Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney intends to buy a $9million Park City, Utah ski chalet to complement his family homes in California, Boston, and New Hampshire. The 8,730 foot vacation mansion is in the ski destination´s Deer Valley resort and, while it doesn´t have a $55,000 car elevator like Romney´s La Jolla home, the chalet does rest right on the slope and may be skied into and out of. The six bedroom home´s most noticeable features is its prevalence of wood. The lodge-like home features wooden floors, walls, and furniture that brokers call Utah rustic. The home was once featured
Before the hammering on the Romneys begins, I want to say thank you, Governor, for offering your services and also to say I don´t care how elaborate their Utah home is. It is their money and it was honestly acquired. I wish nothing but good things for the Romney family.
Why is Mitt Romney´s wealth and expenditures still a national focus? If he wasn´t satisfied that $250 mil is enough to buy his needs and wants, he could have had $11 bil in the Cayn=mans along with obMao and Kerry´s cash funds. Condemn all such expenditures or give them all a pass IMO.
And who cares anyway as in Thou shalt not covet. (Main reason not to is it makes a person less God-friendly and filled with gratitude for own piece of the pie).
I wonder, if Romney were our President, would we be in the shutdown and have the looming debt ceiling crisis. And would he be refusing to negotiate with the Dems? Makes me sad to think of the what-ifs.
This is Romney´s money; he can spend HIS money as he sees fit. The difference between the Romney´s and the 0bama´s is that the 0bama´s spend the taxpayer money. A million dollar golf outing for 0bama with Tiger Woods, a Hundred Million Dollars for the 0bamas and their friends to go to Africa. 0bama has a 64 car motorcade which includes seven limousines which he must have everywhere he travels, and it is all funded by the taxpayer. Let´s just get things into perspective.

Wood is nice, but there is a limit! Gov. Romney nice home. Roomy. Sorry it couldn´t have worked out a bit differently last year. The country would have been better off IMHO. Good days ahead and if you´ve any extra cash, you might want to hide it before the feds come to confiscate. Congrats on your new grandson.
The car elevator in LaJolla made a lot of sense and he could afford it. Those who know the building site know what I´m talking about.
He is welcome to spend the money he has earned on anything he wishes. It is always something that benefits his wife and extended family.
The snarky Mail writer is salivating over the house´s being situated so that one can ski right in. This is not at all unusual in ski resorts in Colorado and Utah where condos and private homes are situated along the ski runs so that one can access the runs without using a motor vehicle. When we used to ski Snowmass at Christmas we made a point of renting a run-side condo.
Little Joshua should go and write another report on Miley Cyrus or Madonna´s rape...
And, #6, add to that the fact that unlike Al Gore, he´s not haranguing the rest of us to live in studio apartments and get around by foot or bicycle while he himself owns a 40,000 sq. foot house in Tennessee and a 10,000 sq. foot condo in D.C. while getting around on private jets and a fleet of SUVs.
I didn´t not pay for that chalet out of my taxes. He is not flying there via a conveyance my taxes pay for.
If I click on this link and look at it, it will be because I wish to see pictures of a gorgeous chalet in a gorgeous state. Period.
I do judge people like Soros and Buffet who use their wealth to buy legislation and influence politics in ways that clearly benefit them individually. I haven´t seen that with Romney so far, although I don´t love the man, I don´t care how wealthy his is.
did you know that some vets were arrested in protest to the memorials in DC being shut down....oh and 4 men were killed in Benazi, and we have not had any answers as to why.oh and the MSM has yet to find a legit birth certificate for our imperial leader..but the MSM, being right on top of the news tells us Mitt Romney had a chalet built..and are upset about an elevator.
I love the fact that they such a wonderful and large family and that enjoy so many wholesome activities. The fact that they can afford to have homes to share the beauty of this country makes me happy. They took so much abuse during the campaign that is nice to see them getting on with life.
Because they are fair, the media will show an equal interest in the homes of George Soros, Warren Buffett, John Kerry, Al Gore, John Edwards, Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Opra Winfrey, Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford...
As others have said, it´s Romney´s money and he can do whatever he wants with it. In addition to that, he has also provided jobs for the many people who have worked on his houses. I wish more people had his drive and initiative than the slugs who only have their hands out for their government freebies.
The House on Thursday approved a two-year budget deal that turns off $63 billion in sequester spending cuts, handing a major victory to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio.). Large majorities in both parties backed the bill in a 332-94 vote. Only 62 Republicans defected despite harsh criticism of the deal by conservative groups that said it did too little to cut spending. Heritage Action, the Club for Growth and other groups said they would negatively score votes in favor of the legislation, but those threats failed to create a stampede against the bill. Instead, members rallied around Boehner, who had strongly pushed
TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Country Music Hall of Fame member and country music legend Ray Price, 87, plans to leave East Texas Medical Center in Tyler on Thursday to go to his home in Mount Pleasant where he will be provided with hospice care. Price, who is best known for his country classics, including Release Me, Crazy Arms and For the Good Times, has been battling pancreatic cancer since 2011. Since then, the disease has spread to his liver, intestines and lungs, even with aggressive treatment. Price and his wife, Janie, who have been married for 45 years, made the
HOUSTON - "Affluenza," the term used by a psychologist to argue that a North Texas teenager from a wealthy family should not be sent to prison for killing four pedestrians while driving drunk, is not a recognized diagnosis and should not be used to justify bad behavior, psychologists said Thursday. The term was popularized in the late 1990s by Jessie O´Neill, the granddaughter of a past president of General Motors, when she wrote the book "The Golden Ghetto: The Psychology of Affluence." It has since been used to describe a condition in which children — generally from richer families —
WASHINGTON — The House moved toward passage of a bipartisan budget accord on Thursday evening that is intended as a truce in the spending battles that have paralyzed Congress for nearly three years, as leaders in both parties sought to marginalize hard-line conservatives opposed to any compromise. With bipartisan support in hand, Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio declared open warfare on the outside conservative groups that have tried to scuttle the budget deal. For the second day in a row, he accused groups like Club for Growth, Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity of reflexively opposing a reasonable plan
WASHINGTON – The Obama administration moved Thursday to help tens of thousands of sick Americans who have struggled to enroll in health coverage for next year because of problems with the rollout of new insurance marketplaces created by the president’s health law. The Department of Health and Human Services announced that patients who have been enrolled in special insurance plans for consumers denied coverage elsewhere would be able to stay on those plans until the end of January. Nearly 86,000 people are currently in such plans. These state-based plans – known as Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plans – were created by
Wall Street´s third down day in a row pushed stocks to their lowest levels in a month as investors worried that the end may be nearing for the Federal Reserve´s support for the economy. The Fed´s stimulus efforts have been a key factor in the bull market that has pushed the Standard & Poor´s 500 index 25 higher percent this year. Investors know it will end sooner or later. But the timing, and the fallout, are uncertain. Until this month, stocks had risen for eight weeks straight. But stocks posted their biggest declines in five weeks on Wednesday, and dropped
Approximately 800 school children waving American flags greeted the Wreaths Across America convoy at their school on Wednesday in Middletown, N.J., for a wreath laying ceremony and tribute honoring World War II veterans who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. The WAA caravan included over 10 trailer trucks filled with wreaths. The group is laying wreaths to honor and remember the country’s veterans during its weeklong journey, which began in Maine on Dec. 7. Its final stop will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Dec. 14, where at least 100,000 wreaths will be laid on the graves of veterans.
(Video) Speaker John Boehner´s (R-Ohio) outburst Thursday at outside conservative groups is going viral on the Internet. Boehner voiced incredulity Thursday that the same groups that pushed Republicans to shut down the government later said they knew the strategy wouldn´t succeed in defunding ObamaCare. “Are you kidding me?!” Boehner exclaimed at the GOP´s press conference at the Capitol. It’s the second day in a row Boehner has criticized the groups. People began tweeting that Boehner’s outburst would make a good Gif.
"The Price Is Right" host Bob Barker is endorsing lobbyist David Jolly, one of two Republicans vying for deceased Rep. Bill Young´s (R-Fla.) seat. Barker makes the endorsement in a new campaign ad that will run during a special "The Price Is Right" episode on Thursday. The ad could help Jolly win over perhaps the key demographic in the GOP primary race: seniors. According to National Journal´s Almanac of American Politics, more than a fifth of Young´s district is over 64 — the target demographic for "The Price Is Right." The ad is set to run Thursday as Barker makes a
Paul Ryan wants everyone in D.C. to remember the Rolling Stones. “There’s this older British guy who says ‘you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need,” he said on Thursday’s Morning Joe with a smile. Ryan is fighting for the budget he negotiated with Washington’s Sen. Patty Murray (D), but not everyone is happy. Major tea party-allied groups came out in advance of the deal to condemn it. Tea party darlings Sens. Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, all expressed disappointment in the deal, as well
On Tuesday, Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., revealed their budget plan to the world. I would say it was immediately met with complaints, but those complaints started before it was introduced. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But are there other plans? No. Outside groups called for opposing it before they’d read it, Members of Congress said they’d vote against it before they knew what was in it. I’d like to take these people with me to buy lottery tickets since they seem to have some form of clairvoyance. I get the anger of conservatives, I’m right
Washington- American Airlines kicked off its freshly minted status as the world´s largest carrier Thursday with an aggressive order for $3.9 billion worth of regional jets from Brazil´s Embraer and Canada´s Bombardier. Three days after completing its merger with US Airways, the new American said it had inked deals to buy 30 CJR900 NextGen aircraft from Bombardier, and 60 Embraer E175s. Bombardier said its deal was worth $1.42 billion, while Embraer put a $2.5 billion value on its order. American also has options to buy an additional 40 CJR900s and 90 E175s. American said the 76-seat regional jets ordered will
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
If you go down on the ice today you´re sure of a big surprise - a rare glimpse of 20 polar bears gorging on a bloody midnight feast. These photographs show a rare cluster of males, females and cubs all dining out on the remains of a whale carcass. They spent a night and a day stripping every last morsel from the mammoth sea creature. Usually Polar bears are solitary and would never tolerate being so close to each other. But with food in plentiful supply and bellies dragging on the floor they seem too lethargic to fight.Wildlife photographer Michal
THE Internet has been abuzz over the spectacle of President Obama and the prime ministers of Britain and Denmark snapping a photo of themselves — a “selfie,” to use the mot du jour — with a smartphone at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela in South Africa on Tuesday. Leaving aside whether it was appropriate, the moment captured the democratization of image making that is a hallmark of our gadget-filled, technologically rich era. Manifestly undemocratic, in contrast, is the way Mr. Obama’s administration — in hypocritical defiance of the principles of openness and transparency he campaigned on — has systematically tried
