer systems would be ready for the first enrollment period.(Snip) HHS also blundered when it built its computer system in violation of the Privacy Act. In short, if you enroll in a health plan through an exchange, family members and recent ex-spouses can
Comments: Did we know that just anyone could go into our plan and change it without permission?
Liberals have a luxury people in the private sector don´t have and couldn´t afford and that´s being judged on intentions, not results. A sane person would demand accountibility for a $600 million expenditure but not in world liberal. I mean hey they´re trying to get the site up and glitches happen to everybody, even Google.
There´s a central reason for this website not working and we´ll never find out what it is but you can be sure it was a forseeable problem by a lot of people and they charged ahead anyway.
I couldn´t halp bu be amused when the article mentioned that the Massachusetts system, which had been working well for years, became inoperable when it was required to integrate with the federal system.
It´s just mind-boggling. The website developers responsible for this got fired by Canada last year because they couldn´t meet deadlines after three years of effort. Doesn´t anyone in the government check references anymore, or was it bound to be better than ours because, you know, Canadian nationalized medicine.
Hillary has shown up in our local Ct. paper as THE speaker to be at some event, and she is pictured with a new haircut and a Christian cross on a chain round her neck, smaller than Madonna´s but......... I am ALMOST tempted to attend and ask about Benghazi, but am sure, since partisans are sponsoring her, that I would be booed and ushered from the room. But the question remains: how can a secretary of state with such a horrendous record (mostly most air miles) culminating in unnecessary deaths (while she went off immediately to a wine tasting in the West) even be CONSIDERED for the Presidency. Guess we will have to find some totally unqualified but half Black candidate to run against her?
My point being that Hillary is not only FOR Obamacare, but recall that HERS was Hillarycare: same idea and I am SURE same disaster. And here we have this train wreck and she is STILL considered the front runner, cross on chest, for the Presidency.
I´ve been playing, "Where´s Hillary?" forever. Whenever things get tough, she predictably goes into hiding and the press gives her a pass. But in doing so, she gives away her vulnerabilities and the GOP is too stoooopid to call her or the collusive media on it. Here she is, the supposed shoe-in for Prez, completely out of sight during the shutdown, lying low during the negotiations, tucked away during the debt ceiling debate, underground during the snafu-filled healthscare rollout. Yes, #7...GO! Be a SILENT protester: whip out a small handmade sign that uses liberal words against her: "Hillary SHAME: Benghazi" and then be prepared to respond, "I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you´re not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." But try not to screech.
What if the purpose was to bring chaos and destruction to American society as a means of escorting in a new socialist order to save the day? What if a seriously deranged madman without a past was given the keys to the government by a foolish electorate, and he and his evil cabal then set about to drive it off a cliff, while sensible sat by in stunned disbelief?
As a practical matter, these navigators are unaccountable, and yet they will be asking people for Social Security numbers and other sensitive information. It will not take long for navigators to become predators,...
Warning - DO NOT GIVE your Social Security number out to anyone right now regarding healthcare, even if they appear to be legit.
I´m not sure that this helps the PIAPS. After all, this totally incompetent administration picked her as Secretary of State and Frequent Flier Miles. You can be sure that she´s grooming her flying monkeys, but by 2016 America will be exhausted by the dims´ failures and ready for new approaches. Like . . . the use of basic arithmetic and the lesson that we should stand by our allies and not fall at the feet of our foes. Or . . . use lying as an ongoing strategy. Or . . . leaving our embassy personnel unprotected. Or . . . well, you get the point.
Hillary doesn´t know it yet but Elizabeth Warren in going to be the communist matron the left chooses in 2016. The Department of Heath and blah blah blah never intended this boondoggle to work and the big price tag was for nothing except to divide among it´s cronies and tax cheats. Paying money for nothing is the communist left´s scam and nothing more. The left knows it could have had this up and running by a computer nerd from Bet Buy´s Geek Squad but wanted the money for their pockets not operating computers.
There should be no surprise that sometime in 2015 some giant CRISIS arises in America and that Lord 0 decrees that this crisis is so terrible that the Constitution must be held in abeyance and that until a solution is found there will be no elections for anything in the Entire U. S for anything. And he´s off to play golf at a wine tasting party.
Huhhh, wow and to think if the Weekly Standard had used its resources in 2008 to expose Obama and his staff as the Marxists that they are instead of actively destroying the lives of conservatives who tried to expose him, you may not even have had to write this article. Gosh, go figure.
Why didn´t they just give anyone who couldn´t afford insurance a million dollars?
It would have been more efficient, successful, effective and much cheaper. The uninsured population of the U.S. is less than 634 million, and that only covers the initial roll out of the web site. The ongoing costs of IRS enforcement, ´navigators´, and bureaucrats have not even been considered.
Not to mention the limiting effect it would have on the Federal Government, specifically, the IRS. The freeing effect on the economy and our Republic would be self evident.
Ding, ding ding! #6, nails it. Obama needs the chaos the collapse of Obamacare brings in order to offer single payer which the masses will then gladly accept. If someone came up with real solutions to make Obamacare work, (which will never happen because it is inherently a failed system) Obama would reject those solutions. He needs the system to collapse. Lenin said government health care is the keystone to implementing communism. Let that sink in.
Devan 14 SAID IT ALL (cut it out, save it, send it to family and friends)... We´ll just add a few points. It’s all about Stalinist Soviet Communist Terror. Controlling the lives of the peasants, obey or die. No less. An administration and Congress, packed full of stealth, secretive Marxist Communist totalitarians controlling every possible aspect of our lives, hammering us into slave submission. Sound a little heavy? The propaganda machine in going full blast, the Diane Sawyers TV actors protecting us from the truth of the dictators and Congress crimes is insanity run amok. Bumper sticker of the decade “I’M EXEMPT from communism”.
Right on #7--Notice Collin Powell is now being smuggled into place.Gee will he suddenly a reborn democrat Or the GOP attempt at electing their own black(well sort of anyway )president? The substitute will probably be none other than the recovered hero of Vietnam John kerry You know he has already replaced Hillary.
President Barack Obama’s expected 10-minute speech at Nelson Mandela’s memorial will cost taxpayers at least $500,000 per minute. That’s not counting any cakes and coffee he and his inner circle consume aboard Air Force One during the 18,000-mile round trip to Johannesburg, via Dakar, in Senegal. The 28-hour two-way flight will cost $5 million because the four-engined Boeing 747 costs roughly $180,000 an hour to operate, according to a May 2012 report by the Congressional Research Service. The cost includes jet fuel and subsequent maintenance of the aircraft’s engines, electronics and hotel-class facilities. Obama has been accompanied by the First Lady, Attorney General Eric
Last week the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing to discuss the way President Obama has overstepped his authority in enforcing—and not enforcing—the law with respect to ObamaCare and other topics. Though, as National Review noted in a report on the event, the members initially shied away from the “I” word, some eventually warmed to the notion that impeachment was an appropriate response to his decisions. That willingness to tiptoe up to a discussion about impeachment was celebrated by liberals like the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank who saw the hearing as a partisan waste of time as well as an
At the very last minute, Representative Steve Stockman filed today to run challenge Republican senator John Cornyn of Texas in the 2014 elections. Stockman, a darling of the grassroots with a penchant for controversial Twitter statements and headline-grabbing comments, is a very, very long shot.(Snip)Because Stockman filed so late, there aren’t any especially prominent East Texas Republicans running to fill his congressional seat, in southeast Texas’s 36th congressional district. As of 3:56 p.m., only Phil Fitzgerald, a former judge, and John Amdur (the address listed is a Houston P.O. box) have also filed to run for his seat. The surprising
Watching the twists and turns of American foreign policy while reading Christopher Clark’s The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 is an unnerving experience. Clark’s history, unlike many on the outbreak of World War I, starts not with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in June 1914, but a dozen or so years earlier. He examines the muddled internal politics behind the foreign policies of major and minor powers — and how often they were incomprehensible to each other. He also shows how different powers formed shifting and sometimes unlikely alliances, with fateful consequences. Britain ended her
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
Dan Rather, whose long tenure at CBS came to an unceremonious end in 2006 shortly after his own 60 Minutes report about then-president George W. Bush´s military service was retracted, decided to weigh in on the show´s current accuracy issues. There´s no love lost between Rather and CBS these days. After Rather was basically made to "retire" from the network a year after he´d lost his evening anchor spot, he sued CBS for $70 million (the case was dismissed). CBS did not include Rather in its JFK assassination 50th anniversary coverage last month, even though he worked for the network in
A question: Are Texas and all its agencies and local governments breaking the law? The answer is that they probably are, according to the Obama administration and its Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. But the Texas attorney general, Greg Abbott, isn’t waiting for the EEOC to investigate and bring charges. Last month, in a preemptive strike, he sued the commission. The case is Texas v. EEOC. The EEOC enforces Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in employment on grounds of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Under the law as amended by Congress, the
In the last few days Barack Obama has attempted to change the subject of public discourse from healthcare to income inequality, which he has dubbed “the defining challenge of our time.” Now he tells us! Since POTUS hasn’t paid much attention to this problem for the first five plus years of his administration, even with African-American unemployment through the roof and the middle class disappearing from American economic life, and with Rand Paul (of all people) the only one to come up with a concrete suggestion of how to elevate people out of poverty, as he has recently with Detroit, this should
T he good news for Congress is that if both houses pass a budget deal by Friday, they get to go home for Christmas break with no high-stakes fiscal grudge match awaiting them when they get back. And the prospects for passing a budget deal being hammered out by Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), maybe even without the histrionics of recent years, seem to be pretty good. (Snip)Democrats will probably also have to swallow an increase in the amount that federal employees have to contribute to their pensions — a provision especially anathema to Maryland´s powerful
Three years after President Barack Obama admitted that his party took a “shellacking” in the midterm elections, Republicans are setting their sights on another political wave in 2014. It’s a new battle, but the GOP is using the same weapon: public skepticism over Obamacare. In 2010, Republicans rode a wave of frustration over the economy and health-care overhaul, recapturing control of the House of Representatives. This time around, they’re focused on keeping that majority and looking toward gains in the Senate – and they’ll rely on the bungled HealthCare.gov rollout to fuel voter support. As the hobbled website becomes more functional, the
Joshua Strange will never forget the girl he met in May 2011. Both were underclassmen at Alabama´s Auburn University when a common acquaintance introduced them. "We instantly became attached at the hip and did everything together," she recalled six months later. "I rather quickly moved into his place. . . . Everything was great until pretty much June 29." That night, an intimate encounter in Mr. Strange´s bed went wrong. She called police, who detained him for questioning. She said she had awakened to find him forcing himself on her; he said the sexual activity was consensual and initiated by
Sen. Ted Cruz isn’t on the ballot next year, but as candidates meet Monday’s filing deadline for Republican primaries, he appears ever-present. Cruz’s tea party-fueled, come-from-behind trouncing of David Dewhurst in the Senate race last year has provided him a gravitational pull that is moving GOP candidates further right and producing scores of would-be first-time officeholders. “You’ve got two things happening,” said Republican political consultant Bill Miller. One of them is the “Cruz phenomenon, and he is the phenom at this moment,” he said. “The other is that conservatives believe that if they’re going to succeed — with the Democratic administration in Washington
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
The U.S. isn´t called "America the Beautiful" for nothing. Each year, millions of tourists come from home and abroad to see the country´s majestic landscape and iconic sites, from the Grand Canyon to the Statue of Liberty. But there are also cool, quirky attractions, like Vermont´s Ben & Jerry´s Factory and Tennessee´s Graceland, the former home of Rock and Roll King Elvis Presley. From California to New York and everywhere in between, the country is chock-full of incredible attractions that keep luring in visitors. Here are the best tourist attractions in every state.
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a last minute decision not to participate in a memorial service for the late South African President Nelson Mandela, despite having notified the South African government that he would attend the event. The decision was made in light of the high transportation costs resulting from the short notice of the trip and the security required for the prime minister in Johannesburg. The Prime Minister’s Office found that the trip would have cost roughly 7 million shekels ($2.4 million) – 2.8 million shekels for chartering a private El Al plane and a further 3.2 million shekels for
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
President Obama will make remarks on Nelson Mandela´s legacy during a memorial service Tuesday for the late South African freedom fighter, officials said Monday. "We do expect President Obama to speak as part of the program," said Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser for strategic communications. The president and first lady Michelle Obama departed Monday for Johannesburg, where a Mandela memorial service will be held in a soccer stadium. Obama, who will also spend time with the Mandela family, is not scheduled to hold any bilateral meetings with foreign leaders while in South Africa, Rhodes said. Rhodes also said the
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
