Computer Upgrade Blamed
For Nationwide EBT System
Shutdown On Saturday

CBS Boston, by Staff

Original Article

Posted By:BuckeyeRon, 10/12/2013 4:19:15 PM

Boston – A possible glitch in a computer system upgrade was causing major problems nationwide with the Electronic Benefits Transfer System on Saturday, as a countless number of shoppers found themselves stranded at the register. Reports from around the country began pouring in around 9 a.m. on Saturday that customers’ EBT cards were not working in stores. The glitch, however, did not appear to be part of the government shutdown. At 2 p.m., an EBT customer service representative told CBS Boston that the system was currently down for a computer system upgrade. The representative said the glitch is affecting people

Comments:
Reading earlier stories about the abuse of these cards would lead one to believe these were state issued cards and not some national system...

Befuddled...for me this is right up there with never having heard about the free Obamaphones until the election controversy in 2012...

Why the illogical stink over voter ID? EBT cards and Obamacare enrollments are at the state level and up-streamed to the national-- Obamaphones, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, require enrollment

Once again, as a tech support [hardware] person, NO company would do an upgrade on any system during PEAK user hours. The weekends have be be the highest level on sales that use electronic banking. It would be late in the night and company would both prepare in advance and pay for this service.

At the least, stupid move on timing, or more [conspiracy theories] 0bama mischief to keep peasants uneasy in a way that effects most.

#12, funny you say that...a few weeks ago, I was in line at the local supermarket. A VERY LARGE Woman of Color was in front of me and, according to the cashier, her EBT card did not have enough balance to cover the bill. She proceeded to open her wallet and peeled off a few 20´s out of the thick wad of big bills. As I followed her out to the parking lot, I saw her get into a brand new Cadillac Escalade....parked in a handicapped parking space. Trust me, the only thing handicapped about her was the fact that she weighed more than my car. Ain´t America Grand?

I would like to think the following scenario possible....

A couple of patriots/sane citizens/John Galts somehow connected "with a guy." They yakked over a beer, maybe. "The guy" suggested it was "possible" to shut down the [pre-deleted] loot-the-working-citizen bureaucracy [AKA EBT]. He was "merely musing," of course. "Really? You sure? Interesting," mused the other guys back.

"Of course, it´d be really interesting to see it proved. Heck, they guy who could do that might even ´find´ a paper bag of small, used bills one day, maybe, oh, right after creating a real havoc-making crash once the shutdown had been proved possible. Just entertaining a flight of fancy here, y´know?"

"Hmmm. Never crossed my mind," said "the guy." "Interesting, though. Have a nice day, guys."

"You, too."

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: I´ve gotta tell, another little thing about Nelson Mandela. Do you realize in a couple of ways, maybe even more than a couple, Nelson Mandela has more in common or had more in common with Clarence Thomas than he does with Barack Obama? For example, Nelson Mandela (even prior to becoming president, but certainly after he became president of South Africa) insisted on compliance with his country´s constitution. He insisted on it. Obama looks at the US Constitution as an obstacle and makes end runs around it every day, practically. In that sense... These are the kind of

We had fun with Mandela when he was in New York, when he came to New York and went to Yankees Stadium. The online insurance marketplace relays information about new customers in ´834´ transaction forms to the private insurance companies that provide the health plans. HealthCare.gov serves people in 36 states, while 14 states are running their own websites. "We believe nine of 10 transactions are being successfully transmitted," the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, spokeswoman Julie Bataille said at a news briefing.

To fully appreciate what former South African president Nelson Mandela was able to accomplish, it is necessary to hearken back to the South Africa he found when he emerged from prison in 1990, and what the country was like in those critical four years between his release and his election to the presidency in 1994. Put simply, South Africa was a violent, dangerous and heavily-armed place teetering precariously on the edge of an all-out race war. And in the early 1990s, it was entirely unclear which way the country would go. On one side, embittered white rejectionists were refusing to

Nelson Mandela was the most famous black man in history. He transcended race barriers to become an exemplar of human generosity of spirit. His towering personality made possible the peaceful transfer of power in South Africa from white minority to black majority rule. If he was less effective as president of his country than he had been as the symbol of resistance to apartheid, he demonstrated statesmanship unmatched in Africa. He inspired love as much as respect, and became regarded by hundreds of millions of people as a secular saint. More was asked of him, and sometimes claimed for him,

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)

Funny question in the headline, yes? But since President Obama worries more about the threat of terrorists´ improvised nuclear device going off in a major American city than anything Russia can throw at us, I was wondering if the government had deigned to share with us citizens any tips for, you know, surviving something their own intelligence points to as the likeliest unlikely Black Swan event. Well, no. And yes. No — very few people in Washington, D.C., who work for the government have any idea what they would do if a 10-kiloton nuclear device exploded at the intersection of 16th and K

President Obama pulled a surprise move Monday at the White House’s Easter Prayer Breakfast when he selected Gene Robinson to lead the closing prayer. Robinson is famously known as the first openly gay Episcopal bishop. Talking Points Memo’s Tom Kludt spotted the following tweet from Robinson, who was in attendance: (Tweet) Robinson, 66, became diocesan bishop of New Hampshire in March 2004. He retired in January 2013 and is currently a senior fellow at the progressive
